  1. When my Octy was done many years ago the mechanic took the whole arm off and pressed the bush out in a press to change the seized bushes and essentric nut and bolt.
  2. The 2lt turbo was known to be a little weak on the mk2 from what I have read on here 1.9 a little lesser known. The outlay on a new car and depreciation could be just as big a cost as say a turbo or clutch/DMF. The road tax is a factor I suppose but the savings aren’t massive. Our 1.2 105 TSI Leon is a good replacement for a 1.9TDI I love the turbo charged pull, still I love the PD shove against my Superb 2 170 CR. Please drive a CR engine see if you like it.
  3. There is a company called SGS engineering people go on about when replacing electric ones for gas.
  4. If the Octy has been mostly trouble free hang on to it. They go on for miles as I am sure you know. As you say when looking you come back to Octavia again. Otherwise consider a petrol to avoid all the diesel related issues. 1.5TSi looks like a decent engine, although that appears to be fairly young cars which may be outside your budget. I personally considered a 2010 100k 1.9tdi as a potential replacement for my 2005 1.9tdi 250k, if it ever came to it.
  5. Once you’ve had a superb you can’t go backwards 😜 I am the same as you S2 estate and Octy hatch. The estate comes in handy once in a while
  6. I would say around 1k private is where a lot of cars seem to hang around after certain age or miles. You do have the option to stick it here in the classifieds
  7. Plus one for DSG stat and an easy DIY change. Loads of write ups on this forum too.
  8. I don’t believe the 1.9 and 2lt are compatible clutch or flywheel wise. I hope someone will come along and confirm that also.
  9. I performed a test on mine only a local 2 mile journey today. From start it was running at 1k rpm, all the way to the destination. On the way back I turned off the climate and fans. By the time I got home the revs had settled down. After pulling on to the drive I turned the climate inc AC back on and the revs rose back up to 1k again. Turning off within 30 seconds made no diffence. I turned the engine off after a minute of high idle. So for me on a S2 170 TDI DSG 2011, non stop start. This is the behaviour
  10. Don’t know until you try. If you are freedom list them here for free first?
  11. Not sure if it’s linked is the air con on? Try turning it and the fan controls to off.
  12. Could they be bendy beam Xenon bulbs ?
  13. Isn’t there a website that shows how many cars are left on the road or sorn? Just googled it www.howmanyleft.co.uk Not sure if it will give you precisely what you want.
  14. My own view plus what I have read in here. Keep below 2k rpm until warm. Meaning engine temp. Although as soon as I get on the motorway within 1 mile it’s over that in 5th. I believe its a warning not to thrash engine when cold. Let the engine idle after a long drive for a minute before turning off. This could be turbo advice in some cases. Give it some beans now and again when up to temperature. Keep the internals clean. I don’t mean the red line. These engines certainly don’t rev easy past a certain point. I don’t think low local miles does these cars any favours, but then again not heard any bad news either. Diesels are well suited on long drives for economy and longevity. Regular 10k or annual oil changes help. Coming from over 20 years of turbo diesels, I find the lack of grunt in modern petrols disappointing and even more so the CR diesels In VAG. I just got used to the torque at low revs and anything over I felt like I was a boy racer. We have a 1.2TSI in the family and it’s quite close MPG wise to a TDI and the added turbo means on paper it delivers the same BHP but differently, feels sprightly all the same. Diesel tax means these old trusty 1.9 cars may not be around for long, I still have a soft spot for them. Rant over.
  15. Skoda wise Columbus depending on age may need a new additional component(BCM)? to prevent battery drain issues. Not sure if the later models Amusden or Swing are compatible. Some people go Kenwood aftermarket or Android with very mixed reviews. It all depends what you want. Bluetooth, Nav, SD card etc etc?
  16. My 2005 had a lot of surface rust with 250k on its under carriage. My view is years of up and down the motorway in all weathers has not helped the longevity of any suspension components. However with the exception of the NSF spring which split. It’s all original. That really is a scary situation and could have caused a nasty accident. It’s a good thing it’s been rectified
  17. Still on eBay now the seller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201438765875
  18. If it’s a TDI like mine I upgraded it to a type 096/100. Fits perfectly in the space jacket on it too. I went cheap eBay 3-4 year warranty from ABS batteries. Was about £55 delivered next day that was many years back though.
  19. Radio should be coded to the car so no issues there. If it’s a stop start car the battery needs coding to the car. Otherwise I believe straight swap. Edit I see you have a 2006. So no stop start
  20. We have a resident expert on here always willing to help @Rustynuts. Hopefully will be along soon to advise.
  21. Happy birthday Brisky and thanks to Colin for holding it together and all other contributors and admins.
  22. Some may say it could be the headlight ballast. I have no experience in this yet. Someone will be along soon to help.
  23. Not far off your 1350 estimate. Hopefully many years of trouble free motoring now
  24. Was it the Essentric bushes which hold the rear bushes on the rear arms to the centre of the car? They are used to adjust the alignment. For some reason always a weak point in Skoda!
  25. Is it a manual? if it’s a DSG. It’s common for the DSG stat to cause this issues.
