  1. Thank you all for your input. They're not in stock yet, but I managed to pre-order a set of the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 tyres from Costco in Aberdeen. They kindly let me have them at their discounted sale price, even though the sale will have ended long before the tyres arrive. At under £700 for the full set and fitting, I couldn't refuse. I'll try to remember to add a review here in the new year after the tyres have had a good work out ☃️

This reddit recent-ish discussion may be of interest The original enquiry relates to a 2023 Fabia Mk4 Monte Carlo (1.0litre motor) with DSG transmission that was making 'clunking' noises. The following advice was provided First thing I would do, is do a DSG reset, there are guides online and need no special knowledge to do. ================================= To reset the DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) on your 2023 Skoda Fabia and clear its adaptive learning memory, perform a manual throttle-kickdown reset: Turn on the ignition (do not start the engine) so all dashboard lights illuminate. Press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor until you feel the "kickdown" button click. Hold it down for 10 to 60 seconds. You may hear faint clicking as the solenoids adjust. Release the pedal and start the car normally, or turn the ignition off and restart. Why Do This? Over time, the DSG's Transmission Control Module (TCM) adapts to your specific driving habits. If you experience jerky shifts, delayed throttle response, or clunky gear changes, a reset forces the gearbox to "forget" these patterns and relearn a smoother shifting profile. Post-Reset Advice After resetting the transmission, ensure you drive normally and gently for the first few miles. Avoid heavy acceleration or hard braking so the gearbox has a smooth, controlled environment to relearn the ideal biting points and shift timings. Note: This procedure resets the transmission's learned driving habits but will not clear mechanical faults. If you still experience severe hesitation, shuddering, or warning lights, the vehicle may require a diagnostic scan tool (like VCDS or OBDeleven) to check for deeper issues or perform a basic settings adaptation. ================================= Once that is done, if you still get issues, get it booked in for a full DSG service. I'VE NO IDEA IF THAT ADVICE IS VALID
  3. We arrived at precisely the right moment! For around 5 minutes the sky was absolutely spectacular although within a couple of minutes it was like someone had turned out the light.................
  4. Thanks, it worked! Got it activated. It is showing only Android Auto and MirrorLink, not the iPhone variant. I think my USB port isnt compatible with it.
  5. Welcome. I would not be so sure a Motability car has not been ragged. It might be one Registered Keeper and any amount of drivers and the disabled person maybe never in the car. My Motability cars were Never Raced or Rallied, well not much. As to Servicing was it just Oil & Filter changes at Flexable / Variable Servicing. Motability do not want them serviced on Fixed Servicing. Unusual that Motability would agree to a DQ381 DSG service before the 80,000 miles. Was the brake fluid changed at 2 years or 3 years? Where the Spark Plugs changed at 40,000 miles, then at 65,000 miles? You need to be sure that the Motability car was leased the full 3 years and not returned early so not Motability having the service cand MOT done before the car went to BCA.

Had my mk3 Octavia scout 2 years now and only just found this great forum Il be looking for maintenance advice so thanks in advance
  7. Hi Alasdair. No, I haven't done this. To be honest, I'm not confident about removing the air filter pipe and box to get to the required area under the bonnet, nor about removing the trim etc to get to the area under the gear selector. In the old days of my Estelle and Favorit perhaps, but not on my son's nice new car! But yes, will definitely mention to the garage tomorrow. Thanks.

  9. The siren is supposed to stop sounding after a few minutes, if the event that triggered the alarm is not still present then the hazards will continue flashing without the siren sounding. So hazards flashing but alarm silent is not necessarily an indication of a failed alarm battery.

