  1. It's been an education reading others experiences over a long period, learning of those for whom it was a mistake and who are moving back to IC powered vehicles, the more vehicles there are fighting for limited charging points and the massive increases in domestic electric prices will have changed the economics for those on the fence. I am once again having visits from infirmière à domiciles (having restarted the work that put me in hospital the bio-hazard has decided to take residence in my lungs this time ) I noted that many of them are driving new or newish EV's, they typically visit 40-60 patients a day within a close radius of their home, they can easily recharge if need be in the obligatory 2 hour lunch break, they get paid maybe €10-14 each visit, fuel and vehicle purchase & repairs are their major expense, the one today was driving a VW ID something, she says she is saving €500 a month with it. It could be that her comparison was with when diesel was at its highest price, had France not renationalised EDF and allowed the electricty prices to be dictated by market forces like other countries then she would probably now be worse off with her EV.
  2. He didn't persuade anyone, he just followed his nose in deciding what side would be victorious and who to align himself with. If you still need someone to hate and blame after all this time why not choose Cameron? He got away Scot free with walking away from his responsabilities.
  3. So are you saying if you take out PCP on a £24K vehicle paying £5K up front then 3 years of £350 per month the final ballon payment would be £6400? And that is fixed at the start of the deal and will not change? That you can pay the baloon payment and own the vehicle or you can walk away? And that in normal times the vehicle would be worth £18000 at the end of the 4 year period but in the current market a lot more? Sorry to have used 4 years instead of 3, it made the maths easier for me! Where does mileage and condition come into the equation?
  4. Cut slots in them with a 1mm angle grinder disc if there is room or use a similar attachment in a Dremel type multi-tool then use a flat blade screwdriver.
  5. Work on your people skills and it will be forthcoming.
  6. @toot I liked the final paragraphs of the "Destination charging etiquette" but I would like for you to rewrite them using your sentiments in the matter as it seems appealing to selfish people to be "polite" fails so the message should be written in terms they understand!
  7. @EnterName I'm glad it was not just me confused, thanks for marking up the graphs with P and T, that makes sense now although not in a visual way to show both power and torque in the same colour without any annotations. Like you it was not seeing 2 curves crossing at the same point which alerted me, I dont follow the logic that if the RH torque scale would change thet they would both cross at the same point as both curves would change not just one. Watch carefully their facial reactions, my experience in the past of tuners is that they certainly have a good feel for what they are doing but often do not understand the physics and can start waffling or become defensive when you try to discuss the subject. I reckon the guy may not know how to read a graph.
  8. Agreed but you can make the needle go through its full sweep several times which might dislodge it, you could also program a needle sweep on switch on to keep it free.
  9. Its called "indicator celebration" on my VCDS! They must employ a huge department of people to make up random terms and units which bear no resemblance to anything in the real world. Even the times & dates of the fault codes are gibberish, 06-47- 2053 at 29.63 was my last one 🥴 When I have tried looking for oil ash mass I have to look through thousands of variables, many duplicating each others description, 99% of them have no values so are probably for a different vehicle, I was very late to learn there is a search function but its of no use when they wont call a spade a spade.
  10. Pleased to say that I have read each posting and other than thinking it must be about recording films or TV programs I do not have a clue what any of the acronyms mean! Respect to those of you that do though.
  11. £1500 for a new unit is not plausible.
  12. They dont want to work on Taxis AKA one or more taxi drivers gave them the hump!!! TPS on the other hand love taxi drivers, they may have to refuse serving the public due to planning restrictions and they too probably have been peed off with Mr Ploppys wanting to buy rubber mats and tartan rugs but they Lurv taxi drivers!!! They used to sell to me using the account name "Generic counter sales" now it is "Generic Taxi" 😄
  13. How much more did a 4wd variant of the Yeti or Octavia cost in the day? I bet it was not £4K+
  14. That didn't last long!
  15. But how much have you paid out over the last 4 years? I have never leased or long term rented a vehicle so know nothing but from an investment standpoint 50% does not seem off beam.
  16. Yes, output tests are what the name says, you can open the windows, test the heater fan, door locks etc etc, you can also actuate the EGR and throttle body. I would also run an output test on the fuel pump as this could be another suspect for a connection being shaken up or a wire broken.
  17. Output tests will have one to actuate the throttle valve.
  18. You might well find a set of 16" steel winter wheels cheaply, heck I have a set which need new tyres in the North of France going free but unless the stars are aligned I doubt it will happen, they are VAG wheels and have a genuine set of Skoda wheeltrims in great condition. Given the likelyhood of further impacts then 16" steel wheels with high profile tyres might be the way forward. I quite like the look of my car on black steel rims and for the new set of winter rims (which frankly here in Perigord I dont need) I have some nice black multi-spoked wheel trims.
  19. Our posts overlapped, that has made it clearer to me now, must be very weak to have deformed twice without any damage to the outer rim and in at least one case no tyre damage.
  20. OK, I understand what you mean by peening marks now. They must be very weak inner rim sections for it to have bent twice but leaving no witness marks on the outer rim, cast alloy fracures easily with deformation, I'm surprised that it was straightened once without cracking and being weakened, a 2nd time would really be tempting fate. Have you had the tyre checked for damage? How long have you owned the vehicle? Could it be that the damage to the inner rim was already there and the peen marks were someones failed attempts to straighten it? After all when your father hit the kerb it would have been with the outer rim if it was a normal glancing blow, both rims if he went right over it, in either case I would have expected to see impact damage on the tyre outer sidewall and the outer rim. Something worng when a rim can be damaged but the tyre not, especially if it was two times.
  21. Are you kidding! The damage is on the inner rim, it is flattened, it must have driven right over the kerb! Peening marks indeed!
  22. It's a motor car, a means of getting from A to B, not the Kohinoor diamond. It was and still remains fit for purpose, as described and of merchantable quality, a slightly jagged masked edge of a paint repair on the tailgate is not going to compromise the vehicles capability of performing its function or endanger your family. I'm so glad that I dont have a family to worry about, I would be a nervous wreck worrying about their safety with the stone chips, zinc inclusions etc on my vehicle.
  23. Will you then be pestering them with Amway? 🤣
  24. I would not take anything that a garage trots out as gospel, quite the opposite in fact. Crankshaft pulleys are usually fitted with a keyway and can only be fitted in one position, without it or if there is even the slighttest movement in the drive key it will shake loose and wreck the crankshaft, this is doubly true on the much heavier harmonic balancers with a much greater moment of inertia. Can anyone confirm whether the crankshaft pulley on this engine is free to be fitted in any angular position? A harmonic balancer certainly does not need to be fitted in a certain angular position, they are not weighted at a certain position and would function in any orientation but would need immense clamping pressure if no drive key.
  25. There are plenty on Ebay, just google aircon pulley, shear plate, 5K0 820 803
