Just got Annihilated by a Fiesta ST?!

Featured Replies

I hear from my Fiesta ST owning pal, that one or two have cosworth power these days, could it have been one of these? There is no way on eart a ST Fez would pass you in the described way if it was standard.

As for the ST being ****e - I wouldnt go that far, but its not the car it could/should be.

Suspension is terrible. Makes it agile at low speed, but horrible on distance work, and pretty unsettled at speed. The engine also sounds very strained and rough at higher rpm's. Shame, as its a nice looking car, and it should be better than it is.

any ideas what the hell was going on with that ST?

Jesus Christ! Cut out all the crap. Basically, the Fiesta was faster than your Fabia.

Deal with it!

;) Well said.

Lads he sounds like he had a Supercharger.........hence the easy pulling off at hight speed loads of Torke just like ur PD 130's.......iv had a Run with a Coper S in my Octy RS(its not standerd btw) and it killed me on it mid rang (once we got up the Revs in 5th i reeled him in)...so it sounds like ur Chap in his ST has a blower on it there no spool up time its just Boost......and ur gone ,from the way u Explaned his shooting of thats what it sounds like!

Just thought i put my lot in! ;-P

I think we have establiished that - thanks for your input. We are intersted in How. If I an M3 had done this there would be no thread.

Just had a thought actually.....the ST's 2.0 Duratec....is it not the same engine as used in the MKI Focus ST 170, just wound down a bit? That would explain the reason behind a simple map giving so much extra grunt.

nope. the fiesta st has a duratec engine

:)

considering what are becoming the almost standard upgrades; remap, intake, springs, dampers, brakes, clutch, exhaust...could the same not be said about the fabia vrs? good, but should have been better

was thinking of getting a vrs having doubts now if a chaved up ford can **** all over them.

A "real" vRS wouldn't have a problem :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Irrellavant, but perfectly true  Most things can be improved.

Fabia is a warm shopping car, the Fiesta is "supposed" to be a hot hatch. My mates leaves me standing at lower speeds in the handling stakes, no question. And he enjoys driving it. Thats all that matters really, with it being his car. Ive tried following him in both the Octavia and the Fabia, and around streets, at legal speeds, I cant get near him. On longer twisties or straights, he quickly falls behind.

Standard vs standard though, the Fiesta would still leave the Fabia in any circumstances, just not as quickly as described by the OP.

Right to add my 2pennies, just so you all know im into the ford scene big time but bought my vrs as it suited wat i needed better then any ford.

The fez st has been tuned N/A with a 2.3 up to 240bhp proven! there is only 2 cars in this state one is blue and the other red.

Many of the 2.0 st hav 190-200bhp from cams, zorst and all the norms.

As of the moment nobody has managed a turbo st as there aint room in the bay with the 2.0 engine.

Pulling off duel carridgeway onto motorway - was right on my tail from 30 to 1xx mph, and then blitzed past! Now, my car isn't too slow, and its RRed at over 300 ft torque, as i understood it those Sts only have 148 bhp and about 140 ft torque? and the midrange is normally my strongpoint!? any ideas what the hell was going on with that ST?

I think, in summary, the Ford was modded in some way.

However as it was modded I'm sure he would have been even more annoyed than you as his modded Fiesta didnt pull past a lowly Skoda Fabia as fast as he thought he would approaching a motorway...

He was probably having to tell his mate that he missed a gear change or the air was too muggy or the road surface was poor so therefore his modded bestie wasn't performing at top whack

That is the crunch - look at the Fiesta ST and it looks sporty. Look at a Fabia and it doesnt (so much). So when you take on modertaley fast cars (as in a Fiesta ST, Mini Cooper, Ibiza etc) and dont embarrass yourself they must be thinking my car is not as fast as I thought...

Yeah I'm sure they lose sleep over it ;)

eh? "vRS" is meant to be the sportiest of sporty in Skoda terms, whereas "ST" is only warm

how old is his ST? they've "updated" the rear(?) suspension to make it better at higher speeds

The ST does look good. It was blue with white stripes. The lettering on the back was the only thing out of norm, the red 'ST' had been moved from the right of the boot to the middle of the fiesta - fieSTa. looked good. I'd swap cars with them after seeing what it could do.

Another negative comment?

Never...

Thanks Snoop.

Negative? I prefer the term realistic. Maybe when you "take on" faster cars you think that it bugs them, that you can keep up. Maybe you're a far superior driver to them and you could keep up with them if you were in a milkfloat?

Either way, I suspect they're about as bothered as people on here are if a ch@vvy beat-up shed keeps up with them..... ;)

Chris

Been reading this having a good old giggle so thought I'd add my 2p and own experience. When my Fabia was running with an AMD One-Click and blueflame turbo back exhaust (rr'd at 177bhp 271lb/ft) me and a mate who had a standard ST back then had a little play and I pulled between half a car to a car length on him from rolling start at the next roundabout he was on my rear like nobody's business as it out handles the fabia down to the ground. I went round the roundabout in 4th (too busy watching how close he was to me) and he went through in 2nd and left me standing. Show's you can't rely on low down torque too much but that was a case of bad driving on my part. There wasn't alot in it between the 2 and think the ST is a match for a remapped fabia and clearly better if both were standard. He's since had a K&N induction kit, flexi pipe and dreamscience remap box and says it's into the 170's. I haven't had a chance to have a play since he's done this but I've been in the car and there's no question they're quick. I've improved mine too but even with a VT2 and extras I don't think they'll be much in it between the 2 and when I do get a chance to play I'll come back and let you know but I'm not expecting to be suprised and I'm sure it'll be close and could go either way.

dont know what point you are trying to make. I never said anything about my driving ability, but as usual you bring it down to that. Again negative...

I dont think it bugs them, but if they are trying vigorously to get past in mildly fast cars and they struggle against a lowly Fabia it is natural for them (not you obviously oh divine one) to be a bit miffed.

I would be a bit miffed if a 'ch@vvy beat-up shed' kept me behind actually...

Please, change the habit of a lifetime and try, just try to be positive...

Chris is positive, unless it comes to discussing any VAG based veichle - then it gets negative

Er...surely "I don't think people lose sleep over being only marginally faster than a Fabia vRS" is not negative in the slightest towards VAG vehicles - if anything it's a reflection on how established the reputation of the vRS has become.

Personally I've not known anyone or personally been anyone who gets that upset about being overtaken by a "lesser" vehicle on the road - after all, it's not a race...

Rob.

haha

Who doesnt make it a race every so often when moving into a higher NSL?

Jesus, some people need to get off their high horse and stop finding a reason to say 'ooo shouldnt be doing that on public roads'.

Holier than holy my ****...

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Chris

does that mean you are going to try?

thought not...
