What I find bizarre is I get the top of the range Columbus infotainment system but no reversing camera as standard. A strange omission on a 2019 car that cost £39,000 new when our other car a Skoda Karoq SEL has a reversing camera plus front/rear parking sensors as standard and it was £25,000 including metallic paint (before discount) in January 2018.

You appear to have posted this in the Octavia Mk3 section instead of the Superb Mk3 section?

Remember a couple of instances when owning a BMW 325i Coupe between 1994-1997 when I only had 199bhp and 195lbft (no turbo of course) and a 6,500rpm redline with a 5 speed manual gearbox and maximum speed of 144mph I would encounter either a whale tail Sierra Cosworth or an Escort Cosworth and both Ford drivers would have to put me in my place with their superior 2.0 litre turbo cars but my modified BM had a lot of track day mods such as suspension and brakes so although it may have been relatively slow in acceleration (0-60mph was 7.2 seconds and 0-100mph took 19.2 seconds) it made up for it with later braking and higher cornering speeds so what you lost on the straights you gained on the twisty bits. My current Superb would destroy those old Ford's now such has been the improvement since 1987 (Sierra) and 1992 (Escort).

Wife is getting better, 2009 Kia Picanto, 2015 Rapid Spaceback and 2016 my Superb (argument with static multi-storey car park pillar). The car was too big for the parking space apparently.

Since early 2019 all new Skoda's have the same issue from the factory it seems it may be linked to the WLTP emissions regulations introduced from September 2018. Blame the EU for this change.

You're right the 280/272 share engine/gearbox, turbo (IS38) and brakes with the Golf R. Mine has done 12,200 miles and due the first service around December with 17,000 miles at 21 months old.

I've changed 3 cars after the wife crashed them and although they were repaired to a high standard it still bothered me when I washed them. She doesn't drive the beast now because I really like it and don't want to risk the same happening again.

Been running a stage 1 map on my 272 hatch since Feb 2020 and fuel consumption keeps improving now at 39.5mpg overall after 7,300 miles since I bought it 8 months ago. My car new (Sportline Plus) would have been £39,000 before any discount yet I paid just £23,840 from a Skoda dealer and £450 for the remap and it's very fast but cheap to run as road tax will be £150 when I renew in December. Mine had just 4,900 miles on the clock direct from Skoda UK Milton Keynes and has been 100% reliable.

Just reading press release the Sportback starts at £37,900 and the saloon £38,465 with a slightly bigger 370 litre boot (both too small when you're used to a hatch with 625 litres)

Back in the Superb tomorrow for my 3 day shifts and something special should happen on Saturday (tune in to find out). We have decided to do a mini tour of the Peak District in deepest darkest Derbyshire over the Bank Holiday weekend but give the Superb a rest and take the Karoq for it's first decent length drive since February and it has only covered 4,000 miles so far this year. Should like to show wife Buxton and Matlock which I explored as a young cyclist with my brother around 40 years ago. Probably not changed that much TBH.

Since April 2017 the new taxation system has become very silly. For example my 1,660kg Superb has an official co2 level of 161gm/km and is supposed to average 39.8mpg on the old NEDC testing scheme. It actually averages 39.5mpg so quite close suggesting co2 near to the 161gm on my V5C form. The wife's Karoq which produces over 200bhp less and weighs 300kg less has an official 126gm/km (NEDC) but despite it should average 51mpg due to the many short journeys it does the reality is more like 45mpg making the actual co2/km figure more than 10% higher at around 139gm/km. When I bought both cars in 2018 and 2019 the VED on both was £145 but will increase to £150 for the next 12 months.

Imagine if there was a Kayak on the roof instead of the roofbox. Karoq carries Kayak and Seahorse.

So in conclusion the more you spend on your car the more disappointed you are likely to be as Land Rovers and Tesla's are not cheap brands.

That was the plan then I got impulsive and put the Vega's on the wife's SEL Karoq. Will take her 3 years to wear out the tyres so hope you are patient and can wait that long.

Perhaps the gauze has never been removed and cleaned properly (dealers tend to just change the oil) and gunk builds up inhibiting the flow of oil. Been mentioned on here loads of times. Simple enough for them just take out a couple of screws on the pump housing then rinse and put back. One chap on here was charged just £7 extra for his dealer to do this very recently IIRC.

When I swapped the Vega/Bridgestones for the RS6/Michelins the aftermarket ones seemed lighter combo which is something @newbie69 has commented on before regarding factory wheel/tyre weights.

Well mine was 1,660kg with a boot full of work gear, full fuel tank and spare/tool kit onboard. Think I could get it down to 1,600kg for a track day or Santa Pod just by emptying the boot and having a quarter of a tank (approx 16 litres of fuel). At least 25kg less than your Bells and Whistles model (top spec adds weight).

True made of steel with a 125mm wide tyre good for 80kph (50mph).

Boot full of work gear plus spare wheel and tool kit.

I think extra weight helps with coasting. Weighed my Superb 272 on a weighbridge earlier today and it was 1,660kg with a full tank of fuel and that helps when in Eco and coasting upto roundabouts and traffic lights because it slows gradually while only ticking over at 800rpm even at 70mph on the motorway. All those small savings add up. Last tank was 535 miles at 39.99mpg not bad for a big, heavy DSG 4x4 with 360bhp.
