  1. Normally the dealers like to be very hush about what they do when it comes to software, I think its partially because they dont actually have a clue themselves, just a technical bulletin to say update this car with x and y.
  2. Someone has probably messed with the bcm adaptations causing all kinds of issues... Why did you buy the car knowing it had these problems out of interest?
  3. Just cause a function can be carried out through a procedure doesnt mean its for joe public to carry out. Also, the inspection light has to be reset with a decent diagnostic tool. Also also, You should read up on your warranty, many are void if servicing and inspections arent carried out by qualified people using quality parts. A service is much more than just changing the oil, there is checking components and preventative maintenance involved too.
  4. This is not a good way about doing it. If I was you I would make use of an unused Leuchte channel in the body control module. That way you can decide when you want it to come on and certain settings, you could make it come on during high beam but also during fog lights for example. A leuchte channel set up correctly can switch a relay to control your light bar. Out of interest, why did you want the canbus wires to control a light bar? Do you have some kind of aftermarket canbus controller or something?
  5. Timing belt failure is nearly never related to 'local trips' or taking it easy... Not something id at all recommend. Personally I never like to comment on whether someone should or shouldnt change a timing belt as i cant see the car in front of me and dont know if there are any other factors that might cause early failure. Thats just my thoughts, Stick to the service intervals and change early if the belt is damaged or contaminated. Belts can wear from mileage and also from age and perishing. Same as ive said above, just cause a car is lightly used doesnt mean a rubber belt cant perish with age, just something to be aware of. Im not saying any of these belts need changing, nor that they dont need changing, just that its hard to judge a yes/no over the internet.
  6. You need special tools which bolt in place of the water pump, these are there to set the timing within 0.1 of a degree of where it needs to be. with active cylinder technology it needs to be very precise or you get all kinds of faults. You’re very correct, I’ll look into it in a bit more detail later today and just see what kind of price I’d charge if I did buy the tool.
  7. I always appreciate a recommendation but sadly the tool to do this isn’t worth me investing in, required tool is the VAS611007 and costs over £1000… and that’s second hand! If I was to invest in it, the amount of belts I would have to end up doing would be massive to pay for itself, either that or id end up charging more than the dealer. the job itself is a bit of a pain too, requires water pump and housing to be removed, lots of additional bits in the way. on the hole it’s not a terrible job, just a pain in the ass really with the additional costs. Sadly can’t help with this one 😞
  8. I can supply you part numbers but youre more than welcome to them either way, theyre free after all.
  9. Not at all. Just there were a lot of odd bits I required and it was cheaper to buy complete parts and interiors. Seems a shame to throw the bits I dont require away when im sure the community could make great use of it especially when its free and saves people money!

  11. Ah sorry didnt realise it was a passat, assumed a superb
  12. Just something to add. The filter is NOT part of the guidelines for replacement at 80k on the DQ381. I personally believe this is because the filter is slightly awkward to get to and the dealer cant be bothered. Make sure if you get it done elsewhere they are also changing the filter.
  13. Really they should (and possibly will) need calibrating once replaced. You may get away without doing it but may not operate correctly. Just a warning
  14. A few questions. What makes you think its a DQ500 gearbox? And how do you know the clutches are worn?
  15. Got a link to the LIN converter that you used?
  16. Youd have better luck going down to the local park and telling the ducks on the pond, theyre more likely to take any notice than the DVLA
  17. Seen as your car is a TSI 2.0 it wont have a cambelt to start with Regarding the prices youve been quoted, here are some of what i charge in north london with online service history all updated to match; I charge £150 for a DSG service on the 6spd For an oil change using all genuine parts £90 Pollen filter is charged at cost price depending on what one but between £10-15 normally Haldex i charge £90 for with a filter clean You are correct that things like fuel filter, air filter are not covered by the plan but the petrol vehicles do not have a servicable fuel filter and the air filter again I charge only what it costs as its a few minute job and genuine is normally around £10. Remember, the prices ive put above are what I charge but I dont have the same overheads as a dealer so cant offer you a cup of tea or a sofa to sit on Hopefully these prices give you a bit of an understanding, but take it with a pinch of salt, dealers and garages will generally be more expensive than me.
  18. Its always good to document what you found/did so anyone else with this issue and who finds the thread will know what to do instantly.
  19. Welcome to the forum. I believe its done through the infotainment screen, press the menu button on your heater panel and it should then give you the option between ventilate and heat.
  20. What a crazy story. I do wonder how it ended up on the U.K. market and who registered it as a U.K. car. Whether it was Skoda or a dodgy import after the fact
  21. mine pulls out for front and rear fogs when in the auto position.
  22. Filling is far from a nightmare on the DQ400/E gearboxes. Its no different to a normal 6spd DQ250 gearbox in terms of filling, electronically it differs massively. So maybe they dont have the correct tools, ODIS or maybe the ability or knowledge? If its any good to you I can carry the DSG service out, update the online service history and I am also hybrid/electric vehicle level 3 trained (not that it would matter as youre not working on the HV side) EDIT: Filling only becomes a pain in the ass and involves touching the HV side of things when you have replaced the mechatronics unit.
  23. Youre probably all missing a trick... many seem to forget this part Your fog lights are also your cornering lights! sometimes only one will come on in the direction you turn the wheel!
