Fabia 1.4tdi 80bhp question
Folks had the 1.9tdi pd engine (AXR I think) on a late MK1 fabia estate and it was fantastic. No DPF and loads of power/torque. Never gave them any trouble at all plus 60mpg plus. I also have a 1.9tdi pd octavia and a 1.9tdi pd Seat with the BXE engine. both have never caused me any problems and no DPF on either. Get 50-60mpg The fabia and octavia etc 1.9tdi are also brilliant for towing. Alasdair

Wheel Bolt Torque
My octavia is 120nm and I think from memory its the same for the fabia. I usually put a bit of copper grease on them. Alasdair

MKII Scout, high speed wobble and a question about suspension. please help me before I do a Basil Fawlty and thrash it with a tree branch.
Might be worth checking top mounts as well as lower bushes etc, Can't think of any other reason it would be pushed back unless its normal for the scout.

Mine is a FWD mk2 1.6tdi 12 plate and the front wheel is in centre not back like yours. Not sure if the scout is different but you may be onto something there. Alasdair

Subframe engine support bush removal and refitting
As previous posts trying to track down weird wobble from car. Only when accelerating. Have checked upper engine/gearbox mounts and there good. Bottom dogbone mount is also good but I have seen online that there are lower mounting bushes in subframe. Can you replace them without subframe removal and if so is it a difficult job and do I need a special bush removal/insert tool Picture for reference. I would be buying decent bushes

Engine number location (Octavia Mk2, engine CEGA/CEG)
Yep TDI cover. It pulls upwards. There are 4 ball like push in fixings that pop in and out when lifting. Think you lift the front first from memory Alasdair Try and lift cover as near the push fixings as possible. They can be quite tight and can snap if old and brittle. Be firm but careful

My 1.6tdi is doing the same between 40-60mh. Slightly worse on corners I think. difficult to pin down. Have noticed its only present on mine when accelerating. If I stop accelerating say at 50mph and stick at 50mph its not there so reckon I can rule out tyres etc. As you said I also have no vibration or movement in steering wheel but the wobble feeling is felt through the seat. Have been pointed in the direction of injector misbehaving under load but no fault codes or warnig lights. Will be following this to see if there is an outcome. Its got me stumped. The only thing I can think of is failing engine mount/gearbox mounts but they look like new Alasdair

Car wobble/judder between 30mph and 50mph. Cant get to the bottom of it!!
Thanks for reply, Doesn't sound or feel like a misfire. No fault codes or warning lights on and car seems fine below 30 and above 60mph. Car has excellent power and acceleration. No hesitation at all and seems to run smooth . It happens even at slight gentle accelaration say between 40 and 50mph on a level road, The minute you stop accelerating say at 50mph and cruise at that speed it disappears. Accelerate again and it comes back till you hit about 60-70mph and its fine above that I did think of dmf as it goes when the clutch is depressed as well but no sounds/rattle from gearbox area and no rattles or judders when taking off from stationary. Its a 1.6tdi and have read there bad on injectors so will look into it further but as no codes wouldnt know where to start. Alasdair

Any idea where to buy a front vRS bumper?
A few on ebay but UK not slovenia. Not sure if you have anything like https://www.breakerlink.com or similar Put in the part you need and they contact various car breakers and you get quotes through email. Used it a couple of times for random parts like bell housing etc. Alasdair

Car wobble/judder between 30mph and 50mph. Cant get to the bottom of it!!
Hi have had this problem for a while and can't solve/diagnose it Skoda 1.6tdi 12 plate that judders and wobbles when driving between 30 and 50mph. Its not felt through the steering wheel like an unbalanced wheel but you feel it through the seat. When sitting at a steady speed anywhere between 30 and 60 there is no juddering but when you are accelerating within 30-60 its there and when you stop accelerating it goes away. Feels like someone is shaking the seat from side to side. Checked bushes ball joints etc and all fine apart from some drop links that I have to replace. Fitted new bearing yesterday as it was getting pretty noisy but again no change. As far as I can tell drive shafts are good apart from very slight play if you grab the drivers one and try to rotate it back and forward It moves by 1mm but no clicking or rumbling from cv joints. Its also not really noticeable between 60mph and 90mph. Also no rattle or sounds from clutch/flywheel area Did think of tyre that was mishapen/wheel damaged but it would be there all the time and not just when accelerating. Any help most welcome. Alasdair

Not starting
Main fuses as far as I know are in engine compartment in front of battery although there may be a master fuse elswhere. I would put a meter across battery to check its still charged if you suspect fuses. It could very well be the battery itself. Sons was fine in the morning drove around town and started stopped a few times but when he came back it was totaly dead. Battery had failed and obviously wasn't taking charge although no battery light on. Got a new battery and its been fine since. AA were called out and the guy reckond a cell or perhaps two had failed.

