12000 miles since last major service I thought I would replace the cabin filter. This is the filter fitted 12000 miles and two years ago and question by the colour and condition if it was replaced. Its a VAG VW BEHR and I would not be surprised if it was the factory original.

Owned the Roomie from new since 2013 and I can say it has been a pleasure and the most reliable and least expensive vehicle I have owned. Apart from dealer services I have spent nothing on repairs, I admit it has only travelled 40k but everything is original apart from one number plate bulb which blew and tyres. It comfortable cruises around Europe up to Mount Blanc and down to Lake Geneva without a murmur. Would a buy another Skoda- most certainly

Thanks for your answers, JR. Don't think I will do an Edd China. My son's Ford Fiesta where the rear light cluster meets the polycarbonate rear bumper assembly is out off alignment by a mm or two. Seen a few Fiesta's the same so Skoda is not alone

When I owned a Fiat the sump plug was tapered so it never required a washer. It never caused leaks but such a simple arrangement - don't know why more manufacturers did not follow.

I have screwed out the rubber stops to match the perfect side and it is a compromise. The alignment is better but the gap at the front of the bonnet where it sits over the grille is larger. No doubt the hinges need to be readjusted but hey! ho! it has been like it since the factory assembly 7 years ago so it can stay like it. If it had a Rolls-Royce badge I would have taken issue over it.

Rubber stops - that is the answer. I had to the replace largest one at the front of the bonnet on that side as it was missing after the chamois I used to wipe the underside of the bonnet after washing must have hooked it out and I did not notice it until a week later when I checked the oil. The rubber stop is threaded and I screwed it all the way home so it did not fall out again but that determines the adjustment. I will screw it out so the bonnet aligns with the wing. I have owned the Roomie from new since 2013 and I saw it at the dealers when it was wrapped in the white plastic protective skin. I have not had any accident damage to the nearside wing but it has always been raised and does not fit flush and slightly proud with the bonnet. It has been an irritant but I realise that the Roomster is not a Rolls-Royce. I wonder if it was a bad batch of pressings and if other owners have the same? Perhaps a prospective owner or dealer may query if the car had been in an accident. The first photo shows the offside wing and the second the passenger side which fits flush.

FM and AM have been given another 10 years reprieve.

Designs are not thought out. On my 1.2tsi (chain engine) the pipe which feeds the PCV valve is rigid and goes into the air intake. When the technician lifts the top off the air box to replace the air filter it puts leverage on the PCV valve where it goes into the rocker box and breaks.

I believe in Germany the plate is registered to the person and not the car so you take your plates with you.

In the passenger footwell is a fibreboard cover. Pull it down and to your right are black plastic slides. Push the slides to release the cover to expose the filter. Pull out the filter. There is a film on Youtube in step-by-steps

I always use to service my own cars because I could choose the oil and when to change it. I was not subservient to the car telling me when to service it. I had no problems. Now that I have turned 70 and not so flexible to slide under cars, the Roomster has that plastic undertray to remove and then engine has that inverted oil filter positioned above the alternator which I am wary of oil spillage so I have handed the car to the dealer and latterly to an independent specialist.

I believe that one supercar manufacturer gives you a professional driving course before you pick it up. They are lethal in the untrained hands as is repeatedly shown in the media. BMW M series are more dangerous than a Vauxhall Nova SRI

Is it a cold start characteristic. My Roomster does not start immediately from cold and requires a few engine revolutions to fire. Unlike my sons Fiesta and my previous Fiat which started more instantly.

I do wonder if these supercars are suitable for road use. In the newspapers there are regular articles regarding celebrities who have crashed such vehicles. On a public road there is no margin for error and planting around 800bhp or more on the tarmac has it risks as we are tediously shown. These cars should be licensed for the racetrack or private roads only.

Could it be the crankshaft sensor? I had the same problem on my daughter's Vauxhall Corsa

This resistor pack seems to be a Skoda weakness. I have lost speed 1 on my Roomster last year but it is located under the passenger side airbag so I have decided to leave it until all or speed 2 fails.

I realise that tyres have a limited shelf life but I have noticed that the only factory-fitted rear Hankook is showing signs of deterioration after 6 years. My sister-in-law's Fabia of the same age is shod with the factory-fitted Continentals and they have no signs of perishing. I have never had this tyre problem before and am wondering if Hankooks are prone to it? I realise that tyres should be replaced after 5 years for safety reasons. I have always been particular about maintaining correct tyre pressures.
