  1. I've kitted mine out with LEDs from same place, as given good reviews on here. No problems to date.
  2. I always keep to a maxim from an old electronics mag( replacing Hong Kong with China) All things from Hong Kong, all too often tend to go wrong. I'd sooner pay a bit more for UK electronics than chance Chinese.
  3. Thanks JR, my thoughts, but I hoped someone would know. I know that no alarm comes up with one incandescent lamp out, so I'd suggest that a minimum of 21w ( approx 2A @ 12v) will do. To limit current to 2A @ 12v, I'll need a resistor of circa 6 ohms @ (2x2x6) = 24w. Seems like a rather large resistor, so I might look at an electronic solution/ put up with status quo. If my electronic calcs are still working. Pete, LED are far more reliable. Rail signal heads have replaced incandescent for LED and lamps in other safety critical systems for a lot of years.
  4. If similar handbrake cable run to mine, I had a problem with a metal clip securing cable outer to radius arm. There was a small mark on the outer, but when taken off the inner was stuck. I found that I had to replace both cables to get balance correct. AFAIK the Vrs has a separate drum setup for the handbrake. If adjustment of shoes is similar, I found that the adjustors can stick in the up position and need a bit of help to get moving
  5. Stewart- I damaged one( cable clip) replacing the cable and used a cable tie on the rear arm. I asked MOT bloke if this was Ok. His reply" it's secure, so I haven't bothered replacing it,but the old clips can be recyled. My repairs were to MK1 fabia.
  6. OK, I am aware of how the brake light circuit works. Brake light switch has two elements. One circuit completes a circuit to operate lear brake lights whilst other breaks a loop to ECU. Failure of other sets up fault condition. I've now got tired of a drop off in car lamp quality so I'm gradually replacing all non halogen lamps with LED. So I replaced both brake lamps with LED, and. LO, I got the flashing Glo plug alarm. First step, go back to pre change. After a few minutes, alarm had reset. Next question is that with one lamp failed, no alarm is given. So has anyone any idea of current fail threshold, as if I want to use LED brake lamps, then I will have to provide a shunt on the LED and need to work out resistance value and wattage.
  7. On the +12 side of bulb holder chec ( with DVM) that you have circa 12v going to holder( - side of meter to good earth/ battery neg), + side of meter to holder. Then Check out of negative side of holder with meter positive. Reading should be zero. Check bulb and if good fault is elsewhere. But if negative side of holder shows voltage, then set meter to amps( high steering) and check for a current of approx .5A and lamp lighting. If so, try pplying good earth to negative side of holder as I'd suggest that holder earth is dodgy.
  8. Bit late to party, but have a look on https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forums/forum It's manned by white goods engineers who repair white goods. You will have to register and quote make/ model etc, but these blokes can be helpfull
  9. AP, from our local tip, it's who not what you know. Looking at your interest in98, for FE I got a registry hack for either using large memory or HDD larger than a set size.Possibly both, but there on my store HDD, although I seem to rember that one is a program and the other a registry fix.
  10. CM -not trying to teach granny about eggs, but I sort of drifted into CAT wiring , helping very experienced Bloks on install, and picked up a few tricks of trade. ong time since I did any CAT installs and that was all factory units. In that time we never came across runs getting close to 60metre. But something not everyone knows( Id expect practice still continues) in that rolls/ buses of CAT5 had distance markings on the sheath. We simply wrote starting measure on box to ensure we did not exceed spec, and gave each cable a number to save confusion. I would expect later CAT are twisted pair. Trick is to keep twists as close to termination point to cut back on crosstalk. There is also a recommendation about parallel runs close to mains wiring, but that went years ago. For testing there's a simple GO/No go tester available. Plug it in at hub and check at socket
  11. As earlier post, I found that one cable had corroded. Changed cable and as temporary measure cable tied cable to rear arm. Mot man was happy with that. But the clips can be opened and repaired.I left cable tie in position as it does not corrode and cause problems
  12. Steve- you may also need a WIFI analyser to check if there's a network causing problems.
  13. I'll put this in here to stop creating a new post, but the other day I say a Yeti with a new style badge. Looked nice. Is the way forward?
  14. BAA BERA has no road sense as we found in the west Highlands. A nice warm road on a cold night and she'll be hogging the heat n the night. Not nice in sub zero conditions.
  15. I had similar problem a few years ago. I just entered VRN into both ECP and a few other sites and picked the one with best discount/ lower price. But make certain you snap the ends into the ball joints as if not then they will come out( as I found out)
  16. Reminds me of life in times of old in a Highland Village. One of our local Bank Managers wife first had a Hillman Imp, which she managed to destroy the engine on by ignoring the oil light on a 45 mile drive. Next car ( in true bank manager fashion) was a Rover 2000 . Every Sunday I saw him out polishing it . But Our village was in "crofting country" where sheep had precedence over other things like cars. ( In truth ,the only car I saw come off best with a sheep was the bigger version of a Moggy 1000, driven by ,I suspect ,a truck farmer on way home from Sunday drink session). It was like sheep pinball. Back to tale. One Sunday Bank manager had finished his weekly routine of washing/waxing and polishing his Rover, and along came a Ram, spotted it's reflection in the mirror finish of the Rover and it was then "Wham, bang, thank you reflection" and rover had a nice set of horn prints on the driver side . Dogs also were not safe. It's not the first time I've seen a terrier being rolled down the road by a ram . Gardens, we found that with a four foot fence, that what was needed was a border on the fence of some yellow plant.

