Hi all,

Was thinking about this last night and just wondered what is the first car you remember your mum/dad owning and driving in your childhood. Before I was born my dad had a Yellow Skoda as his first car.

Following on from that he had a Datsun 120y

Datsun Cherry

Fiat Panda

And this is the car that I remember from a young age.

It's a Fiat 127 comfort 1.1

After that he has owned a Ford Fiesta

4 Ford Escorts

2 Nissan Almeras

Mark 6 Fiesta

And this is what he currently drives at the moment.

So the aim of this thread is to stick up the first car you remember your parents driving and the current one.

I never really bothered with them. I can remember vaguely an old beigey astra, but I remember when he got the very first new shape passat - on an F plate. However, it was boring, but the GT 16v one he got on a H plate a couple of years later was not. I liked that car and was probably the kick I got which got me into cars in the first place.

Can't find any pics though on google images. :(

The first one I remember was an old red mini which they apparently bought for a grand and paid half cash half cheque. After driving it for a day they stopped the cheque for the second half!!

I remember it losing bits of trim and my dad having to get out and run back to get them!!

Edit:

Forgot current one.

He drives a 2007 Corolla Verso now!!

I can remember a large blue Zepher, not sure if I spelt that right but I have the nameplate off the back at home somewhere. :P This car was a giant.

My dad was one of the first to get get a 'princess' when it was still called some 1800 model, the car that looked a bit like a wedge and was ultra modern at the time. My brother and I thought the seatbelt release stalks were for ejector seats

I remember mother having one of these when I was about 9.

When I asked her, she said the got it nearly new as someone had ploughed into the back and dad was a mechanic.

My dad was really into Minis when I was a kid, he used to buy sorry-looking ones and restore them. The best one was a red Cooper S that I helped to paint (when I was about 4). After the minis he went through quite a diverse range of vehicles:

Austin Allegro

Austin Maestro

Datsun Stanza

Series 2 Land Rover

Another Mini Cooper

Fiat Punto

He now has a Hyundai Accent but after I took him for a drive round in my car last month I've a feeling I know what his next one will be.

Seeing that i'm 18, this won't be very interesting.

The first car I can remember that mum drove was a NOVA (the most powerful one on the market) That was the kind of car where if you sneezed with your foot on the accelerator you'd end up around 5 miles away without realising it. That car was stolen twice, once from behind gates and the other time from mum's work. She then got a new shape rover 200 as a present from dad (he worked for Rover for 36 years). Unfortunately that car was rear ended at 60MPH, needless to say, it was a write-off. She then won a Fiat Seichento in a competition but that was quickly sold for a Ford Puma 1.7 which she owns now.

Dad, having worked for Rover, went through several cars in my childhood ranging from Old 200's to Land rover Defenders in safari spec... now retired, he stuck with a Freelander in black.

Me, well it's been the Fabia for one and a half years now.

(was that too detailed?)

-Doug.

Back to the good old days...

Dad bought a brand new Chevrolet the same year I was born, 1954:

(without the extra accessories that's on this pic, though)

In 1961 he swapped it for a Studebaker:

which he used till he passed away in 1974. I kept it for a year, but petrol bills were just too much.

Never had a car, but my dad got a Mod scooter  in his later years when push bike became a bit much. He used to let me ride on the back and put my arm out when we turned corners. I still remember that, even then, I never knew my right from my left. His bruv occasionally arrived in a saloon car and parked it outside our house  and everyone in the street would come out to look at it and we'd confirm "it" was visiting us. :D
