  1. Yes, My (just p/x’d for a Superb Estate) B8 Passat drive belt was changed at 5 years and close to 50K. Oil changes done at 8K and the manual box (lifetime no recommend change) at 70k. Oils and lubes degrade over time. It makes no sense as a consumer to run your equipment close to failure. Manufacturers are interested in you buying a new car within a couple of years of the warranty expiring, not running it for 10-15 years and 150K plus miles. It might cost a little more, but price the cost of a drive belt failure on an average car and see it that makes any sense at all? To me it doesn’t. John
  2. I’ve had a similar issue to CubbyQ. On the A417, going South from Birdlip, last Thursday evening, despite the road sign reading 60, the car slowed down to 40😳 There had only recently been long term road works in the area. My thinking is the sat nav (google maps on my iPhone 13) was giving the older info and overruled the sign reading software……🤷‍♂️
  3. To be honest, I always change my belts and oils before the recommended intervals, including gearbox. Never changing oils or belts, just puts you on the road to failure, earlier than normal imho
  4. I would not be pleased to need to resort to pulling fuses. Skoda would be getting emails to every level of management two’s email address I could identify. Over that last 15 years of Audi A3 and Passat estates I have never had this issue, and would consider it totally unacceptable.
  5. Ok, that does put a different and relevant view. I don’t always have my satnav on, so despite driving into failing light most days this time of year I haven’t seen that. This evening I will be out a bit earlier than normal, but will have my satnav running to see if I get the same response from my superb.
  6. Sadly No. ODB11 and other devices don’t have access to safety mandated systems currently. I don’t think that they ever will. It’s a legal requirement to have the systems, and my understanding is that Thay have to be available every time you switch the car on. That way if you have an accident after disabling a system that could otherwise be avoided by the car. Your choice makes you liable for a traffic offence.
  7. To be honest on my Superb they come on a bit early, but I’m happy with that. It may be something as simple as they’re set to come on at a set time of day rather than light level. Try switching to UK summer time and see if that changes anything (apart from the oblivious clock time).
  8. Steve-I and Rifleman, Sadly, my current setup is the same as yours. So that idea is dead in the water. My car was a late June build, so it’s interesting that in early November, it was showing updates required on the screen. John
  9. How about charging EU visitors with EV’s a flat fee?…….
  10. Opieoils for me as well, for many years now.👍
  11. @steve-l Steve, mine is a late June 2025 build and had quite a few updater performed before I picked it up last week - initially told 25, then told no only 13. You may have some queued up.
  12. Today, I had my first experience of the safety systems “sudden Braking Syndrome “ reversing out of a super market parking slot, a small BMW turned round a corner to be approaching from about 23 mr slowely. The car stopped dead. My wife (bless her confidence in my driving) said …”what did you hit?”. I replied , nothing my dear and drove home….. Update, I was wearing my seatbelt
  13. That looks like it’s quite decent 👍
  14. i’ had trouble driving the “cat”, well spotted 🤦‍♂️😂
  15. @Cedwing Hi, I’ve just arrived home. I ran the Skoda maps and Google maps on the way home (stopped about half way to swop them over. Your correct in that when I use Google mapping the drivers screen is showing Skoda maps, I hadn’t noticed the first time I ran them. I’d forgotten all about the phone option, tomorrow I hope to check it’s active and see if it plays any sounds afterwards. It turns out I’d left my phone in the cat last evening for about 10 minutes, there was no audible sounds on my leaving the car. John
  16. Cedwing, That’s very interesting, I’ll look later as I use Google maps Phone warning? Can I assume that you me the phone left behind warning? I don’t recall seeing/hearing that, again I’ll need see find it and check it our. The paper user manual isn’t good, but I find the online version so very clunky. So much so I don’t use that at all 🤦‍♂️
  17. @pw2112 Paul, It could be a few things: Based on the details you've provided and the search results I've reviewed, there are several common causes for water ingress in vehicles like your 2009 Skoda Octavia estate. The issue with your blower not producing hot air is also a known consequence, as serious water ingress can lead to electrical problems. Here are the most likely sources of the leak for you to investigate: Potential Cause Description & Key Clues Blocked Scuttle Drains 🍂 The drain channels under the windscreen wipers (scuttle panel) clog with leaves. Water overflows into the cabin, often near the pollen filter. Faulty Pollen Filter Seal The seal around the pollen filter housing (located in the scuttle panel) can fail. A displaced or cracked cover lets water drip directly into the footwell. Failed Door Membrane 🚪 The plastic moisture barrier behind the door card can perish or become unsealed. Leaks from doors often soak the lower carpet. Leaking Rear Washer Pipe The pipe to the rear window washer can crack or disconnect, leaking water that runs along the floor to the front. 