Ken, I'd be happy with XP(as in your version), but the engineer in me wants more. I was happily running a Gigabyte board with W10 and XP til my son gave me an iNTEL 5 board with an I5. His old board had crashed and ( as dads do ) I'd bought him a board off e bay. When he bought a new set up he gave me the old.new board back. But new board wont run XP or even W7. I like the speed of the I5 on W10, but miss the things I can do on W7 .

AND if you don't game???? I remember my last progressive firm held back ( according to our IT blokes) to see that the latest Windows & Office office offerings from MS were secure. I personally wait for SP1/2 on a new MS offering before I upgrade, and with the latest motherboard upgrades, I think I'll wait a bit more. Something Gates might look at .
  19. Safest way to add new wiring to fusebox is to use an adaptor, which plugs into place of existing fuse and lets you supply both circuits from two fuses but keeps both circuits separately fused. And more importantly lets existing circuit retain existing wiring and fuse protection. It's the car equivalent of adding a low current spur to a ring main in a house. This add from Ebay shows what I mean. Althoughsimilar items are available from other suppliers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114341271121?hash=item1a9f455651:g:NwQAAOSwFHFfK4V6&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8NWzLMB%2Bih2DeLxelmdKjp8ORQJwCf9tE%2F5oa4Libjno11kXnPRmx76Q%2F9ffOnwsw3Sxa1Qiz2MswCiCNjD3CHyDe7GiwMhrCQICEz3hLY94lAvX%2BOeiP8%2Bf1XnG4lreeICKEwCERqLHn3u4Auo2%2B3ym6uEPGut1xC9NmnS%2B2xTDyBPJuLo%2F6AVQkUnE9PrjfBIfCf2GRYT6qmYEDz8zdxzT33Sojb9Iu3nwrRuIxh4qhGyTtEZGLEH2MFKBU4NuP9Qjrmrut9CmoxUrMO%2FpRzZSfy%2BhDhjc7WEo12%2Fwcc5p%2BPPStoALvM1aOrGJx6qAnQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM_tLntt1g
  20. op- My Furby is 2004 and till recently on disconnecting /reconnecting battery no problems with radio. But looking Audio manual , I believe there is a set proceedure to follow to let car & radio talk to each other. I haven't bothered recently, but I've got radio code stuck to my Audio manual, so I can reset code manually, if I don't get it right. Possibly there is a battery in radio to retain comms and my battery is geriatric( like owner ) and suffering from amnesia due to old age ??

i;ve got a golden oldie 2004 Furby, and on mine, the radio code is held in the ECU, and there is no need to recode radio after battery removal/disconnection. Perhaps a read of the manual will make things clear???
  22. Ken, pity one of previous owners did not know this, although an FD2000 fitted with a ventura servo+ master cylinder)properly adjusted) and fitted with larger tread tyres stopped remarkably fast. And the performance in snow (with large tread tyres, and an arch or two full of snow) made it a remarkable vehicle. Like a tractor, with the engine power. Main problem on older models was the oil pump, mounted under the distributor where if the seals were poor, could mean a distributor with oil in/on points. I solved this with a new oil pump and a home built electronic ignition system, along with an engine rebuild.
  23. KEN/JR long time since I played /had to play with servo outputs. And again, I never actually had a Ventura of FD class, and Haynes Victor FD manual only mentioned 1600/2000 so my recollections are from lots of years ago. I only know of the Ventura AS one previous owner could not tell the difference between the engine size./ car spec and fitted a few Ventura parts to the Victor. But a Victor 2000 married to a 1600 gearbox was something to worry the boy racers, but not good on fuel.
  24. gsmdo- the Vauxhall as in photo came in three flavors. One was a mild mannered 1600cc model. Then there was the 2000 cc model and last was the Ventura at possibly 3litre/3.5 litre. I owned a 2litre model, which had had the servo + master cylinder replaced from a Ventura. First problem was brake fluid leaking into servo from master cylinder seals. ( cue- white smoke from exhaust on braking, and loss of brake fluid ). Next problem was "mal adjustment" of the servo linkage, which after replacement of master cylinder caused brakes to hold on. On of the other problems on this last version of the Bedford power unit was the distributor ,which was mounted on top of the oil pump. Bad seals on the distributor /oil pump meant that the distributor could get oil flooded and cause ignition problems.
  25. One other thing to look out for on cars that have adjustable servo rods is that some previous owner has "adjusted" the link, and the servo comes-in and holds on. After I had problems on the Vauxhall with a leaky master cylinder, I found I then had a linkage problem. In truth this was because someone had replaced the servo + master cylinder on a Victor 2000 with the servo and master cylinder from a Victor etc larger engine vehicle. But once I'd sorted out the servo problems ,this 2000 model stopped very well .
