It,s a simple test. Just to see what certain engine and DSG combinations do. Takes a few seconds to find out. Once the car has started and foot on brake chose D, look at the rev counter. Then choose S, does the RPM rise? With a Manual Hand Brake car with a DSG for Sprinting it is simply clever, hold the car on the parking brake not the footbrake. Accelerate in D or S on Manual 1st as you release the hand brake. You get a better acceleration. PS, Earlier DSG,s, some applications, 6 speed DQ250 only has 5 gears in S, DQ200 in a Twincharger vRS 7 speed DQ200 only 6 gears in S. Some of the first built would go into 7th at 127 mph in S. (If on Cruise Control & you change the gear selector to S from D as you are just driving it would show S7, or with a DQ250 S6.)

For crawling in traffic S can sometimes be the option to use as engine / dsg dependent it might not hunt between 1st and 2nd with a bit of pickup in speed from moving off to stopping again.

It can happen with nearly new Diesels. Yours has likely had the VW Emissions Fix applied. New Engime Management Software and a Flow Device fitted to the Air Intake. Regens are just as required, your diesel or premium diesel is all that is needed. You could have the Ash Content of the DPF checked. But you are not getting a Clogged Warning, why worry? PS. Maybe go to a Gulf Filling Station & fill the tank with EvoUltra which is HVO and give the car an Italian Tuneup once the engine up to temp. (Not cheap though, 203.9 pence a litre here), or fill up with BP or ESSO even Shell Premium Diesel.

@Practicaldriver What car has your son got? Some Companies are quoting ridiculous prices to cover a BEV. Some like Aviva might just want out of insuring BEV,s of certain makes. Very expensive to repair and parts difficult to get, and ridiculously fast. . I have Insured my BEV for half i paid last year with Admiral, and they wanted hundreds more this year compared to last. 20 years NCD last Year, 21 years now. They just do 9 Years, Now covered and Mirrored for my Pickup.

There are Average Speed cameras about on 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 mph & on 70 mph roads in many regions of the UK. It hardly requires having watched a Vlogger to know this, just pay attention while out and about driving.

The problem of untaxed vehicles can not be resolved until the problem of Unregistered vehicles or registered to the current keeper or driver is resolved and more ANPR cameras in villages, and towns and at filling stations. £2 million unpaid fines just in Dundee for LEZ, that is the Council or their Debt Collection Agency failing for what ever reason. Welcome. A TSI or a TDI? The Oil if a pre 2018 car will be VW 504 00 / 507 00 , so 5w 30 FS III, or 0w 30 FS III, 2018 on is maybe VW508 00 / 509 00, so 0W 20 FS IV. But you could use 0w 30 FS III. Are you checking the oil not only when cold, but to get the correct level when the Engine Oil is up to normal operating temperature, so an indicated 90*oC or so after stopping a few minutes. 4 or 5 minutes.

Maybe best not at a Main Dealer unless they have a Hunter Alignment system and employees trained to use it. Some will never have their vehicle in for alignment and others might when getting new tyres fitted. Or when have their tyres rotated. It is up to you. Regular tyre pressure checks and inspections of the tread wear in 'Simply Clever'.

Surely he has a very high price on his head.

Many report jerkiness, often motoring journalists & often those new to a DSG. As it is they are fitted to a big variety of engines, power outputs from 69 bhp to over 300 bhp. Funnily the same vehicle might be jerky off the line with one driver and not with another. Best to comment might be driving instructors that teach in cars with a DSG. There are 3 of these i know on on this forum.

The Low Emission Zone in Glasgow is certainly not about money making. It costs more to administer than it brings in. But then people should learn or change their vehicles and stop being fined. Not everyone can get away with failing to pay time after time. Plenty still do though.

@Ianhar You are doing lots of miles so is the car getting charged daily and running on electron and petrol. Do you start runs on petrol and save the battery for use later or how do you work it? Allowing it to warm up is maybe doing no favours as far as oil / petrol use compared to start it and go and do not boot it until engine oil temp is up a bit.

That was a good £10 more than it is when already expensive at £12 a litre.
