  1. I've heard the opposite claim, on the basis that diesels don't have a throttle butterfly, but my experience is that diesel engine braking is better yes.
  2. Based on @sepulchrave suggestion, find matched struts and you can avoid buying spring compressors.

I can do you a good price on Tower Bridge...
  4. @Bjohn2544 The traction control fault makes me think of an ABS sensor, since they're used to effect traction control, by cutting throttle, with similar feelings to a misfire.
  5. A for Audi are/were in Clydebank. What I meant to say was that they were just across Dumbarton Road from the Clyde Centre where Timpsons Clydebank is.
  6. A for Audi (qv) are/were in one of the industrial areas just across Dumbarton road from the Clyde Centre.
  7. Anywhere with a Hunter rig and a reputation.
  8. In which context, does your exhaust have a flexible section? They can go porous and let exhaust gases into the engine bay.
  9. Start with metric 1/2" drive socket set, metric ring spanners, straight, Phillips and Posidrive No1 and No2 screwdrivers, snipe nose and flat nose pliers. That covers all the essentials; you'll need other stuff but that can be bought when required.
  10. Latest version Osram NightBreakers; they'll only put range up by about 10% but that's the way lights work.
  11. @J.R. That is not what I said. What I said was that the issue was whether or not the sensor could be replaced without replacing the cat. Please stop misrepresenting my statements before I am forced to report you for doing so. Thankfully @Adinko understood me.
  12. @Adinko Well, the reporting catalytic convertor temperature is clearly an unreasonable value. The issue is whether you have to replace the sensor or the entire unit.
  13. Good guess; LEDs are both illegal and ineffectual in halogen reflectors.
  14. A for Audi, Bedrock Vw Castle Garage in Dumbarton (further out maybe but about 30 minutes from city centre by train; 4 an hour plus expresses in rush hour).
  15. Even that's a misuse of statistics; what the eightyfifth percentile figure is correctly used to measure is the quantity that 85% of all observed phenomonae are at or below. In this case, the speed that 85% of drivers drive at or below in the absence of any legal penalties.
  16. I think it's observer bias; the observer expects to find cases of $phenomenon and so tends to notice those cases more than cases not meeting that circumstance.
  17. Sort of. Yes in that the door mechanism isn't actuating correctly. No in that the likely fault is an internal break in one of the wires in one of the front door bellows.
  18. Cheers; I'd start by getting the transmission oil changed then. If you've ever smelled 75k transmission oil, you'll know why I say this is a garage job!

And remember to check which part the driveshafts are singing!
  20. Maybe, but I need to know what mileage it's done...
  21. So he has to accelerate hard, to keep the fuel consumption below 40mpg.
  22. None of the Mk 1 had DPF.
  23. Yes. The airbag light is referred to as a "latching fault light". This means that, once it comes on it will stay on until reset with VCDS, OBD II or a dealership computer.