What Tyres for Skoda Fabia 2016
My son has a mk1 fabia and I fitted GT radial all seaon for him. Have driven it myself and its got really good grip and braking in the wet plus good in snow too. Mid range so £75-00 each fitted and they had a promo so if it was ordered online you got £30 off for four. Have the summer version on my old Skoda octavia and Seat and can't fault them. Alasdair

Large oil consumption. 1,5L 1000km. 10W-40 ?
Wonder where its going? at that level I reckon it would be smoking and exhaust would be black unless its been dumped into intercooler or pipes? Hope you sort it. One thing is at the rate your losing it you would only have to change filter. Reckon oil is getting changed automatically

Is the car actually burning it? If your going through 1.5litr every 1000 mile I reckon it would be smoking like a chimney. If its not bad check the engine undertray for oil. It can collect there and then drop onto road when driving. A compression test is a good idea and use the correct oil. Alasdair

A fine addition to my collection
Mates got one and he always fits decent tyres to the front . 115hp diesel to VRS is similar from going from a volvo940 to an 850 T5. Have fun Alasdair

Octavia front hub nut torque urgent help.
Had a drum brake fail and lock up on my old Merc van when doing 60mph. Not pleasant at all and yes Code Brown is a good description. Wakes you up better than red bull though. Alasdair

ABS sensor removal. Any tips?
I use toolstation AC90 (wd40) but found RP90 (rapid penetrating oil is very good if you leave it to soak) and a little bit of heat. Shame the abs sensor is plastic. As said mine was not coming out in one piece Alasdair

Octavia front hub nut torque urgent help.
Yes thats whats happened to three of mine. No play just really loud. Was worried it would total itself while driving. Have heard of them seizing solid which isn't good especially if your doing 70mph Alasdair

Octavia front hub nut torque urgent help.
Many thanks, Car back on road and running perfect. The old bearing didn't seem too bad. No play at all. It had a slight hum/rumble a few days ago but yesterday became very loud so thought it better to change it rather than risk it till Monday. Alasdair

A fine addition to my collection
rear wiper is a very common fault. I have had 4 go on me in the last few years and its always been water getting in and the gears/motor seizing. At least there fairly simple to replace. If all thats wrong is the wiper and door reckon you got a bargain. There great fun to drive but you can go through front tyres pretty quickly when you are having fun. Alasdair

ABS sensor removal. Any tips?
Thanks for reply. Mine was so rusted in it just wouldn't come out without snapping. Soaked in wd40 for a few days but no joy. I had bought a new one in case which was only £7-00. Just wondering if there was a way to remove them next time if I am stuck for a replacement. Judging by the bearing and sensor I reckon they could be original so been on for 120k and 10years. I could tap the old bit out as I was changing the bearing anyway. Problem would be if the sensor failed and I snapped it and had to remove bearing to get broken bit out. Alasdair

Torque spec front and rear subframe and everything connected? Octy 4x4
Fair play to working on BMW. My son in law had an old 530i and everything on it seemed to be seized solid and snap. He kept it for about 2 month gave up and sold it for parts. Pity it was some car. Straight 6 cylinder 3liter and it used to shift. Saying that it had been lowered and had stretch tyres on it and a ridiculous exhaust so he kept getting pulled over. He reckons it had markers on it from previous owner for drifting/antisocial behaviour plus it was gold and windows were so tinted they looked black Hope all goes well with the subframes Alasdair

Torque spec front and rear subframe and everything connected? Octy 4x4
Hope so. Remember to check what bolts have to be replaced and not reused. If there very rusty then spray with penetrating oil etc and repeat over a few days. I bought a plumbers map gas torch with a small burner head to give them a bit of heat. Its more precise than the larger ones I also use a plumbers heat pad behind to protect paint/wiring/plastic Alasdair
