difficulty identify Octavia SCOUT for insurance company to get quote?
I only discovered that my Octavia had been imported from Greece when I got a full breakdown of the factory build PR codes and one of them said something like "Special Equipment for Cyprus" - it wasn't Greece, I was having a senior moment And the senior moment continues as I cannot for the life of me recall how or where I got the full PR code breakdown, ErwinSkoda perhaps?

Octavia Variable Boot Floor retrofit?
I have modified MK1 VBF's plentifull & cheap in the breakers for a MK2 and a Yeti, they all had exactly the same width & just needed the rear curve reprofiling if you are obsessive compulsive and the side rails raising, the Yeti uses 2 of the 3 sections. A very easy DIY job that is easier, cheaper and looks 100% OE compared to making one. The OE variofloor can be massively overloaded as its made from 19mm proper plywood and spans less than 1m.

Airbag error
Need VCDS or a decent fault code reader to reset it, you will have probably turned on the ignition while the side impact sensor was disconnected.

2.0TDi Common rail throttle valve cleaning
I wonder if it "thinks" it is working i.e. butterfly removed but spindle moving & potentiometer making the right noises whether it would do a regen & whether it would be a satisfactory one, I will read up & may give it a try. Failing that I have a spare EGR flange blanking plate from buying a pair when I did the Octavia, I might try that with gradually increasing hole sizes to limit the amount of EGR gases passing. If ever I get back to the UK a remap is on the cards & if I go to their workshops for it they say they can undo the emissions fix FOC which would be the best thing all round, anything else is trying to polish a turd.

2.0TDi Common rail throttle valve cleaning
Good point, I will read up on my self study guides before playing with anything. My petrol head doubts the above as the mixture would be enriched and the lambda sensor would cause the ECU to weaken it to achieve lambda 1 but even after driving diesels for close to 20 years my head wont think in diesel terms. I need to read up, thanks for the warning.

Handbrake shoe adjustment / new cables
OK, if you say so. What do you consider is the purpose of the compensator? A clue might be in the name.

difficulty identify Octavia SCOUT for insurance company to get quote?
It sounds like a grey import of a model that was not sold in Spain at that time, as such the insurers wont have it on their database. Is it registered in Spain and if so what does the registration document say that it is? Hopefully that will coincide with what the insurers are quoting for, in my country they use the registration number for the details like engine size, power, emissions etc. I brought over a UK registered RHD Yeti and reregistered it in France, when I came to insure it they were calling it a different model that had a 5 and not 6 speed gearbox, slightly more power & I dont know what other equipment differences as it was not a model sold in the UK just as my car was never sold in France. When I looked at my carte grise (registration document) I saw that they had registered it as the closest model sold in France. Regarding your question of insurance, I would say that if its insured as the same vehicle as it is registered as then you have done everything right and they probably wouldn't even notice, it was not an issue to me as I only have the minimum insurance protecting 3rd parties, I could never claim for my own losses or damage so I really dont care. The incorrect emissions rating cost me a little more to register it and my insurance is a little more but dirt cheap anyway, it really is not worth me stirring up a hornets nest. If I were in your shoes and they were telling me what the vehicle is from the registration number I would just agree, many owners would only know the colour of their vehicle!!!

Supplied and registered from new in Spain or an import?

Bad TPS but driving fine?
They will be spunking away your money by replacing the throttle pedal, the problem is soot build up from the EGR on the throttle body restricting the motion of the butterfly, said item on a diesel engine has no function for normal driving, all it does is create vacuum in the inlet manifold under certain conditions to draw through EGR gases and to ensure the engine stops in an orderly fashion when you turn off the ignition. I am going to bet 2 things: Your vehicle has had the emissions fix That the engine sometimes shakes a little on switch off I would also guess that your fuel economy and the response of the engine is not what it could be. Have a look at the thread I created in the Yeti section for an overview of the results from removing and cleaning the throttle valve, there are many others with detailed instructions.

A scam I presume
The number is genuine but the Nationwide would probably not be calling from that number, the scammers definitely are not but are exploiting a weakness of the system which means they can make a genuine number falsely appear on your caller ID

Windscreen Wiper Streaks! HELP!
And dont forget to thoroughly clean the wiper rubbers but maybe not with a solvent, I always clean them with kitchen roll or workshop paper roll when they are still wet from the washing the car and a huge amount of dirt a grime comes off each time, I have found that is usually the cause of smears and also juddering.

Remote locking on an FL
Have you looked at the coding options for the body control module to see if the central locking could be activated? Maybe its a BCM for lower spec cars and a CCM for higher spec ones containing all the features of the BCM plus the ACL etc? A case of removing the BCM and replacing with a CCM and recoding?

BCM or CCM Module repair or second hand one
And from me as well to you both! A Fabia is sounding more and more attractive! Maybe I will look at Roomsters again.

BCM or CCM Module repair or second hand one
Why do you say that the motor is OK? Is that from bench testing from a 12V source? Hotwiring it type of thing? Unless the Fabia is unique then do you realise that its not a relay in the BCM but a coded signal via the canbus? It could be the BCM but it could equally be the canbus node in the wiper motor housing, you should really do a VCDS scan to determine which. apologies if you have already done this or the Fabia has an old school set up, I just wanted to avoid you possibly replacing an expensive BCM that may not be faulty.

Missing the rechargeable torch??
Very cheap and easy to replace, I would not be without one but we have toll roads, I managed before though without realising what I was missing out on. In 30 years Eurotunnel have yet to manage to make their rear view mirror hanging tickets with the perforations that tear properly, plus they wont even fit on most modern mirrors, the screen clip is very good for them, it means they dont have to wake me up to scan the bar code.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I wish I had even the slightest clue of what you are talking about, I was hoping the video might explain but there does not appear to be one, just a start arrow that goes to the end of 8 seconds of nothingness.

Towing with an Octavia?
So is it intended to prevent you jacknifing the trailer/caravan? Does it use the reversing sensors or the steering angle sensor?

Sasha’s Dads Octavia 2 Workhorse
I would add some rear springs to your list, very cheap, easy to fit and will transform the ride, check the foam bump stops for decomposition and if not 100% replace them at the same time, they cost peanuts.

Sasha’s Dads Octavia 2 Workhorse
Good value! Can all the doors be locked/unlocked from the rocker switch in the centre console? If so then it has the locking motors, & when I think about it of course it would unless they made seperate units just for the poverty spec one, I think the reciever for the keyfobs is contained in the CCM, hopefully Rosstech may have a list of part numbers & revisions with all the functions like they do for the clockspring, you may even find that the reciever is already there and simply not enabled.

Airbag and canbus problem
Amongst all that there but one positive: Multifunction steering wheel control module: Subsystem 1 - Part No SW: 3T0 959 537 HW: 3T0 959 537 Labels: 3C8-959-537.CLB Component: E221__MFL-URO H07 0012 Serial number: 2149720 Coding: 800000 No fault code found. Maybe remove that before throwing the rest of the car away

Jacking up the Yeti
Q. What do the Yeti jacking points, the OBD socket and my jacksy all have in common? A. Invisible to all but contortionists or keyboard warriors but they must be there because I can find them by feel when I have to insert something in them Thanks for the localisation of the rear witness triangle Yety, I felt it this morning, must wash my hands now before verifying any other orifices

Handbrake shoe adjustment / new cables
Rubbish, there is a compensator. You can mention it as many times as you like, it wont make it any more valid. I dont disagree with the wisdom of replacing in pairs but only because if one has failed there is a probablilty that the other may follow.
