New Fabia Sport Arrived!!!

Featured Replies

Welshy,

johnwg's wife wants a Fabia1.4TDI Sport, her choice not yours. If this is what she wants why should you argue one way or another against her getting one.

You think it is financially naive. So what, it's not your money.

I buy brand new cars every two or three years, why, because I want to. I don't care about losing money on them, I can afford it.

Get over yourself and let people do what they want to do.

Neil

This is an open debate a proposalis on the floor so its purely discussing it why OP dig in saying why its their wn choice is not adding to the debate about which is the best car to buy

A statement like this might make sense had you made your recommendations once. Yet you continue to be "WAY" off topic! Giveing the feeling of harassing others on this forum... Have to believe this goes on elsewhere as well. Needing to have others agree with your opinion all the time has a medical name, yet it escapes me at the moment. Maybe our resident Psychologist/Psychiatrist could help sort this out for you. Who knows you might get a member rate, while your at it on the therapy.

If you actually want to go through the hassle /inconvenience of buying through "drive the deal" (rather than using it as a bargaining tool with your local dealer)

1. Thats subjective but the 2.0 TDI Leon Ref Sport is a step ahead of the Fabia interior exterior well thats personal choice.

2. Leon is the bigger car so if you cannot fit in that then the Fabia is too small

3. Both have the latest platforms and the Ref sport Leon has the firmer suspension which going by the actual jurno reviews is what is lacking somewhat in the fabia Sport

4. They are all VAG & you can take your car even brand new to be serviced yusing genuine parts at any VAT registered garage hence if your Seat dealer is poor go to the VW/Skoda/corner shop garage etc therefore this is a null issue

5. Depends really I would certain recommend that you use it as you say but if say the DD discount is £2.9k and all you can get from the dealer is £1k its a no brainer there is a cut off point clearly but that would be <£500.

5a. When you buy white goods we all check them out in the stores then search for the cheapest deal online why should buying a car be any different? Do you like paying over the odds/taking a bigger depreciation hit?

6 List price the Fabia Sport is WAY too much. You can buy the Fiat Grande Punto 130TDI for £10.5k which as per your first point you may not want the next size up this saves you a whopping £2.5k and has 30bhp more & 0% int 4 years.

1 - we weren't talking about the Leon, (as it was discovered it wasn't a new car), I was responding to your point about 2 different Fiestas and an Ibiza. And yes, looks are subjective, personal matter

2- again, we were talking about Fiesta and Ibiza, not Leon. But regardless of that, size of car doesn't necessarily relate to whether or not you'll be able to find a comfortable driving position.

For example - I fit fine and comfortable in our Fabia, not so comfortable in our Focus, and recently found a Citroen C5 very difficult to find a decent driving postion. Also, we chose our focus over a Golf (despite better spec, lesser depreciation and a more preferable colour), because the seats gave my wife a bad back..

3 - again, how you feel the car drives is a subjective, personal matter.

4- Last time I looked, Fiestas weren't VAG !! Plus, I was talking about the service you get when purchasing, not just when servicing. I was also saying that previous bad experience of a brand can be a strong enough reason not to buy from that brand. (again a personal matter), so not the null point, as you call it.

Irrespective of what it is, how many times do you get bad service, or a rotten product, and think "I'm never using that company again" ?

5 - As woodenspatula said earlier, there are other things to consider when using drive the deal that some people may personally consider to be too much of a hassle.

5a - when buying white goods online, you are effectively buying direct from the national stock of that company. Also, more often than not you will have a local store where you can go and complain/take it back if it's not what you ordered. This gives an added security. That's not how DtD works. I can't complain to my Edinburgh dealer if my DtD car came from Exeter.

6 - I agree, compared to other cars, that list price does look big.

However, I feel that personal subjective choices are good enough reasons to go for one car over another, irrespective of the price difference.!

My guess is they won't put up with his ****e either!!!:orb_duh: Plus would have to have some real money:orb_flipp to be posting there...

Now can we please get & stay on topic. "Woodenspatulas" originally wanted to know what Brikskodians think of the new Sport? From following this thread I'd have to ask if we're mostly in agreement? That the basic packaging of the sport is right. Yet could use an additional more powerful engine option maybe with an optional lowered sport suspension... Besides that as well as keeping this in mind, it appears "Skoda UK" have priced themselves out of the market! Even the MK-I vRS special edition topped out at less! So if you wish to shoot this back up the ladder to someone whom cares about moving the metal. Tell um to renegotiate their deal with "Skoda" to stay competitive!!!

