  1. yup, most likely a faulty water pump. Mine failed spectacularly on the motorway with panicked warnings about turning the engine off.
  2. I used to have the same problem with mk mk2 FL VRS which was white and started with a CX. All the cop cars in North Wales are CX and of course they had to buy a local unmarked in white so i regularly got waved at cheerily by the local plod and scowled at by the chavs :( Was a real PITA.
  3. Oh dear. Sorry your original post just mentioned changing the fronts and mine was caused by the rears. Sounds like you have a problem then unless its the famous "boom in cabin" that some people get problems with.
  4. have you checked if your rear tyres aren't sawtoothed? I had a bearing sounding drone and the dealer got me to check the rears for a smooth ridge on the front block and sharp on the rear. Lo and behold they were sawtoothed as apparently the Octy and Golfs are prone to it. Got mine fixed by getting new tyres (they were close to being replaced) and a 4 wheel Hunter re-alignment. If the tyres aren't directional they had also suggested rotating the new ones so they swapped the direction of travel. If yours is out maybe you could get them to pay for the re-alignment?
  5. mines done it before. usually when the region didn't finish from the last time I turned it off. it realises it needs to do a region so sticks a load on the car and tries again. I think 3 restarts was my max and at that point I took it for a good run to clear it.
  6. Had my b pillars fixed with a velvet sticker on the inside of the seat belt unit. It soon came back though and I ended up fixing it with a coffee stirrer :(
  7. I seem to remember mine were quite cheap when I replaced some on my mkii but that was UK prices :( Have you checked eBay for and VW versions as I think they were the same as the Skoda ones.
  8. Yep, also got it on my DSG vas but only mainly in ECO mode (sometimes in normal mode) and it only started happening after I got a new boost sensor fitted when it broke down and had to be towed.
  9. I think your best defence is a dash cam as they'll hear the beeeeeppp and you shouting F**(&((! H&*$ in surprise. Would be interested to hear if its logged in the car. You might just be unlucky. I ran 43,000 miles with front assist and never had a crips packet incident. The only time it seemed to have a meltdown was when using ACC and passing very low backed truck units on the dual carriage way.
  10. yes, be careful! I just PX'd my mk3 last week. I knew I had a payment going out at the end of April which would have brought me about level with my PX so I didn't need to pay much off. Unfortunately in order to check my settlement I had pressed the "settlement figure" button on the Skoda Finance site about 5 days before my payment left my bank account. I had then unwittingly locked in the settlement figure for 30 days and after I queried why my latest payment wasn't showing up they informed me of the 30 day lockout and wouldn't budge on it. So I basically had paid nearly £400 on my monthly payment which didn't show in my settlement figure and I then had to find this amount in order to trade the car in :( Ive now got to wait until the PX payment goes through from the dealer and then request a refund from Skoda Finance. What a ball ache :( So my advice is get your settlement figure by phoning up Skoda Finance BUT ONLY once they confirm your latest payment has reached them and will be included in the figures. Don't bother with the online version as its easy to make the mistake I did and you'll "lose" your monthly payment for a few weeks.
  11. You could check with the dealer to get the correct part number or just order direct off the dealer.
  12. Yes thats a new option. I did want a car with this for comfort when on long boring motorways and sport on the twisty roads which is why I discounted the mk3 when replacing my mk3. Glad its got it at last as it seemed stupid that the non sport Superb had it but the VRS didn't,
  13. What auric said but there's a big thread on it here as the manual was wrong at some point http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/337291-wiper-service-position/
  14. I bought BOSCH Aerotwin A860S Flat Windscreen Wiper from eBay which lists them as 24" and 19". They fit perfectly so Im assuming they were the same size as OEM.
  15. oh dear. Is that a hidden cost cutting exercise :( Have they done the same with the petrol vrs?
  16. I would have gone for one of these crazy low rate lease deals myself if my annual mileage wasn't all over the place from year to year. They are very good if you know you aren't going to go over and you look after your cars.
  17. Variant - vRS Diesel Estate PCP End date - March '17 (warranty end of sept 16) GFMV - think around 10,000 will have to check Plan Ordered a Bmw Msport 335dx touring for May delivery I took out a superb at the end of last year and was looking at swapping mine for a 4x4 version or an octy 4x4 vrs. Unfortunately the numbers from the dealer didn't really stack up with a small discount on the superb as it was new plus low residuals that we all know about by now with the mk3. I prefer to buy from dealers so didn't really want to go down the broker route due to the px. I don't think with my payments that the octy would have ever hit the expected GFV for px My mate put me onto some good deals that Bmw were doing and I then found a dealer down south via a forum that was doing even better deals. So. I've ended up going for a 3.0l diesel with a bit more power than the octy. A few options. An £10,900 main dealer discount and the same px in May that the Skoda dealer was offering last Nov. I expect the Skoda px for May would be massively lower and leave me in larger neg equity. Bmw are probably offsetting some discount to make the px better. I was originally looking at a 330d but crazily the 335d worked out £2 per month cheaper due to bigger discount and higher GFV! There's a little negative equity still so I'm going to try and sell private for a little more but it won't be a problem to cover it if it doesn't sell and goes to px. I'll be sad to leave the octy but I'm looking forward to trying a different manufacturer for a change. It's a pity that the Skoda suv isn't out now as I quite liked the look of that.
  18. Good luck with the new car, lovely motor. Ive also gone over to a different brand and Im picking up a 3 series in May. I fancied a change as my last 5 cars have been Octavia's plus the PX from Skoda was crap compared to what BMW offered.
  19. Don't be saying that as I've ordered one too! But then my new seals seem to have fixed the problem now and it's been fine since.
  20. is there a guide anywhere on how to remove the components so I can check my cable at the back? Im assuming it goes to the glove compartment now rather than the Head Unit?
  21. The road noise is cured a lot by decent tyres. Ive got michelin ps3 on one axel and goodyear F1's on the other. Both good colours although Im biased
  22. Good choice and welcome to the forum On a 63 plate like mine they should have got free (3 years/30,000 miles) servicing so you would have had the best servicing option of every 10,000 miles at the mileage you're looking at (Im not a massive fan of extended servicing which is about every 18,000 miles or 1 or 2 years (can't remember sorry) This free servicing was for the first 30,000 miles so after that its either back to fixed servicing every 10,000 or the 18,000 miles (ish) if put back to extended. I'd check the DSG changes smoothly with no clunks (i.e. no mechatronic problems but there haven't been many, if any problems reported on the mk3 on here) If you're approaching 40,000 then it will need a DSG oil change at this point. I think its around £140- £180. not entirely sure as mine was included on a service plan so was included in the 40,000 service. Check for wear on the inner side of the tyre as some suffered from the tracking being out from the factory (mine included). Cant really think of anything else. There's the boom in cabin thread but mine never had this so might be worth checking on a few different surfaces on the test drive.
