S3 Lower Strut Brace

Featured Replies

Just wandering what price people have payed for their S3 lower strut brace.

I have got a quote of a local audi dealer for the following parts:

8N0 199 403B Brace

N 104 679 01 Bolt x 2

N 909 147 01 Insert Nut x 2

Total price £45...is that about right

Yeah, typically the dealer prices are hard to beat. Think that's a bit more than it used to be but doesn't sound that far off.

How much?

Im sure that i only paid about £30 for mine last year.

The actual brace its self was the most expensive at about £20+vat

Thanks for the replies.

The strut brace is approx £30 + vat, at the nearest audi dealer

sorry bit OT but is this the one that has the problems with the bushes or something going? and does it dolt straight on?

and should it be done at the same time as Rear ARB or atleast afta?

It's very easy. Some people have reported that the captive nuts don't engage in the subframe but I've installed the brace on two Octavias so far and not had any problems. As to compatibility with rear ARB, can't answer, I'm afraid.

A couple of pics in my gallery - Nick and Linda's gallery

was that at newcastle audi michael? i was thinking of doing the same

The price should be the same, whichever dealer you go to.

are you happy with the strut braces? ie value for money

I paid about that for mine from Audi. Tightens it up nicely but is loads better now I have my whiteline adjustable rear arb. Front arb bushes have just gone now though (Only had them done August:mad:) so when the powerflex bushes come through I'll be fitting a new standard bar and droplinks. :D

do you think fitting the s3 brace caused your bushes to go?

I dont see that the S3 brace would cause them to go. The garage replaced the bushes but not the bar which I gather can be corroded and as a result and be smaller where the bushes meet. Got a new bar and upgrading from standard bushes for powerflex 19mm Audi TT bushes should end the prob for quite a while:confused:

That Price of around 40 quid is right as I purchased one a few months back from Audi. Had no problems fitting. Used axle stands to hold the brace up in place whilst I wound up the captive nuts. I fitted the Whiteline rear ARB first and that alone was very good at sorting out the handling. I am not too convinced that the lower strut brace does that much. I can't remember what it was like before to be honest.

yeh ive just seen the whiteline for 60 quid from the states not sure about shipping but doesn seem alot

Does the S3 come with an upper Strut brace that fits the Mk 1 octy?

if so what is it like to fit and does it make the car understeer when fitted with standard ARB on front and whiteline 22mm rear and lower strut brace.

yes the s3 has an upper strut brace and it does fit the octavia.

no experience though on how it affects handling(i imagine not too much though without a lower one also)

It does, I'm sure there's a few people on here with them on. Maybe you'l find some pics with a search?

HY

i bought those parts but

8N0 199 403B Brace

N 104 679 01 Bolt x 2

N 909 147 01 Insert Nut x 2

insert nut is too small and i can not put it all together

i hae octavia 1 1,8t 110kw

do i need to welled it to the frame or what

please help

The insert nuts are not a tight fit, they expand when you tighten the bolts up. Trust me, mine where the same just put them in and do the bolts up feels like nothing happening then all of a sudden they will bite!

expanding bnts eh.... whatever next lol

You will be surprised how much flex you get at that point. Before fitting the brace fittted onto my MK1 vRS, the joint where the strut meets the bulkhead had lots of hairline fractures in the mastic caused by flexing. Once fitted the cracks never got any worse, and you are correct it looks good.

but they dont expand i can put bolt on nut it comes on easy no resistance

i do n get it ?????

i finger tightened mine on one end of the bar and offered it to the hole in the subframe then tightened with a wrench till it wouldnt turn any more to get the first bolt in 2nd bolt is easier. It was the only way I could stop the captive nut spinning round in the hole.
