SWMBO has bumped the 4x4 again!

Featured Replies

Well I've just spoken to SWMBO to check on how our 9mth old got on at her settling in session at nursery this morning and got some bad news in return - SWMBO has reversed our 1yr old Octy into the side of an M-Reg Tigra and is not sure how!

Apparently she has been reversing out of an end on parking bay looking to either side for traffic and has stoved in the side of a parallel parked Tigra behind her on the other side of the road!

She reckons there isn't much damage to the Octy but a fair amount to the Tigra. And what is worse is that the Tigra owner is apparently something to do with the police  who works nights and is currently geting some shut eye.

She reversed it into the fence at the side of our drive the other month and she drove my MX5 into a hedge not long ago either (coming out of a parking space got first instead of reverse)!

Wouldn't mind but my cars are my pride and joy and I'm not allowed the Octy so have to use the old Fabia as she apparently needs the space for the reverse facing child seat. Personally I tink she's proved she needs something smaller!

Well at least on the positive side it might be one less Tigra on the road?

time for some parking sensors I think ;)

Yep it might be a few quid well spent if only to warn her to stop!

:thumbdwn:

Parking sensors and a visit to SpecSavers - only don't tell her I said so

Naughty SWiMBO!!

Oooh Laa laaa

Swap for a Roomster or Fabia estate

Stab her somewhere non life threatening. Its called aversion therapy. She will know next time she bumps the car, she will get stabbed.

:) HTH

no nooky for a while then

sound like she needs to re-take her test!

get her some lessons for birthday

Sure she's not pulling an April Fool's on you..?

Perhaps this is an April Fool? Heers hoping hey. :)

Indeed!

If my SWMBO did something like this to our octy, first I'd hear is as she's buying her one way ticket at the airport!

SWMBO was trained well :D

Obviously, she shouldn't be obeyed then!

I hope suitable chastisement was instituted!

Sounds like a smaller car with better visibility and hyperactive parking sensors are in order. Hope she doesn’t lose too much confidence though as this might make it more difficult for her to reverse etc, in the future.

Yes, estates take a while to get used to if you have spent years driving small cars.

Teach her to back into parking spaces when she arrives. Makes life so much easier

Well I had a quick look last night expecting smashed lights and dented panels but it would seem that the Octavia has come off surprisingly well - the rear passenger side corner is obviously pretty robust on the 4x4 and it looks like it's mostly paint scuffs that will hopefully polish out.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the Tigra she hit which has had the rear drivers side stoved in. On the positive side the owner has already had it up to a local garage and it looks like the dozy one (no llonger known as SWMBO:rofl:) has been very lucky - it should only be a few hundred quid to put right. It sounds like the damage has missed bending the sill, has missed the rear wheel arch and has missed the door pillar (all of which could have been fatal!):)

She's still not sure how it happened given she thinks she did look and has a fresnel lens but having said that it was apparently chucking it down, the car she hit was black and she remembers thinking the rear wiper hadn't triggered either.

Methinks some cheapo parking sensors may still be on the cards though:D

PS she admits she's crap at parking as well now!

Like you needed her to say that to know it was true?

Maybe the black tigra was an F117-Stealth Tigra?

Chris

Tell her that you can fit a rear-facing ISOFIX child seat in the back of a Fabia, and still have room for a 6' bloke in the passenger seat - and I can prove it!

Can'c comment on the parking, though - I reversed into our house yesterday (indirectly) :o . Sequence of events went:

Reversing onto drive as normal...

Spot bush on edge of lawn has blown over, think "must replant that a bit better"

*BANG*

Notice house is rather closer than normal in rear-view mirror

Move forward again, gingerly

Get out to assess damage - very little as it goes 'cos the rear bumper rode up over the top of a plant pot, and the towing eye hit the plant pot, pushing it into the wall of the house. Amazingly, there was only a scuff on the paintwork and the plant pot didn't even crack - would never have guessed from the bang, and it wasn't even as though it was caused by me stalling it!!!

LOL, fit sensors, and/or stop telling her 'that' is 6" :D

I can park my Octy better than I could park my Lupo!

Maybe she's just rubbish and shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a motor vehicle?

Looks like she might need one of these:

Then again you could just get some parking sensors fitted on the back.

And the front.

And maybe some down the sides.

:)

Rather stupid little cars, if you ask me. Seem to be driven by young female estate agents and nail 'technicians'.

Thanks folks - the replies to this have had me infits of laughter!!

Anyhoo - got the cutting compound and polish out last night and have managed to get rid of a large part of the scuffs. It needs doing properly with the electric polisher and will need some touching up but overall not too bad.

I still want to get underneath and have a good look as well but my guess is that all will be OK.

Either way it's all got to wait intil the weekend now.