I like the looks of the Fabia Sport :)

But am disappointed by the "stilt like" look and not even mentioning the lack of muscle in the engine range :P

The price stinks too :P

If this is Skoda's next hot hatch, I'm buying a Rover next

I'd say the only thing it lacked was the 'sports suspension' (remember the Ibiza Sport offers engines with similar outputs i.e. around the 100hp mark), regarding price well I supose in a few months we'll get a better idea when it comes to the discounts dealers are offering i.e. the real price rather than list

My view on the Sport?

Dont have one yet as im still 50/50!

There you go!

Id also say i was 50/50, I like the front and the back, but from the side it looks abit like the roomster, a little to high and not enough curve at the back IMHO.

With a remap, what figures would you be looking at on the 1.9tdi sport?

I think with a map, some 17's or even 18's and lowered about 60mm it would look sweeeeeeet!

Is there a lowering kit for it?

Personally i do think its a tad dear, but you no the build quality will be spot on and if you like it, you like it! Would have to be yellow!:D:cool::thumbup:

Is there a lowering kit for it?

Eibach do springs for them, That'll drop it about 30mm.

It doesn't look too bad

Its too expensive for what it is competitors offer a lot more for the same or less (some significantly less).

The worrying thing here thouh is the whole fabia range is now not what one would consider to be cheap and clearly the forthcoming vRS will be lets say £1-1.5/2k more than the sport which makes it much more expensive.

You need look no further than the Octavia vRS Mk1 that was a really good price yet the Mk2 is what £3k more... thats a big increase and has decreased the gap between its "budget" price and the competition

Honestly Who cares (apart from you).

Not everybody See's things in black and white.

And at the end of the day it's our money not yours. If everybody thought like you we would all be running about in 5 year old Perodua Nippa's

Come off it - if you read any magazine when they have a group test they rank the cars and price is one of the factors.

Watch 5th Gear or Top Gear and price is certainly one way they debate why on car is better than another.

No I couldnt care less who does or doesnt buy one but likewise clearly neither do the magazines they are pointing out the facts.

The reviews of the Fabia Sport (not yet in a group test that Ive seen) is that its a good little car with soft suspension that some may prefer on the UK roads - but all have pointed out its steep price and they all (like all reviews) give alternative options & their price.

Can someone please clarify why in general Im getting the strong impression that the Skoda Forum members are not concerned with the purchase price of cars even when they are notably more than the competition and in todays car markets like most will agree you there isnt really a bad car you can buy unlike 10 years ago.

Once a few have answered that question I will understand the economics of this forum as at the moment its either arguementative (i.e. riling me as somehow your happy at spending over the odds) naive or you know something which most other people dont.

Finally why do a few people post about not caring at all about the budget of a car.... thats a huge consideration and the second biggest purchase after house and near on Uk ave wedding costs.

If people are requesting a ban for me when all I am doing is challenging (fairly) their points and when I do they get personal whereas I do not then what is your Vested interest?

Like Stu I too have been disappointed by the tone of some of the posts on this thread. The Sport option is a welcome addition to the range and it is good value compared to the spec of the level 2 cars.

As for Welshy's point about the 'excessive' price of Skoda cars, I have moved across to Skoda from VW. The Fabia is a way better and much cheaper option than the equivalent Polo. I have also ordered a new Octavia Scout which in turn was a bargain compared to the closest VW had to offer.

Yes buying a car is a very personal thing. Price is very important and Skoda is still competitive considering the good mix of quality/spoec of what they offer.

If people are requesting a ban for me when all I am doing is challenging (fairly) their points and when I do they get personal whereas I do not then what is your Vested interest?

Welshy, can I suggest you take any questions such as this to the Off Topic & Chit Chat section as vRStu has already pointed out that this thread is already under threat of being closed for such things.

This is a Skoda forum for Skoda owners / enthusiasts so we don't really care if a 3 yr old, 60k mile Golf is a cheaper option, we're here to chat about Skodas. If we want to talk about the benefits of other makes we go to other websites devoted to them or at least have the common courtesy to stop constantly hijacking threads to repeat essentially the same topic of conversation.

Back on topic, I think by the time you spec up the sport with a few extras the price has exceeded what you would expect to pay for that size Skoda. It's not looking good for the price of the new vRS if they release one. :(

Mind you... the Mk1 vRS wasn't exactly known for its surefootedness was it?

The only thing missing from the Sport is the grunt from the engine... and like Mr Spatulas already mentioned, that can be solved by dropping in a tuning box.

Autocar yesterday PERSIST in saying the new vRS will be out in October though :P

Can someone please clarify why in general Im getting the strong impression that the Skoda Forum members are not concerned with the purchase price of cars

.

I wouldn't say that I'm not concerned about price, but that I'm not just concerned about price.

The car can be as cheap to buy and run and as great to sell on as you like, but if I (or my wife) don't like its looks or how it drives, can't get comfy, and have had bad experiences with a certain brand or dealer, I won't be buying it.

Is that clarification enough ?
