  1. Just noticed it is face-lift model so more likely to have CR engine which is still a reliable engine.
  2. Good choice as you can't beat an old school PD engine as with annual oil changes they run forever, I got rid of my PD140 at 200k and it was still running strong.
  3. Try Kilen springs as i had good experience with them as you need ones specific to an estate as it sounds like you have either sport springs or saloon springs causing it to be too low.
  4. Has the cylinders been examined for bore scoring? as the 1.5tsi uses a special plasma coating on the cylinder walls and if that is damaged the engine is basically toast.
  5. If the springs are not badly corroded or sagging you could reuse them and put the funds towards b6 shocks. Mono tube will be superior compared to twin tube as it has digressive valving so it will feel stiff when cornering but soften up the faster you travel so it is still comfortable when cruising at higher speeds.
  6. I would go for B6 with stock springs if you don't want to lower but after a handling upgrade as they will be just slightly firmer at lower speeds but offer tigher control and faster rebound, when pushing on.
  7. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1015428070942022/?app=fbl Here's a interesting posting about using 0w 30 or even 5w 30 offering better protection for 1.5tsi engines compared to 0w 20 oil (See discussion for comments)
  8. As long as it meets vag spec it should be fine as vw use thinner oils for better mpg and 0w 30 will offer better protection at high temperatures compared 0w 20
  9. if they are original VAG wheels both alloys and steel wheels will use the same bolts so no need to buy different ones. You only need to be careful with after market alloys.
  10. worn piston rings? does it consume any oil?
  11. does the engine consume any oil between services? as thinking what would cause a cat to fail
  12. Just source something 2nd hand on ebay as plenty of breakers out there
  13. Here is a DIY guide for the oil separator replacement Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual - Removing and installing oil separator - Crankcase breather
  14. Yes was referring to breather valve. Glad it is all sorted now as sounds like the old parts were gummed up.
  15. I'm surprised they did not change the pvc valve too on top of the valve cover as the parts you mentioned is just an oil separator, that filters oil from the fumes so the oil drains back into the engine.
  16. Also worth checking out the piston rings as worn piston rings can also cause high oil consumption.
  17. Early EA211 1.4Tsi engines on the Mk3 had piston ring issues causing high oil consumption with age but this should have been sorted by now for the Mk4 as the piston rings were redesigned later to resolve the high oil consumption issues. The DSG box will be DQ400E, and require oil and filter change every 40k. Eco Torque performs full hybrid disassembly to replace filters, oil & settings.
  18. Pretty sure you can map out ACT as I've heard folk map out ACT when they get it remapped as it suppose to make it smoother. Probably need to speaker to a VAG tuner.
  19. Did you measure your old discs as I think 288mm looks too big in your picture as it is touching your brake carrier, which can't be right. I think you have FS3 Caliers which takes either 276mm or 280mm discs
  20. Can't comment on the codes but there is a MBQ gear linkage kit that replaces and upgrades the plastic bits on your gearbox linkages that causes imprecise shifting. It costs £110 including postage from Diesel Geek from US. https://dieselgeek.com/collections/vw-shifter-bushings/products/mk7-deluxe
  21. Here is a guide for 5 speed box but the principal is the same for 6 speed box.
  22. I would get the gearbox oil changed but use the proper 75w vw spec oil such as get the wrong oil the change will be notch when the box is cold https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-976-fuchs-titan-sintofluid-fe-sae-75w-synthetic-manual-transmission-oil.aspx Also try resetting the gearbox linkages and take it from there
  23. If you currently have 288mm discs you should be able to upgrade to 312mm discs by upgrading the carriers and just reuse your existing calipers
  24. It is also known that the MBQ manual gearbox has a lot of movements due to the use of plastics and upgrading the plastic pin to a diesel geek metal superpin helps.
  25. same problem with top bolts as one of them was badly corroded and decided to sieze. Ended up angle grinding them off. I'm sure I didn't have this much bother on mk2 octavia.
