flexible hose on the front end exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi i have 2008 skoda superb 2.0 tdi 140 bhp, i have slight leak in the front flexi hose pipe which is only about 1 inch long, is there any repair that can patch this flexi pipe as it doesnt seem to move at all. high temperature silicone has been suggested. Any suggestions please rather that £ 800.00 renewal. Bill

Have you tried looking on ebay for someone breaking a spares and repairs car?

what does the leak do? does it make a whistling noise in the 1500-2500 RPM range? that's the noise my car does (same configuration) and my mechanic told me it was a small hose that went bust on the exhaust, but that it is difficult to get to - it will cost me on work hours rather than part itself... It is supposed to be a cosmetic issue only though. Anybody has any more information about this?

Just got an advisory with my MOT that there is a small leak to the short flexible pipe by the catalytic converter. The dealer says that on my car, a 2006 Superb 2.0 TDI PD, it is not a separate part but comes with the cat at around £800 - so seems to be the same problem as Billymichie's.

Surely a decent exhaust specialist shoud be able to replace the flexible pipe with a suitable part at a reasonable cost rather than replacing the cat? Has anyone done this - any advice would be welcomed.

Pfff. 800 :D. I think you refer to, that we call, a sock. It allows the exhaust pipe to flex, when it needs to. This you can get from any muffler shop and any exhaust repair company will change it for you.

Thank you Browser - I thought as much. I check with an exhaust specialist in a couple of weeks and post an update.

I've had this sorted on a Polo 9N - took it to a exhaust builder but he fitted the wrong size of flexi repair section, so, I took a tip from someone on the Fabia section and bought the correct flexi repair section from www.senioraftermarket.co.uk you will need to do a few bits of measuring so that you get exactly the correct part - that means the correct diameter + correct flexi bit length + the correct grade - buy the top grade as it is near the cat. Then take your flexi repair section to an exhaust builder and they will replace that section. Why I am giving this advice is, the supplier that I suggest manufacture these parts so carry the complete range, an exhaust builder's supplier will only carry a shortened range so unless you are very lucky, the part getting fitted will not be exactly correct which can lead to nasty resonances at certain revs and fouling the body at certain times - in my case when reversing up the drive - both VERY annoying!
