Having owned a 2016 Superb with the 150PS petrol 1.4TSi ACT engine for 16,000 miles it's very good at what is designed to do namely sip petrol. Consistently gave me 50mpg and 700+ miles per tank with a best of 800 miles. What it is not is exciting and after your stage 1 diesel and all that torque you are used to the 1.4TSi will feel a little flat although it is a great little engine.

I doubt that but more likely to wear the clutch packs by doing hard launches something which I try to minimise with 360bhp and 514nm in my stage 1 Superb. Regarding economy I save a lot of fuel using Eco on my commute lifting for roundabouts and traffic lights and avoiding braking unless absolutely necessary.

Normally if you have a mode selection button and press Eco then whenever you lift off the throttle in my Superb the gearbox does go into neutral until you either press the brake pedal or the throttle when the DSG will select the most approriate gear for the speed you are travelling. Not sure if the Fabia has a drive mode or will go into this coasting function when in drive (D).

Back in the Superb today for 3 shifts over the Bank Holiday weekend and after driving the Karoq for a few days it soon reminds me how effortless the performance is in the big car. Yesterday we did our mini tour of the Peak District starting in Ashbourne, then stayed a couple of hours in Buxton where I bought my wife a nice dress which fitted her perfectly. Then it was onto Bakewell where Bikers were not acting very sensibly and one of them ended up coming off and blocking the road injured. Our final stop was Matlock where we stayed for 3 hours and it was our favourite walking place of the day in total we covered 8.4 miles on foot (19,800 paces) and from home it was 54 miles to Buxton and on the 19 miles to Matlock the Karoq averaged 58mpg which is not bad considering at one point we saw 1,318 feet above sea level. Best quote of the day from my wife was Derbyshire is like a big farm indicating the rural nature of the place. Total distance driven when we got home was 133 miles. All done on a quarter of a tank of petrol. Most remote pub we saw was the Cat & Fiddle which seemed miles from anywhere before you get to Buxton.

Nice to see VW have ditched the bonnet struts to help make it safer when you collide with pedestrians. Infotainment and the new steering wheel buttons look a step backwards. Only improvement looks to be the DCC.

I had the same issue trying to deploy 380lb/ft in my stage 2 Octavia Vrs245 so I can understand why with only 336lb/ft he found it a bit unruly.

Although I'm afraid of heights when I was about 24 I thought it was a good idea to throw myself out of a small aircraft which wasn't going to crash anytime soon with just a parachute for company and after counting to five thousand......slowly......a miracle occurred and the parachute did what it was designed to do and slowed my descent from 2,000 feet. Floating down was a beautiful experience and I even remembered to do a nice roll on landing to avoid snapping any bones. Would I do it again? Probably not.

Perhaps the person that taught you was a getaway driver and needed a swift departure on their day job. In 1983 when I passed my test first time it was normal practice to put the car in neutral if a manual and apply the handbrake. My DSG gets put into park and then electric handbrake button engaged.

Having just checked 81 Superb's for sale in the Marshalls Skoda Group not one was in Dragon but Milton Keynes has 4 or 5 between £21,000-£25,000. Not sure if that is too much but some have high spec. From a personal point there is only one 272 out of the 81 for sale at £29,000 with 6,400 miles on the clock which makes my 4,900 mile example seem an absolute bargain last December at £23,840.

If you can bag a 4WD version either diesel or petrol as the traction is always welcome and having met you and talked to you it wouldn't be long before you remap your Superb from a 185bhp (150 diesel) to a 360bhp (272/280). Two favourite things on my car are the electric boot and blind spot monitoring. The rear traffic assist came to my rescue (didn't know my car had it) recently also but like you I bought on budget (under £24,000 for me) and Black Magic was not my first choice (Dragon would have been perfect) and the 7 speed DSG has been a revelation to me as a lifetime fan of manual cars. If you count there are 16 lines on the fuel gauge 4 per quarter tank. There are approximately 4 litres of fuel per line and when you reach the red zone you have used about 60 litres of the 66 litre stated capacity. However like most owners if you keep filling the neck you may be able to squeeze in as much as 71 litres. Most I have put in my 272 hatch was 67.5 litres with 5 miles of range left indicated.

My best for my Superb 272 hatch when standard was 45.9mpg (283bhp/369nm) yet best after the remap was 49.3mpg (360bhp/514nm). Skoda claim my 7 speed DSG car which weighs 1,660kg should average 39.8mpg and after 7,300 miles in 8 months I have actually averaged 39.5mpg. Remap cost me £450 and was worth every penny. 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and 0-100mph in 10.5 seconds is fast enough.

Thankfully the weather has improved considerably today for my last shift until Sunday and to reflect that got an impressive 60.1mpg on tonight's commute, the best so far since putting the 19" Vega's on with the super wide 235 steamroller tyres. Just compare that to Mrs shy's 4 mile home visit earlier which she managed a spirited 22mpg. Just as well she can claim 45 pence per mile off the Council in expenses. Even though it has half a tank left will fill up in the morning ahead of our expedition to the Peak District on my rest days.

Should NEVER have different tyres on different axles. Either fit 4 summer, 4 winter or 4 all season tyres because any combination is dangerous for you, your family and other road users.

Someone said they didn't like their electric boot. If they have front sensors then perhaps you can both swap cars and both parties will be happy.

Halfway through my 6 commutes in the Karoq and the bad weather (storm Francis) has had a dramatic effect on my usual 50+mpg return. Started well in calmer weather with a 57.8mpg but today in strong winds and torrential rain only managed 47.7 and 49.1mpg.

Weather was biblical here in the Midlands at 6am on the way home. After being up for 22 hours I could have done without the spray overtaking the lorries in the wife's Karoq and slight aquaplaning at 70mph thanks to the 235/40R19 summer tyres.
