Replacement tyres

survey

Recommended Posts

Soon be replacing tyres on our Yeti. The original Dunlop SP01'S (£104 each) have done very well- 44000 miles and still with legal tread. May buy these again or perhaps Kumho Ecsta's (£87 each) which are performing well on my MB. Any other ideas?

All manufacturers tend to change their original fit tyres from time to time. I had thought about the Goodyear but I seem to recall that there was a reason why I was advised against - maybe it was poor life.

Why wouldn't you go for one of the new cross-climate tyres? Provide excellent performance in both summer and winter conditions, seem to be ideal for UK's fickle climate.

Pleased to say that my April 2016 Yeti came with Michelin Primacy 3

(Unfortunately a non-repairable puncture on the way home from Yeti handover cost me £128.34)

My two Espaces over 25 years and 200k miles always had Michelins in varying guises and no complaints.

Michelin Cross Climates have a lot of support on the other forum.

I was a bit skint when mine required new tyres so bought the budget ones from Tyres on the drive.

I did read the ratings on the website ref rain, mpg etc and have found these tyres to not only be great but also give me around 3-4 mpg better than the Pirelli's that came off it.

Expatman - Already have a set of winter tyres and wheels, so summer tyres needed.

So have I, but when my present tyres - Goodyear Efficientgrips - wear I will replace with Cross climates to avoid the hassle of changing twice yearly. Then seek to sell the Nokian winter tyres/steel wheels if there is any life left in them.

Incidentally the Goodyear Efficientgrips have been excellent, quiet, comfortable, excellent road handling and wearing well.

I'm intending to run the new Yeti on the OEM tyres until the year end then fit Cross Climates and store the OEM tyres. The theory being that when I come to trade in the Yeti I may well need to replace the tyres so having almost new tyres would be an easy fit. I get the benefit of the CC tyres and save having to change to winter wheels etc.

I'll to try to find a good home for the winters I have to give me some space. 16" Spectrun Alloys with Dunlop Winters any Yeti owners interested PM me.

Tyres degrade over time even when they're not being driven on - the rubber gets less flexible and you can start to see cracking in the surface of the sidewalls.  Depending on how long you plan to keep your Yeti, By the time you come to sell it (four or five years is often quoted as the time to start checking for age-related degradation) those tyres might be due for replacement anyway!

Understand what your saying but the intention is to go for a Yeti II after a short period of production so maybe 2-3 years max. I'll be able to rotate and store them in the dark so I think they should be OK?

Now had Michelin Cross Climate for about 9 months and very happy with them. Good grip, seem less noisy than the OEM tyres and as I keep detailed brim-to-brim records can see they are returning a consistent 2-3mpg improvement on the OEM tyres. Not had an opportunity to try them in snow but no reason to believe they won't live up to the promises, they have in all other respects.
