This will most probably be my last post before Xmas as I'm off to Sunny Scotland for hols, so I thought I'd share my last few mods that I've done this year with you.

1. Coming home lights (Thanks to Luke for the idea) Simple mod which switches the Side Lights on at night when you unlock the car. Ideal for finding the car in a car park or just simply lighting up your drive when trying to put your key in the front door. Working quite well but still a few issues to sort out.

Blue LED Air Vents, silly I know but just wanted to try something different also W8 interior light

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXBw5RIq1-0&feature=youtu.be

Finally tried the flashing third brake light (again another one of Luke's ideas), bought a cheap one off Ebay simple to fit and so far no complaints form the Police even though I was followed for 9 miles (just going in the the same direction I suppose !) but they didn't pull me for faulty lights. The video also includes my custom rear LED light set up. Apologies for the video, the camera does not do it justice as the reds are red and the orange is orange, need a better camera (please Santa emoticon-0136-giggle.gif )

Link Here (Some odd reason will not allow more than two you tube videos)

Comment and criticism welcome, thought might not be able to reply due to sketchy Internet access where I going

Merry Xmas

I love the locking beep. No need to check its locked.

  • Would love a pictorial how-to just to be extra sure I'm doing the right thing when fitting!

  • First of all I'd like to say a massive thanks to Korban for his help on this one. This is how I did it. Firstly I removed the interior light. Remember this unscrews and doesn't just pull out Sold

Excellent work, love the video's.

Led's in the vents looks gooood!!

2nd video is like a scene out of back to the future. :)

Agree loving the interior (mood) lights the vent lights rock :)

Some excellent mods there.

Loving the different colour door lock/unlock buttons.

Was the W8 light led change easy enough to do? I remember fitting one of those in my Polo and my Golf. Was simple enough to do and was considering it for the Fabia but would want green leds.

B)

what is that read out above your vents and what info can it display?

also the vent lights are so cool, top work.

So the flashing doesn't happen when the brakes are pushed hard? Just the first time after a 7 second gap? Even if your hardly touching them?

Liking the coming home lights thing, pretty funky!

I want the locking beep?! :(

Like the flashing brake light... Interested to know how you did it?

Excellent stuff.

How did you do the coming home lights?

I want the locking beep?! :(

Love the idea of coming home lights

I had the beep enabled, then after about a month it became rather annoying! Back to silent now!

Same here I have the bleep also it is quite handy, I do like the coming home lights too, would be a nice little touch. Is it easy and inexpensive to do?

Pretty cool, the coming home lights would be a handy mod if easy enough.

guessing the coming home lights are relay wired into the interior light and the headlight switch.

Am I right in thinking that your rear side lights increase in brightness along with your brake lights and 3rd brake light illuminating when braking?

If so I don't think mine do this, is this an easy thing to achieve?

I think they do. Should be the same. They borrowed this from the Felicia as they do the same.

I fitted coming/leaving home lights to my felicia. Being thinking about doing it for a while on this car but with some extra wiring so that when you open the door they turn off as per OEM fitment I have seen on many cars.

Also I really like the different coloured lights on the lock/unlock button. Quite tempted myself by that one as it would make it stand out more from the other buttons.

How easy is this to do?

Are the bulbs in holders and just swapped straight round or are they soldered on some buttons?

Phil

would love the coming home lights!

I like the centre brake light mod, please supply details how you have acheived this.

Any info on the above ??

See OP's post above "This will most probably be my last post before Xmas as I'm off to Sunny Scotland for hols".

Be prepared not to get a reply until the New Year...

Nice job!

I love the brake lights BUT I'd only want it to come on if it's a hard/sudden pedal press. The idea of it flashing when I put my foot on the brake to stop it from rolling forward at 0.01mph seems a bit annoying. For that reason alone I don't think I'd bother unless it could be done like the AMG's.

The coming home lights... Superb, I'd love them, I'd prefer it if my Xenon's, LED fogs, sidelights and reverse lights came on. If that could be done every time I unlock the car and lock the car that would be amazing. If you could provide this service let me know as I'd happily pay!

Relays + DEI alarm (Clifford, Viper etc). Wire relays to auxiliary channel and program to come on when locking and unlocking. You could use a system which switches lights on in the dark so they only come on at night, and are automatically turned on as you drive. E.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Valeo-Lights-Off-/200408343018?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item2ea944a1ea There's the DEI 545t but I believe that turns the sidelights on and off when wired such that it is activated by an alarm system activating it (to let you know it is being activated by the alarm and you've not been a dimwit and left the switch on) - although it could be wired with a relay and diodes to make it think the ignition is on instead when being activated by the alarm.

An alarm is the most practical method IMO. You could do it based on the lock switching, or the internal dome light itself, but those would require a bit more thought and planning.

Back off Hols so a quick reply to most of your questions

Thanks for the comments

Easy enough to do, in fact the illumination for the buttons was green already and the two LEDs for the ambient light's were orange so had to change the whole lot just swapped for blue 3mm LEDs

Just a cheap Clock, Inside/Outside Temp and Voltmeter purchased off Ebay

So the flashing doesn't happen when the brakes are pushed hard? Just the first time after a 7 second gap? Even if your hardly touching them?

Yes your correct Matt. Push once and they flash but as long as you re-apply the brakes within 7 seconds will not flash again (to stop them flashing if you are stuck in traffic)

Like the flashing brake light... Interested to know how you did it?

Just bought a cheap module off Ebay here and wired it in place. Took about 15 Min's to do

P1010962.jpg

guessing the coming home lights are relay wired into the interior light and the headlight switch.

Almost right Matt but also purchased a light sensitive switch so that they don't come on during the day

Picture of Light Switch Module which does the job, no big relays as I'm only powering my side lights which are all LEDs

P1010942.jpg

At the end of the white lead is a light sensitive resistor which I placed in the bottom of the windscreen.

Am I right in thinking that your rear side lights increase in brightness along with your brake lights and 3rd brake light illuminating when braking?

Yes all four red lights light up on low power for side lights then change to high power for brake lights plus the middle (standard VRS has only two side lights). Custom LEDs fitted inside the rear light clusters so not an easy mod.

Also I really like the different coloured lights on the lock/unlock button. Quite tempted myself by that one as it would make it stand out more from the other buttons.

How easy is this to do?

Easy mod just solder in different colour 3mm LEDs.

Either they purchased something designed for the purpose and wired it in, or are an electronics genius and knocked up a board themselves.

No, just off the shelf parts modded to do the job

Nice job!

I have an idea Luke on how to stop them flashing unless you brake hard - so watch this space. As for switching other lights on it can be done easily via some relays and diodes. Dark_Hero should be able to do this for you, I will be creating a little how too guide once I have tried one more little mod to the system.

If you have any more questions let me know and I will try and answer them.
