the truth about electric cars
Nobody is mandating scrapping the millions of Historic Vehicles in the UK are they? All these classics and collector vehicles and everyday running vehicle. Energy really is an issue for England & Westminster as far as generating & importing enough electricity and transmitting it to homes and business. It really is not a UK wide issue other than the National Grid being Not fit for purpose. Other issues as far as Public charging and charging at home are well known. High time the growing weight of Passenger cars and width was dealt with regardless of BEV or Ice Vehicles because there are lots of very heavy 5-7 seaters out on the roads. Extracting from the North Sea makes no difference because the UK does not own the oil that comes out, and will not be refining it, and if they were then still that products are not owned by the UK.

Octavia mark 4 misfire
So was the Pollen filter changed in October? Has the brake fluid been replaced anytime? Interim / Minor & Major services were a thing of the past. Skoda UK went to Oil & Inspection Service & Extended scope at 3 years then each 2 years in 2019/20. Spark Plugs were at Major Services on the 2nd one years back. They should still be at 4 years / 40,000 miles, but only if the owners asks and pays and Spark Plugs at Main Dealers Services are a ridiculous price. They have air filters at 60,000 ,miles / 6 years which is nuts. They should be inspected annually, or at a service.

Engine oil - HUXIL 3 VS HUXIL 4
Just because VW508 00 / 509 00, so 0w 20 FS IV is the recommended oil and not VW 504 00 / 507 00 0w 30 FS III.

Spark plug change time. They might be perfect but please ask the mechanic for them as it would be interesting at least to me to see how all 4 look, and if there are 2 different.

the truth about electric cars
The Disunited in such a state of Mericans is big, very oil rich and with many that like big vehicles & have still a recent history of vehicle manufacturers and engine builders . So unlike England that is not huge and not oil rich, and is in fact oil and resources poor. Also renewable and nuclear poor because of years thinking about things. Norway is oil rich and not unaware of the issue with fossil fuels and climate change. Mericans have flown to the moon and mars and now around the moon and yet could not sort out pollution reduction in vehicles and make them reliable for 500,000 miles.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher Have you not seen Courier / Delivery vehicles dropping off at properties and Drop Shops and also collecting from locations on there route? As much as there are many reasons for Horses for Courses and that might be ICE vehicles, times are having to change and Luddites just need to realise it.

the truth about electric cars
@Graham Butcher You win. Never in your lifetime will they catch on. No use, like logging lorries and other HGV,s.. Obviously not the same weight or design or power from a van. Expected delivery every 6 minutes or less. Amazon deliveries can be many on the same road and there day is far longer than a Refuse lorries for many towns or cities. Electric Double decker busses will never catch on, all that stop start between bus stops. .................. Green Councils have 4 or 5 types of refuse collections. So General Waste, Paper / Cardboard, Recycling, Food waste, Garden waste and glass. In Angus you have to take glass to public bins / skips. Youi pay for gardenm waste collection. Food waste are smaller vehicles. So really it is about working hours and distance to refuse tips or yards and vehicle fleet and charging. Dundee City different from Angus, or Perth and Kinross or Fife.

the truth about electric cars
Well stop starting is where BEV,s are perfect. That really is why Last Mile deliveries which is really multi stop deliveries are being done with Electric Vans. Lets see who many others having invested many more millions than Wakefield in Electric Refuse vehicles give up on the trials and declare it a failure. As to starting and moving a heavy vehicle. Every road is not an uphill slope. Countries where there have been thousands of BEV refuse trucks are one thing, but what will matter is long term UK use in all regions. And after all there has to be reduced pollution and maybe Diesel Refuse trucks using Stop / start. Problem with what ever type of refuse truck in Scotland is getting Drivers with appropriate licenses because the Council or company pay is poor for drivers that can earn much more elsewhere. Locally to me they had to call back drivers that had retired.

the truth about electric cars
I have read various articles / reports now on Wakefield & BEV refuse trucks. Charging points at depots seem to be an issue. Longer routes out and about seemingly. Short journeys stop start not suiting the vehicles???? It looks very odd that where the BEV,s are ideal as they are for other councils you would not use them, and have a mixed fleet of BEV and ICE. As it is there must be something more going on. Were the vehicles they bought or leased actually faulty, or was it user error?

Strange as Dundee,s seem to be doing well. Not sure if Aberdeen's Hydrogen Refuse lorries are going to carry on doing the job.

Best you say what engine it is and how many miles done. I see it is a 2020 car, so when where the spark plugs replaced, where they done at 4 years / 40,000 miles. When was the air filter looked at for condition? Getting any fault codes that are logged would be a good idea. As far as stop / start & wear, there are cars / vans doing many thousands of miles over many years and the starter or engine are not wearing out. PS. Did you refuel recently and is it E10 / 95 ron? As the Winter fuel changed to Summer formula in the past weeks there seems to be lots of reports of Engine / Exhaust emissions lights showing.

Warning Message question
My MG EV does it all the time as does the others i drove. (screen can totally blank anytime and anywhere) Last week i roadtested a MG4 X-power. Holy crap it was rapid. Handled like crap though. But then i did not check the tyre pressures as i normally would but then i remembered and checked the screen. Set up at max ECO pressure.

Warning Message question
They were taking the p!$$ at the MG Dealership. How much time was actually spent to check there was no fault? Even if that is their Minimum diagnostics charge. The owner will get that £150 refunded when the fault or issue shows again in the Warranty period. As it is the MG Dealership staff know exactly what the 'Transitory problem' will be. They work on the models daily. As do Skoda Techs / fitters on Skodas.

Skoda Octavia mk3, CKFC engine, 2.0 TDi 150hp, coolant looose
The coolant does not need to be at MAX. At services it might get filled to MAX then after a run the coolant sets it's level between MIN & MAX. If there was a FILL TO THIS LEVEL, that would be marked on the bottle. If the level does not stay steady and drops to MIN then that is an issue / problem.

Fabia 2018 DSG question
There are gearbox specialist recommending that they do get Oil changes. Probably best to leave a working well DQ200 alone, especially at so low miles. @RickW was it you that had the failure with a Mk2 vRS that required a new MCU? EDIT. Sorry i remember now it was @AJR77
-
Fabia 2018 DSG question
What recommends a DSG fluid change for your DQ200 DSG? There is no schedule for that. You could go get someone to change both oils if they know what they are doing, maybe Main Dealership might be prepared to do it. Not all will. But the service desk staff might book it in not knowing what you actually have.

the truth about electric cars
We will see over the next year just how things all work out. Just how much fuel prices do rise for those that do not have their own oil wells or run on UVO or have their own solar, hydro or wind generated electricity. That is probably the majority of drivers in the UK.
