felicia 1.3mpi Lpg conversion

Featured Replies

HI ALL......IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET MY FELICIA CONVERTED TO RUN ON LPG????

IF SO HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST......FUEL PRICES ARE BEYOND REASON AT THE MOMENT:mad:

an lpg conversion costs in the regions of a grand

i doubt anyone would do it on a 1.3 anyway its just not really worth it....say you save 50p on every liter of fuel you would have to use 2000 liters of fuel to make any money back, say you do 40 mpg and i think there are about 3 liters in a gallon thats about 14 miles per liter you would have to cover ABOUT 28000 before you made your money back....someone please correct me where ive gone wrong

Surely the conversion (if at all possible) would cost more than the car is worth.

Andy

I'd have thought it was more like £1500, really only worth it on a new car when the price would seem more acceptable.

Incidently there is a 1.6 with an LPG conversion on ebay at the moment.

LPG is best on a big old barge like a mercedes 230 or the likes

A UK gallon is 4.5l, so 40mpg is about 9miles per litre, so that's only 18000 miles - or 27000 if someone else's estimate of £1500 is correct. Obviously depends on your annual mileage, but you could easily get that back in two years. Bit of a gamble in one way: you'd have trouble getting the insurance company to accept that the car is now worth £1500 extra and if someone drove into it and wiped it out you'd lose the money! But it bears thinking about....

you'd be cheaper converting it into a diesel lol,

Tingley Do a kit for £500 and its an easy fit. The insurance cert can then be issued for a small amount once inspected. As for it not being viable am I missing something here?

Im currently running a Diesel and its economically not viable. Diesel is so more expensive than petrol now and with the increased maintenance costs makes no financial sense.

A 1.3 Felicia does between 35mpg-40mpg (not the most economical 1.3 engine around). However the kit would pay for itself within 12000 miles (for me thats 5 months motoring) and the great thing is 1.3 Felicia's are worth nothing. Once the car dies/wears out etc just transfer the equipment straight over and just pay for a new cert to be issued.:)

The only thing that worries me is that the honest Johns website says you cant use LPG on the SPI engine. I dont really know where they have got this information from? Its a very popular conversion in CZ and ive never heard of any reports of problems?????

TBH it's prob not really worth it.

I'm doing 15k per year but I get 40+mpg from my 1.6 anyway

Fuel prices have dropped to 106.9 after all that hoo hah about fuel strikes. It was 105.9 at my local Shell before all that kicked off.

Basically if you want to keep the car say for a good 5-10 years then its prob worth getting an lpg conversion done. Thats just my opinion.

I'm an ex lpg installer.. The tingley kit for that money would be an older induction (glorified gas ring mixer) type.. not as fuel efficient as gas injection systems. when doing mpg calc's bear in mind lpg has less bang per buck than petrol so if you get 40mpg on petrol you might get 35ish on gas. injection systems are more efficient but I would expect you to pay about £1200 for that .. Before you ask .. I'm not in a position to do foreigners at the moment!!

Hi there everyone, I've just bought a 1.6 felicia with the sole intention of lpg'ing it so it's interesting to read everyones comments. My job means I do 22k miles a year and I got sick of all the depreciation of other cars due to high mileage, which is why I just got a car that is already worthless (in some peoples eyes).I'm fitting an ebay multipoint system myself so for about £550 I'll be up and running and saving straight away. I can just about see the argument that the kit is worth more than the car, but I'll just move the kit to the next felicia. It's interesting that when someone suggests spending £350 on hp sporting coilovers no one questions their sanity (which is a good job as I'm after some too), but the fact it that by fitting the lpg to a £400 felicia I can afford to fit coilovers etc from the mpg savings.

felicia 1.3l and lpg is a big no no
It has to be very fined tuned
Power loss is a threat a great one
also rough idle
car dying randomly (on stop lights)
car not pulling right

car jittering

CAR RUNNING LEAN AND INSTALLER NOT BEING ABLE TO TUNE IT
i got rid of it and i had paid 1000 euros for it
So please know what u doing before attempting anything lpg related on 1.3l engine

This advice applies to any repair, maintenance, and tuning job. Nothing special. Ignorance costs.

As for the LPG conversion, your experience doesn't count as a rule. I'm sure you did a lot of mistakes in the process. Only the lack of details from your post stops me from making a long list of them.

I did not
It was installed by a so called "Professional installer"
The only details i know is the details he provided which are none
He attempted to re-tune it multiple times but to no avail so i deleted the lpg system

There are thousands of Favorits and Felicias converted to LPG without issue, some people even managed to run LPG only, without need for gasoline starts... So I think that your issue was caused by so-called "proffesional" or system, which was not suitable for Felicia

Professional installers offer a warranty. If the LPG installation doesn't work, the client gets refunded in full. Yet you said you lost 1000 Euro. That couldn't had happened without your 'cooperation'.

Everything is possible in greece trust me on that
There is a warranty but according to him the car ran fine so nothing could be claimed

it may not be suitable or it may not be well tuned
I have decent knowledge on engine tuning (i ve performanced tuned dirt bikes and stuff with great results)
But i could NOT get access to the required software to tune my lpg system myself
And no other installer wanted to take responsibility of tuning my car (that was worrisome btw)

I trust you. It happens in every country. You need a 'wise guy', a gullible/passive guy, judicial loopholes, and corruption. Yet there is another less friendly path. You could have shoved his 'well-running' LPG conversion in his rear end (preferably with no grease) until he would have begged you to take your money back...

The only technical excuse for an LPG installer would be this: if the engine doesn't run perfect on gasoline, it will run like crap on LPG.

well i would want to do that but manners keep me just complaining in this forum

I have  converted mine to lpg three years now, and works great. Absolutely no problems and of course all services in time.
