0 - 60 mph...

Featured Replies

Hi Guys/Gals,

Picking up my vRS next week, and was just wondering what 0-60 times ppl have had out of there motors, and what top speeds or other interesting figures (obviously I would assume anything listed over 70mph was achieved on a track ;) )

Mine will obviously turn up with the manufacturers 180BHP (or there abouts) and should be knocking off the 0-60 in 8 secs. Anyones un mod do it any quicker? I know my L&K TDI did it in under the listed Skoda time by about 0.5 to 1 second depending on conditions/driver.

I am new to this site, so don't know if this has been posted before, if so appologies, and could someone point me to the thread.

Thanks in advance.

Damien

Hi and welcome, not exactly what you asked for but here are two 4x4's with about 30 more BHP than an advertsied vRS...we need to get some vRS graphs done...Given the longer gearing on the vRS I would say sub 8 is very likly, although not when leaving the dealers :)

Search yields a dozen of so related, speak soon; oh and enjoy vRS, dare I ask what colour?

  • Author

Silver. Is that the most common colour?

Damien

Yes it is a bit common:D

Welcome to Briskoda, you will enjoy your RS. You will also learn not to say what colour you like most, whether you prefer 4x4's or the RS, deisel or petrol, Jabba or APR, bhp or torque, estate or hatchback. If I've missed anything I'm sure someone will point it out.:bttt: BMW drivers are fair game though. Sorry Huck.

BMW drivers are fair game though. Sorry Huck

hey, don't pick on me, i'm already having RS withdrawal symptoms!! god, i miss it! ( do like the 330 though ;) )

cheers rich.

16" or 17" * redface.gif; Conti or Toyo; H or J; oval or round; offset or inset; H&R or Eibachs; Ferodo or EBC; catback or dogback (I think I got that right); fixed or variable (servicing) etc etc

Time to polish the dog........dog.gif

Nearly forgot! Welcome to Briskoda, Damien. :D

* wheels and/or wipers.

dogback

he he :D

There's a good track in Kent ;)

It's in between Maidstone and Ashford and has the CTRL running alongside it :censored:

A track between Maidstone & Ashford.

Might that be the M20? I think thats slightly over populated by those cars with the yellow stripes and those people who give you very expensive pieces of paper:rolleyes:

It also has plenty of those nasty unmarked jobbies too:mad:

Cheers

As a humble and much ribbed 4X4 turbo Estate owner, I am amazed at the lack of response from our more vocal vRS-owning members about the 0-60 times for their cars. Surely someone with a 'standard' vRS has checked the performance against a stopwatch??? Or is all this vRS stuff the rest of us Octavia owners have to put up with daily just a lot of hot air????? Eh??????????????? :D

Damien, if all else fails, can you posts your car's times here idc?

Time to check the dog's 0-60 sausages time........dog.gif

If its any consolation, my 0-60 time will be another 23 years coming!!

Cheers

Denis , how does 3.6 seconds sound , but I think my watch is a bit slow :D

Hi Chaps,

Well I will be posting some 0-60 times of my new un-modified RS as soon as I feel the engine has run in sufficiently, ie about 1000 miles, until then it will be driven sensibly(ish). As far as I am aware the wheels will be 17" as they come as standard on the hatch, the 16''s come on the estate.

As my L&K 1.9TDI(red i) is going back to its spiritual home, I shall be out with the stop watch one night this week, just to find out what times it is doing now it is well run in. And I won't be surprised if it comes in under 10 secs. Anyone any advice on the best way to hit it fast? Loads of revs without ASR, loads in 1st and 2nd, then wait for 60 in 3rd, or variations on. I know I could find out by myself by trial and error, but time is now limited.

Also (unrelated to my post) i noted that the fuel economy figures for chipped petrol turbo engines go down, whereas from what I understand for diesels they go up. I am not mechanically tallented (gifted in the driving dept instead, I wish!) so was just wondering if this was right, and if so, why!?!

And as an aside, I am loving reading everything on this site, from problems ( ) that I might expect with my car, to the fun that can be had with them.

(Beer still talking) Also, can't wait to speak to my mate who drives a new 530 sport, as one of the things that he sited as being a 'increadible feature' was the increasing volume on the stereo with increased speed. Now I have read the brochure for mine, and set it, I can't wait to show that you don't have to spend

My RS is standand, as it is a company car.

I have tested my 0-60 with the ap-22 performance meter and constantly get a 0-60 in 7.2 odd seconds.

I did once manage to get a 0-60 in 6.5 but I think I was going slightly downhill.

All these results were 2 up and half a tank of fuel.

Denis , how does 3.6 seconds sound , but I think my watch is a bit slow.

A mipsprint (sic) by any chance? I'm prepared to believe 36 seconds but not 3.6.

PS for Briskoda Admin: Can we have a 'pinch of salt' smilie please?

Well this isn't always true.

With my chipped diesel, economy has improved overall but only when driven in a certain manner. If i drive with a heavy foot economy is worse than without the chip.

If on an economy drive, i always change gear around peak torque (2300rpm) as this is where the engine operates most efficiently.

Due to the higher gearing I can stay in this band even up to about 85mph. With more torque from the chip i can change gear earlier and exploit the higher gearing.

Driven in a similar manner i would expect a chipped petrol to behave the same. However, even if peak torque is developed low down, this is offset by the fact that the gearing is so much lower.

I've regularly had mine (RS) up around 150 mph on the clock. This would seem to be somewhere near the listed 147 top end. Of course. it's the torque that counts!!! blah, blah, blah. How I wish I'd bought a sensible Diesel....

I do find it a bit "sanitised" though in its power delivery. I've sold myself on the idea of a Jabba remap already, haven't owned it for quite a year yet and I miss the raw kick in the pants that I got from the two Renault 21 turbos that I've had before.

Simon.

Stef,

It's called GALA and can be found in the main set up menu (press and hold TP? Not sure.) Once you've found it just turn the volume button to set how 'sensitive' you want it to be.

Simon,

I'd like to introduce you to FabiaTDi. He'll no doubt be along later to reply to your post.:D

And while I'm at it, 'crystal set'???

Even Denis doesn't call them crystal sets! My dad doesn't call them crystal sets! He does enjoy listening to the radiogram though... (My dad, not Denis. I don't know what Denis does in his spare time. Apart from post here and walk the dog.)

'Ere - I'll have you know I made crystal sets when I was a kid. Well, sort of...

They had those new-fangled gera^Hmanium diodes instead of crystals and cat's whiskers. But they were crystal sets, definitely. Got the Light Programme, and the Home Service, and the Third, and... well that was it, really.

Today is Sweetmorn, the 18th day of Discord in the YOLD 3169
