NIP - boo!

Featured Replies

Just had an NIP through the door, this morning, from those nice people at Banbury. :(

39mph in a 30mph limit on 3rd January 2008. (i.e. Thursday after New Year).

Interesting that I didn't get my car back from the garage until 5th! (Saturday).

indeed... sounds like someone took it home for Christmas!

Think I may have an NIP coming sadly. Was a miserable old day going to work on Thursday - really dark and dingy. And I spotted a transit type camera van too late, hidden under the M5 along a very straight bit of 30mph. No houses by the road - not sure even why they made it all 30. Reckon I could have an NIP coming for doing 37ish. :( My only hope is that it was just tracking cars out the back, coming toward the van into Exeter, and that it had no cameras facing out the front windscreen like I know some do....

*fingers crossed*

Hope you get a good result from the above. At least you can take pleasure in the fact it's not your license being endorsed.

whats wrong with someone taking the car home?

what was it in teh garage for? if it was an intermittent fault then by the service manager taking it home once or twice it would have a greater chance of the fault showing than a quick 5 minute test drive. this sort of thing is quite common at garages and when my car was at start getting some work done jim took it home and drove it round for a day or two before i picked up to check he was happy with the map and how it drove, no problems with this myself at all but things like the speeding fine is definitly their problem and rather than simply filling out the NIP and sending it back i'd make the effort to go down and speak to the service manager and tell him whats happened to give them a chance to figure out who was driving etc before getting the letter.

Yeah as above just fill in the garage details and a company should keep a log of who took the car. Failing that if the fuzz took a piccie and it was not you ......

They had the car from around 18-20 December until Saturday 5th January to fix it after I'd been rear ended.

It's plausible that they were test driving it rather than "going to the chippy" as the offence was on 3rd.

I'll the garage on Monday. Then send in a letter and/or the NIP.

Probably an ANPR van that mate - its very prevalent lately. If it was then you got nothing to worry about.

You must send in the NIP, a letter is no good. Simply fill in the NIP, stating that the garage had the car at the time of the offence. They will then get an NIP to disclose the driver. If they fail to disclose the driver, then thats their problem not yours, you have all the evidence you need to prove that you did not have the car. If you dont send the NIP back you will get 3 points for failing to disclose the driver.

i'd be very upset if my pride and joy was being taken for long drives without my approval. then to find out it had been driven at speed through a 30mpg zone would just add to the insult!

we all know that they have to TD the car after any works been done to it, but to allow themselves to get caught speeding shows a lack of respect in my eyes.

how far away from the garage was the NIP issued? and id you get a full tank of go juice?

what does speeding have to do with anything?? so you'd have no problem them doing 70mph on a dual carriageway but 39 in a 30 by mistake means certain death?!?

and why would they fill it up with fuel after simply taking it for a test drive?

some people really do expect the world from dealers and be treated like gods when they have bought a cheap car from whats basically a budget company

Fair point about the garage taking it out for a proper drive or take home, but I would think it would be common courtesy to check you don't mind. I know my garage checked first.

ahem i work at a dealers and im just simply puttting across my own standards when test drving customers cars. 70mph in a 70 zone is legal, 39 in a 30 isnt, end of story. its about respect, if they drive like that in their own cars fair enough. but when you are driving someone elses car you drive respectfully.

i never said 39 in a 30 means certain death

and how do you know the car was a cheap one bought from a budget company? i woudlnt call any new skoda a budget car. budget to me is kia, chevy, and maybe citroen.

anyone who buys a car from myself would get treated as best as possible, regardless of purchase price. but then maybe my standards are higher than yours?

well said

fill the nip in with the garages details, any probs have a look at pepipoo.com, very good site for all ticket offences ;)

regardless of what you may think of Skoda, they are a budget brand from VAG.

regardless of what you may think of Skoda, they are a budget brand from VAG.

From VAG yes, but not in the grand scheme of things with respect to other motoring manufacturers.

regardless of what you may think of Skoda, they are a budget brand from VAG.

exactly.

so you would expect to be treated exactly the same buying a 15K skoda as you would buying a 75K BMW/MERC/AUDI etc etc

some options on other cars cost the same as a brand new octavia or fabia!!

and yes in the grand scheme of things skoda is a budget brand as teh most expensive car in their range with all options isn't even 30K where as the likes of bmw, audi, mercedes, lotus, ferrari, porsche etc etc all makes cars that are double this with no options.

skoda aren't so much a budget brand compared to cars in the same price bracket like peugeot, ford, citroen, vauxhall etc etc that normal working class people buy.

It doesn't matter if the car is a new Ferrari or a battered Micra, the garage have a responsibility to treat the customer and vehicle with respect.

It doesn't matter if the car is a new Ferrari or a battered Micra, the garage have a responsibility to treat the customer and vehicle with respect.

I agree entirely on this. Otherwise its disgusting and its saying somebody with a lower financial class does not have the right to be treated with the same respect and service as somebody with a higher financial class.

This is the 21st century, not the victorian times. The gaping gap between different wealths and how people are treated because of this is something that was abolished over a hundred years ago!

How the hell did this thread go from being about getting NIP whilst your cars in at the garage to a discussion on class and standing??????????

Anyway, if this happened to me I would be going Nucking Futs. I just don't need the hassle or have the time to deal with it and thats probably the same for a lot of people. You take your car in for a service to save you time/effort not to cause you another headache. No-one needs that crap especially as it is clearly avoidable

Completely agree! A friend of mine dropped his (very modified) Scooby in for a routine service at a main dealer and then was overtaken by it being driven like it was stolen about 30 minutes later. At that point he turned round and headed to the dealership to ask wtf his car was (as it clearly wasn't there) and the service manager couldn't apologise enough and apparently sacked the mechanic who'd taken it out. Part of me wonders how much of this goes on without us knowing. As a result I've always taken my cars to trusted garages.

Your attempt here to be obnoxious is quite poor and your examples are weak, and your perception lacks any kind of depth and empathy.

I wouldn't be amused in the slightest, and would expect some kind of goodwill gesture for the hassle involved to get it sorted.

"treated like gods", "budget company" - are you on a different planet or what?

Interesting reading the NIP properly...

I'm obviously the owner/registered keeper, so I get the NIP.

I "have" to provide details or the sky will fall on my head etc... Usual doom and gloom bolox they try to frighten you with.

Question: I have to provide details of "the driver". I can't do this. An organisation isn't a driver. Picky, but essentially correct.

I totally concur with Decron. If it had been over the Christmas period (when I know they wouldn't have finished fixing it), then I'd be going nuts. I may still go off on one depending on how they respond on Monday AM. either way, I could well do without the extra hassle.
