  1. It’s good to see relatively new member OP coming back to report an outcome, let alone showing gratitude for the help given. So often nothing is heard. Hope you get it sorted, AJJD. 🤞🤞
  2. Not owned by me, but the thread title is about past cars, and this is deffo a past car! The band was ‘Dave KC and the X-Rays’ (I’m the blond one - the drummer) car is a 1911 Daimler, owned by the dad of one of the guitarists, pic taken 1963/64-ish
  3. My first car, a 1937 Morris 8 Tourer, and my Norton Model 50, the latter my first ‘proper’ motorbike, bought the day after I passed my bike test (on a Lambretta) at 16 yrs old in 1963.
  4. I’ve never agreed with a post more! It seems though that Lee McKenzie is in demand for other sports and tv channels as well, so possibly doesn’t want to (or can’t) commit to 23 weeks all over the globe.
  5. I agree, frustrating, isn’t it. You would think that if DVLA have been properly advised that the vehicle has been scrapped, the number could be reissued. I suppose one problem is with the thousands of ‘rare barn finds’ that appear regularly, that have never been SORNed or officially scrapped, and which still show the original plate. Also cars that disappeared before DVLA had computerised records. Simply to have a complete embargo then starts to make a bit of sense - from DVLA’s viewpoint anyway.
  6. Out of curiosity some months ago I requested a ‘webuyanycar’ valuation for my Octavia, which was £1800 above what I’d paid for it, and since then they have been telling me of new, upward valuations. (I have no intention of selling it, btw) But a couple of days ago they emailed me to say I should accept the latest, as prices would be going down, and that their next valuation would be lower. A ruse to get me to sell, or an honest appraisal of the market? Answers on a postcard, please.
  7. Thanks, Hansen, do you have a link or web address please?
  8. Wonder if they do them for Nissan Note, Mrs B caught the wing mirror on a pebbledash wall, broke the LED, £51 for the replacement bit from Nissan!
  9. I’ve used Megs’ Endurance for years, but just discovered AG spray-on stuff, which is so much less messy to apply. I don’t think it’s as durable as the Megs, though.
  10. I read it that switching the ‘other way’ is changing from from keyless to using the key to start the car.
  11. Mega thread revival!! Found out today that if I lower the driver’s side mirror when reversing, the passenger side one goes down as well. Ditto when raising it again. Select passenger side though and only that one moves. You live and learn...
  12. Ditto on my previous car (a Lexus) when I fitted a dashcam
  13. I’m sure it would be, but the AliExpress one would look (imho) so much nicer.
  14. I had a white 1979 Chrysler Sunbeam 1.0, basic spec, with tan vinyl upholstery as a company car! But passed my test in a Mk1 Cortina (bench seat and column change) in August 1964.
  15. I ‘tested’ the ACC braking today, coming down from about 40mph to rest, and it made me wonder if the ACC braking triggers the brake lights. And if so, at what point - gentle slowing down, or only when carrying out rapid deceleration? It’s a bit difficult to check while you’re driving, I found...
  16. And from just down the road in Tring...
  17. I’ve only tried a speed limiter once, on a Mercedes I leased, and tbh it felt so unsafe, as if I had handed over control of the car. Each to his own, I suppose! But why not use the ‘warning at’ feature? Isn’t this in effect a passive speed limiter? According to the manual it gives an audible warning when a preset speed is exceeded, although I’ve never tried to find out....
  18. My method is to loosen dirt with plenty of water from the hose on ‘shower’, then the two bucket method of contact shampoo washing with a Meguiars washing mitt. Then rinse again, and dry with a microfibre cloth. (Ditch the sponge and chammy leather). I use Meguiars Last Touch (a quick detailer) as a drying aid, but every second or third wash substitute AG Aqua wax for the LT.
  19. It seems that most ‘compressor’ tyre inflators come with a plug to fit a ciggy type 12v socket, tbh I’ve never given it a thought not to use mine in this way, over many years, and in several cars.
  20. You don’t see many cyclists continuing to pedal when going downhill, but presumably this part of the code applies to them as well? (Maybe posted in jest, but with a modicum of questioning)
  21. It’s a Novotel A118/B40, it has very small screen - no need for anything bigger IMO - with the cable hidden by the triangular bit of the casing. Admittedly it is quite old, I bought it in 2015 for my Lexus, as it matched the windscreen sensor’s shroud. The Skoda is the 3rd car it’s been in. Each time I’ve used a piggyback fuse (this allows the selection of either switched or constant live supply to suit the camera) and an inline trailing ciggy socket, which accepts the camera’s own plug, which is hidden behind the dashboard. I reckon this is cheaper than buying a separate hardwire kit, and just as easy. HTH
  22. This is mine, tucked up behind the mirror on the passenger side, so I can’t see the screen when I’m driving. (apologies for the pic quality, it’s pitch dark outside, and for some reason it’s turned through 90deg))
  23. That’s fine if all the wiring is hidden, I just hate visible cabling, whether it’s in the car or home. That’s why mine is hardwired, with not even a few mmm of wire to be seen. OTT? Maybe...😀
  24. Re Paul52’s reply, I was extremely glad I’d bought an aftermarket extended warranty for my previous car, and, like Paul’s, IT WAS A VOLVO!! (A D3 diesel C70, if anyone’s interested.) Regular dropping to limp mode, and without going into details, the first bill was £1300, then a £400+ bill, the final straw - including turbo rebuild - being £2200. Not completely covered by the warranty, as there was a limited amount per claim, but the claim amount softened the blows considerably. At £229 pa premium, I was well in pocket...
