I did a shock change this morning and had same problem with seized pinch bolt, smacking it with a hammer didn't do anything ended up heating up with blow torch and using impact driver on the torx end manage it get it free.

1.5Tsi is the newer engine with ACT but the cambelt change is almost £1k. Nothing wrong with the 1.4Tsi and cambelt changes are much cheaper as it doesn't have complexity of ACT. I think earlier 1.5tsi had kangaroo issues when the engine was cold, so 1.4tsi probably more reliable option as any issues would have already been resolved on the facelifted model.

try using a gaint paper clip

It's a mechanical link connected to the sensor so if it is link is broken I don't think there will be any fault codes but the car will unable to determine the height of the car to adjust the headlights properly

Check the front and rear level sensors on the ns, as sometime the links break and cause the headlamps fail to adjust properly

I would also consider something like a Citigo, UP or Mii as they do 50 mpg easily and pretty cheap to run

depends if you want lower, if not try b6 shocks or if you wanted pair with lowering springs go for b8 shocks

It is two 18mm bolts and 3 nuts for the ball joint to drop the wishbone

You are suppose to get new bolts as they are stretch bolts but a lot folk and just reuse them.

Does your reverse lights come on when you select reverse, if not its a broken wire near the gearbox switch.

It might be worth checking if one side gets hotter than the other side after a drive as it might be a start of a seized caplier

Try Ebc discs not cheap but excellent quality and manufactured in UK.

I assume you mean 1,6 diesel, not much goes wrong mk2 diesel engines with regular annual servicing so if there is no service history just walk away. Guess other things to watch out for is when was the cambelt and water pump last changed, as if it hasn't been done you might be able to knock something off the price.

What engine are you going for?

Halfords 18" breaker bar is the perfect length as it just fits in under the wheel arch to provide you with enough leverage. I've done a couple on the drive so it is doable but only with the correct length of breaker bar.

You should be able to do it on your drive with right tools, halfords breaker bar and m14 1/2 socket are perfect for the job
