1. They don't have a simplex chain. It's duplex.
2. My understanding is that it's a result of being tuned for EU emissions legislation. It depends how rough we're talking, it shouldn't be much more than slight lumpiness or something is wrong.
3. Yeah, they stretch pretty quickly. Never heard of one snapping though.
4. Not at all, they start rattling long before that. It's a poor design with no chain tensioner.
5. For a quick reference, this is mine idling at 70,000 miles. Original timing chain....
6. Yeah, the Super Pin is expensive. Let us know how you get on with a workaround.
7. What about the one wino posted?... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Genuine-Audi-VW-Seat-Skoda-Steering-Angle-Sensor-6Q2-423-291-A/203070035069?hash=item2f47ead47d:g:XmIAAOSw6v5fLSOg
8. Yeah, showing as the non-captive type currently.
9. Part numbers here ...... https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2005-453/7/711-711030/
10. Oh that's very odd. His link keeps changing. It was for the captive cable type when I posted. I can see why you were confused. Must be the Halloween ghosties playing about
11. Yeah, I think there are later ones that don't have the T20 screw. I have read on VW forums that it is riveted and is not meant to be removed. So seems like they want you to replace the whole mechanism for a broken spring. Madness. See where he mentions the rivet at the bottom of post number 3 here.... https://www.golfmk6.com/forums/index.php?threads/side-to-side-shifter-slop.312758/ They go on to talk about an aftermarket pin called 'Super Pin' that somone designed to take the place of the riveted pin which you drill out, but it's an American forum and I don't even know if the pin would fit the MK1 Fabia, even if you could get hold of one.
12. Ooh, images not showing since site update Anyway, this.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-SKODA-FABIA-VW-POLO-SEAT-IBIZA-STEERING-RACK-ANGLE-SENSOR-6Q0423445/153403479479?hash=item23b78f55b7:g:6AkAAOSwBDpe-zdg
13. Isn't the one sepulchrave posted the right one though? I thought the later ones with the plug look like this?......
14. ^ No it won't fit. You need the one that has the cables that are directly attached to the sensor as Wino said.
15. The alternator wires snapping at the plug near the gearbox.
16. Gunson Eezibleed. Cheap and effective, I've been using one for years.
17. Could also be broken wires in the rubber door bellows or the window motor itself as it contains the control electronics which can fail.
18. They do tend to 'chatter' in neutral but seem to go on for years like that. Mine does it too and I changed my gearbox oil. If you do want to change the oil, only 1.4 MPIs before October 2001 have a gear oil drain plug - later ones only have a 17mm hex filler plug and you have to suck the oil out with a suction pump, I got a cheap one on ebay which worked but I had to modify it with a thinner tube. The box holds approx 2 litres. Filler plug location is just above reversing light switch...
19. This video shows how to remove and open the instrument cluster....
20. Yep, same on the Mk1.
21. It's in the cluster on the MK1. Hence the common issue of dodgy immobiliser solder joints on the back of the cluster. Pins 17 and 1
22. Hutchy's last activity is showing as 4th Jan, so he may not be around.
23. It's worth noting that the immobiliser is in the cluster and is coded to the car, so you can't just bung a used one in without having it coded.
24. All the trip button does is press one of these two switches when you turn the button either way. Seems odd for that to fail.....