    @Lar What problem needs solving?
  12. Unfortunately this kind of attitude was rife with Ford dealers who I have dealt with in the past which made me switch to Skoda who were much better. But many of the Skoda dealers, particularly the big franchised dealers, seem to have now gone down the same path. Such a shame and no wonder they have poor reputations and cannot be trusted. All they are interested in is maximising their profit at the expense of their customers.
  13. Curious that 2 x 'new here' members both want the details and service history.......? Puts me in mind of the long lost 'barn find' highlighted in a YouTube urban explorer video recently - at least a dozen requests for a lost V5 were made to the DVLA......?
  14. To check the alarm siren on mine if I lock car with fob and wait for a few mins then unlock door with key the alarm goes off if I dont put key in ignition within 20secs aprox. You could also leave window down and lock car then wave about inside car through window. If the hazards are flashing but no siren the battery as said in siren has probably failed. It can also trigger alarm if theres any damage to circuit boards in siren due to leaking batteries. Alasdair
  15. If hazards were flashing with no audible alarm sounding, it's possible that the alarm was triggered by falling battery voltage or something else and the internal alarm unit battery is faulty.
  16. Had your alarm been triggered by any chance?
  17. Hello everyone, just to say hello to everyone here and introduce myself with my first ever Skoda purchase. Me and the missus decided to purchase a 2016 Skoda superb se 1.4tsi act. I've never owned a Skoda before so this is my first on recommendations from a friend. Bought it the 29th October so only had it a few days and to say I'm impressed is an understatement. The build quality and smoothness of driving it is amazing. Having owned range rovers over the last 8 years I thought I could never find anything to at least match it. Unfortunately due to having major surgery I needed something more economical and cheaper to run, add it was costing me £200 a month just to keep it legal. So far I've yet to find fault with anything, it's very comfortable to drive and the dsg box is very smooth indeed along with the engine just purrs like a kitten. Decided on petrol as I'm sick of the price of diesel rising along with dpf, egr and other diesel problems. Very smooth to drive along with a very quiet cabin, interior build quality is extremely well put together. My missus loves it, even more so since she found the sports mode which I failed to tell her about, but now she's found it, oh well. It's only done 75k but no service history, however I've spoken to a dealer and says it's digital and to call back Monday. The car has been very well looked after previously only doing 7-8k a year between MOT's and nothing worn on the car at all. So yes, very happy so far. Is there anything to expect as in surprising problems that may arise? Thank you all.
  18. Thanks binx, it's the 7 speed so that's good to know.

  21. I assume price reduction of AGM batteries is due to economy of scale rule. Prices of them a few years back was disproportionately high, I thought.
  22. Parked up at the supermarket this afternoon... ... which means I've averaged ~15,000 miles/year for each of the last five years 😳

  25. It is Maxton Design V2, bought it from Kopacek. Adds a lot to the look of front, love it. Also since last update I've added Rieger rear diffuser and Maxton sideskirts. Exterior is now complete for my liking. Yes it is L&K and maybe you should not do that, but I don't care, I do whatever I want 😁
  26. I will send this to you via private message, please make sure to watch the youtube video above while you download
  27. This problem seems to be finally solved All it needed was just a replacement PAS pump... I could not find any problem with steering angle sensor (actually turned out to be Hall-type), so it was either the pump or rack. I ordered a renewed PAS pump from a Polish company, Auto Fun. It cost abt. 220 € inc shipping to Finland and it comes with 2 yr warranty. IMO this was the most feasible solution taking into account the value of the car. The reason I talked about changing both pump and rack was because I recall seeing some information that SMI Koyo parts should be renewed together for some reason (maybe €€€...?) Of course I had to disassemble the old PAS pump, and actually I found some damaged sealings at the gear pump located in the unit. It sounds logical that there was an internal pressure leak between intake and outlet of the gear pump. There was also some corrosion visible inside the PAS pump, but not very much - looks like electronics are still intact. I mounted the "new" pump, filled the system with fresh PAS fluid, started the engine, did a few lock-to-lock twists and checked the fluid level. Dropped the car on its wheels and went for a test ride - worked like a charm from the first moment! Thanks to all or your comments and help!

  29. Sorry it has taken a while to check. It is not good news, the 14" wheel does not fit over the Mondeo calliper, even with the 25mm spacers which I have fitted.
