person i spoke to who has priced mine upw as saying the gennuine VW parts for the belt where cheaper than aftermarket but he couldnt find a genuine vag water pump with a metal impellor so hes getting another one.

think my quotes about £180 all in.

I had a quote from HACservice centre Nottingham, an independant, German Specialist,

if I recall it was £265 plus VAT.

They quoted £175 plus VAT for a full service

cheers

Progress Skoda Bedford. Quoted today:-

My car - £380 inc parts labour and VAT.

Wife's car - £400 inc parts labour and VAT.

Not really sure why a 90hp should cost more than a 130, but there you go.

Ron Turnbull, Middlesbrough (independent VW/Audi specialist): £237 all in for cambelt, pulley/tensioner and waterpump for my 2001 TDI Elegance.

Good price, but they did forget to add coolant after the pump replacement

No harm done, I think. Within a few seconds of starting the car, a warning buzzer sounded with a big RED temp alert light on instrument panel. The temp needle was still well below the mid mark.

NZ Prices

Dealer - parts $850 (GBP350)

Independent - parts $450 inc delivery and metal water pump (GBP180)

Fitting - dealer $650, local specialist - $660 (GBP260)

Ouch :(

:eek:Was there no coolant in it all or was it just low?

I'm not certain. But I think I remember seeing pink coolant right at the very bottom of the expansion tank. The guy had said he'd been out in it a little earlier for a test drive.

Perhaps they'd initially refilled it, after swappimg the pump, but then as the coolant went through the system (when test driven) the level went down?

How old is your car? The cambelt and tensioner must now be changed every 4 years regardless of mileage.

Do they have to ship the parts in for you ????

What about a Volkswagen dealer locally???

Surely we can sort something out this end to get the parts out cheaper for you:cool:

The $850 is from the Wellington Skoda/VW dealer with free shipping from the "local" depot in Singapore.

The Independent in a VAG parts supplier in Auckland NZ.

What would just the parts cost in UK? I'm over there for a week in two months' time.

And how heavy are they?

Any idea?

Any body had an Octy vRS done recently?

I just got quoted £386 for cam belt + water pump from a local garage. Waiting for a quote from the local dealer, but it seems quite expensive based on what some people have quoted here.

Have prices increase recently?

Thanks

Without the major service cambelt £100, cambelt and tensioner kit £175, with water pump £225.

£245 for a major service AND cambelt. Cambelt kit the cost of the kit extra, about £70 more. Water pump as well £50ish more. A coolant service eg caustic flush, new thermostat and new longlife coolant + additive typically £75.

Prices most 1.9tdi/1.8T's etc.

I can't say who it's from but midlands based you can always PM me for a web address!

Greg.

Hi all, useful thread this! I cant believe what Palmers Skoda Watford has just quoted me for a cam belt change on my Skoda Fabia VRS.... a whopping £530 including labour, parts and a new water pump. Flip i know you pay a bit more being near London but that seems ridiculous.

Anyone know anywhere in the Hertfordshire area I can get this done?

Thanks for your help:thumbup:

Powergrip Cambelt kit and a replacement waterpump on 54 plate MK1 Octavia VRS cost me £243 fitted at Coalville Tyre and Exhaust Centre (Coalville, North West Leicestershire)

They have a ten year served VAG mechanic named Mark. Worth a visit as they also did me a throttle body clean/reset and a full sensor diagnostic for sixty quid the other day.

bridgend volkswagon £361.54 all in for cambelt, pulley/tensioner and waterpump & coolant for the 1.8T auq vrs ,plus squeezed out a free oil & filter change :D ! .Rang a skoda dealer in cardiff they quoted me 5hrs labour plus parts @ 60 per hr pffft !! checked the job time in the autodata manual ..2-3hrs !! .

VRS AUQ engine. Local one man band charged £100 labour for cam belt and fit pump and coolant flush and change.

Materials came to just under another £100!
