For those in the north that don't fancy getting down to Dover for 7/8am I have priced up the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and it roughly comes out at £248 (dependant on date obviously) return for 2 adults.

This departs from Hull on the Thursday night and arrives in Rotterdam for 8am Friday morning, from there it's roughly a 200mile trip to the ring.

Oh and the return trip leaves Rotterdam on the Monday evening getting back to Hull for the Tuesday morning.

The crossing does cost a bit more, but not having to get down to Dover it seems worth it to me :D

LOL!

that first 12 hrs down to Dover, and seeing the BP garage on the dual carridgeway at the port entrance is all part of the trip for me:thumbup:

Dover for 7am is not an issue- I'll prob just boost down the night before and catch 5 hrs kip in the car:D

If you are going to the ring in 2008, and planning on watching from the trackside, the germans have decided to install a huge fence around the whole circuit, so there is now no longer any point where you can get a clear unobstructed photo.

Hmm, thanks for that, Mr Blade.

Shame the only FULL weekend of Ring Action is at the end of June. What are people's thoughts on travelling there and back on Saturday/Tuesday, so 2 full days can be had on the Ring on the Sunday and Monday (I imagine mondays might be quiet? :D) - Now thinking about these dates

11.05.2008 Sunday 08:00 - 19:30

12.05.2008 Monday 08:00 - 19:30

Or sticking more to original plan, Saturday is open half day here

17.05.2008 Saturday 13:00 - 19:30

18.05.2008 Sunday 08:00 - 19:30

After that, the only consistent open all weekend dates would be.

28.06.2008 Saturday 09:15 - 19:30

29.06.2008 Sunday 09:15 - 19:30

My personal favourite is the 11th and 12th May ones. Doing a Monday and Tuesday off work, as opposed to Friday/Monday. :)

No Probs Jason :D

From what I've been reading this evening week days are the ones most likely get their opening times changed as the track is booked for industry testing. The evening sessions during the week are much quieter

11.05.2008 Sunday 08:00 - 19:30

12.05.2008 Monday 08:00 - 19:30

Those dates are fine by me... the ferry crossing from Hull is slightly cheaper as well working out at £228 return for 2 adults. Leaves Hull on the Friday night arriving Rotterdam Saturday Morning. Return trip on the Tuesday night from Rotterdam back in Hull the following morning.

EDIT: For those that are interested I have the Ring opening dates from Mar-Oct 08.

Well, I can recommend the "english pub" on site. Becks is served in BIG glasses.

As it stands, it looks like we'll need three cabins! Once numbers reach 24 I'll do some serious talk with centre parcs, try to get a bit of a group discount.

should be a fun weekend - will have to get lots of practice in Forza...

I was thinking the same as well :D but using GT4 :D

I know we have a few ring veterans here so I was thinking it might be a good idea to either organise either a ride along for the newbies to get a feel for the track or at least allow a newbie to follow you round a safe speed.

I also found this bit of useful information for anyone going to the ring in 08...

Taken from another site and cross checked on Northloop

Quote:

New, special regulations for the Nurburgring Nordschleife for next year during TouristenFahen.

- All German cars, (which must by law TÜV approved) will be allowed, provided that they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for any modifications on the car on demand

- Non German cars which are standard will be allowed(*)

- Non German cars which are modified will be allowed provided they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for all modifications on demand.

The reason for this is to combat the growing number of race cars which have been using TouristenFahren for cheap practice with a set of foreign plates on, and similarly cars with questionable modifications.

What the general thinking of this, is it will be enforced somewhat like the current noise testing etc, i.e. provided your car looks alright and proper, and you're well behaved you will be unlikely to get challenged.

However, in the event of an incident you'd get in a lot of bother, if you couldn't produce papers...

Similarly if your driving or your car attracts attention to itself, you might be checked...

Most parts (e.g. KW suspension, AP brakes) have TÜV approval, so you should be able get papers for them easily if they didn't come with your kit, by writing to the manufacturer if you have lost them.

Bits off race cars might be harder to explain though..

Can see, and understand why they're doing this from a safety point of view....

Similarly, its going to hope the local specialists, who might well get more business, as a result of perhaps non German tuners not understanding TÜV regulations...

If you have specialist components in your car, for which you don't have TÜV certificates, it is possible to get a SuperTÜV done, but its quite costly.

From reading several other threads. Rollcages also seem to be an issue. However, if your car is UK registered and has a GENUINE MOT and doesnt exceed the noise limit you SHOULD be Ok. but the more non-standard your car gets the more likely it is you'll get stopped and potentially have problems. Not sure many people want to get over to Germany to be told. Sorry, go home. The other issue that seems to have been instrumental in the rule change are he amount of people (a lot of Brits fall into this category) of taking sub £1000 ring cars that are maintained than they should be.

The general consensus in the discussion about this is it's aimed at racers trying to get cheap practise time and people going around the ring in complete sheds that drop oil and car parts all over the track. If you car looks fairly standard you should be fine.
