If you give it a gentle tap on the leading edge of the bonnet on the driver's side with a sledge hammer you will have a matching pair of bonnet power bulges like a Ford Mustang and it may improve the aerodynamic efficiency as a bonus.

I would imagine it alternates between cylinders 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 to even out any wear and tear on the cylinder bores. When the 2 cylinders are shut off you can feel a slight jolt through the accelerator pedal as the fuel is cut off and the car switches from 1.5 litres to effectively 0.75 litres like a 2 cylinder motorbike engine. Eco mode is nothing to do with activating it as you can still drive around town in 2nd or 3rd gear in our manual Karoq on 2 cylinders as long as you have a minimum 1,400rpm (to prevent any engine damage) from the engine.

Active Cylinder Technology. When above 1,400rpm on a light throttle (not accelerating or going uphill) the ACT will shut down 2 of the 4 cylinders to save fuel and reduce emissions. It works in all driving modes including Sport. You can't switch it off.

We have had this engine for 30 months and more than 26,000 miles in a Karoq and both drive it a leisurely style changing up early at around 2,000rpm but if the mood takes you it will sing upto 7,000rpm in the lower gears. Having also owned the 2.0 litre 150bhp diesel in the Mk3 Octavia I know what you mean about the torque difference as the diesel produced 246lb'ft when standard and a might 317lb/ft with a remap. Best economy from the diesel was 71mpg and 66mpg with the 1.5TSi petrol.

Only works with DSG equipped cars in Eco mode. If you are going downhill on a motorway for example and lift off the throttle the DSG ECU will put the gearbox into neutral therefore dropping revs in my car from 2,000rpm at 70mph to just 800rpm therefore saving fuel. Note if you use ACC the coasting function won't work.

Wife now works from home so doesn't use her Karoq as much as she used to so my mileage is split 162 miles in the Superb and 162 miles in the Karoq. I get over 50mpg in the Karoq (148bhp petrol) on every commute. Before I join the motorway driving the Superb I'm only getting 26mpg in 30/40/50mph speed limit roads (5 miles).

I have great control over the loud pedal. Commuting 54 miles per day pays to drive in a frugal manner.

Yes I like the coasting function when you lift off that drops the revs to about idle (800rpm) but on the M6 I used ACC and climate control was on. Set the ACC to 61mph which is quite slow as we set off early and when we reached the Hotel our room hadn't been cleaned and we were told it would take another 2 hours so went for a short walk of 13.5 miles (21.6km). If you need to overtake the 514nm of torque at 2,800rpm gives plenty of go even in Eco mode. I find Sport a bit Banzai now I am 55 years old. Best saved for track days.

That wasn't the case with our manual 1.5TSi Karoq which managed a best of 63mpg from factory and 66mpg after the software fix.