🔧 A Step-by-Step Guide to Finding the Leak Given that your blower won't blow hot air, it's crucial to address this promptly to avoid more costly electrical repairs. Here is a logical sequence to track down the source: 1. Inspect the Scuttle Panel Area First: This is the most common culprit. Open the bonnet and look at the area at the bottom of the windscreen, where the wiper mechanisms are. · Clear the Drains: Remove any leaves, twigs, and debris you find. Then, slowly pour a small amount of water into the drainage channels and see if it drains freely out near the front wheels. If it's blocked, carefully clear it. · Check the Pollen Filter: The housing for the cabin pollen filter is located here. Check if the waterproof cover is cracked, misplaced, or improperly sealed. A faulty seal here would allow water to flow directly into the passenger footwell. 2. Inspect the Door Seals: If the scuttle area is clear, the next step is to check the doors. · Remove the interior door card to inspect the plastic waterproof membrane behind it. On older VAG group cars (like Skoda, VW), this membrane can perish or come unglued, allowing water that enters the door to leak into the cabin. 3. Check the Rear Washer Pipe: This is a very common issue in estates and hatchbacks. · Have someone operate the rear window washer while you listen in the footwell and along the door sills. If you hear gurgling or see water, you've found the leak. The pipe can disconnect at joints under the dashboard or along the sill trim. 4. Don't Forget the Sunroof: While your search results didn't mention one, if your car has a sunroof, its drain hoses (which run down the A-pillars) can become blocked or disconnected, causing water to dump into the footwell. 🚨 Immediate Actions You Should Take Before you find the source, and to prevent further damage, here's what you should do right away: · Remove the Water: Soak up as much water as possible with towels. For the large pool under the carpet, using a wet/dry shop vacuum is the most effective method. This is crucial to start the drying process. · Dry the Area Thoroughly: After extracting the water, promote drying by lifting the carpet if possible and using a powerful fan or a dehumidifier in the car for a day or two. Lingering moisture will continue to cause condensation and mold. · Address the Electrical Issue: The problem with your blower not blowing hot is likely related to water damage. Moisture can corrode connectors and control modules under the seat or dashboard. Once the area is completely dry, the electrical function may return, but corroded components may need professional inspection and replacement. Not my work but an AI that I use Hopefully it’s helpful John
  18. Some care have only a wired connection for Car Play, some only a wireless and some both. It might be worth checking yours👍
  19. Mk 4 SE L has only 1 brolly as well mate John
  20. @John625, I hadn’t thought to check the usb c ports, maybe next time I’m out👍 Took photos og the mapping whilst out today. Very strange, CarPlay up and running with a route ready to go on the entertainment screen, on the drivers screen it’s showing the same route but a different map layout. The photos will explain all, note the distance is the same.
  21. I handed I’ve my 67 plate 2.0tdi 140 Passat estate on Thursday morning. Manual box, always ran the Conti eco contact, 6’s were fitted last, but earlier version before them. Average mileage 10-12k a year. MPG warmer months 65 ish MPG colder months 58 ish I hope the Superb Estate 2.0tdi I replaced it with SE L , comes within 1 or 2mpg of that. Time will tell, I don’t expect to achieve that before a couple of thousand miles as it won’t be anywhere near run in before about 10K. I do 70/30 long range +20 miles to running around town. John
  22. Picked up my new Superb on Thursday ……… The only two things I’d requested/ordered were: The Paint Protection Mud flaps front and Rear They had a few weeks notice on both of these however……. Firstly I was told they’d ordered the wrong pair I’ve no idea or care if it was front or rear. Later told out of stock…… So they didn’t fit the other pair 🤷‍♂️ They have said that they will collect mine, leave a courtesy car and get it done hopefully next week. Everyone gets 1 chance in my book. John
  23. Gareth, Hopefully it will sort your issues. The new version seems to have many fewer issues……..🤞 John
  24. Cedwing, I’ll double check later when I go out. I’m sure it’s the actual maps. I’ve spent some time going over the features yesterday, there’s such a big difference between this car and a 67 plate manual Passat 😎
  25. I Picked up my Black Superb yesterday afternoon. On the way home via Tesco’s to full up, everything thing seemed to work as it should. No problems from anything. This morning, I went out early, taking the boss shopping. I had the (now common it seems) issues with the safety systems and either the camera/sensors in front of the drivers rear view mirror or the radar block. With the safety’s systems are inoperable type message. That went way in about a mile or so. Later on, I went out and set everything up to my liking (no doubt I’ll need to change something going forwards. I noticed a couple of items that seem to be different from post I’ve read on the Superb sub section: My interior 12v socket is live with the ignition off, my plug in adapter has a power light so it’s hard to miss. On CarPlay, I can have Google maps on both screens active at the same time. Swipe to open the boot was about 50-50 working or not. I have a dipstick 👍 It’s to soon to make a final decision, however, all’s looking good at the start of our journey together. The steering is very positive and turning circle nice and tight. Power train is possibly a fraction quieter than my Passat of same engine/power but manual box The auto box is just as smooth and responsive as my A3 of same engine and auto box. The boss is impressed - that’s a very good thing as she loved our previous VAG cars🥳 Overall mostly what I’d expected/hoped for I’ll post more after a few thousand miles\
