The AA Book of the Car
My parents gave me a first edition (the one with the engine-turned cover) for Christmas in 1970. It was probably the most fascinating and informative book I've ever read. It enabled me to maintain cars I would not otherwise have been able to afford to run.

What material are waterpumps made from on the Fabia 3?
@hetty1 If it's of any consolation, the water pump on my 2017 110 Yeti failed at 4 years and 15,000 miles. I felt very "cheesed off" too. Replacement would have cost in excess of £400 if I had not already spent £525 on an extended warranty when I bought the car. Not impressed.

Been there, done that...

New water pump and belt.
I hope your 'trusted indie' prices are significantly lower than main dealer prices. The water pump on mine failed last month after 4 years and 15,000 miles. Replacement would have cost more than £400 - if I hadn't already spent £525 on an extended warranty when I bought the car.

Skoda Roadside Assistance
And very good it is, too. The Moll battery on my Yeti failed after 2 years and the car would not start one morning. I called Skoda Assist and a Technician arrived within the hour. He changed the battery under warranty, coded it, and was away in half an hour. Exemplary service.

Roomster Scout (2010) Tow bar electric question
My 2009 Roomster Scout had this removable panel (but no tow bar). I'm reasonably certain this panel was part of the styling of all Roomster Scouts. Hopefully someone else will come along and confirm.

Untraceable Rattle
If the noise is coming from the back of the car, then the tailgate stops might be in need of adjustment. This is a known cause of rattles on Yetis. Try winding them out one turn to see if it makes any difference.

5 years on and still happy.
I'm rapidly coming around to your way of thinking, Jerry. Yetis similar to mine are currently selling for £12k to £13k. So if I were to decide to replace my Yeti with (for example) a Kamiq, then I would need to find an additional £10k to £11k in order to fund the purchase. If on the other hand I were to keep my Yeti, the £10k to £11k saving should easily cover the cost of any "repairs" my Yeti is ever likely to need.

5 years on and still happy.
They all looked odd, Colin I had two of them. Best cars ever! My Yeti is four years old. Last year the battery had to be replaced, fortunately under warranty. This year, the water pump had to be replaced - at just 15,000 miles. Next year, the extended warranty I purchased with the car runs out and I am not sure I would want to own a DSG-equipped car out of warranty. But there is no other car currently on the market that appeals to me. Decisions... Decisions...

Goodbye
Wish you well, Moley. Maybe take a sabbatical? Maybe reconsider your decision in a few months' time? I have been tempted to walk away from Brisky many times, particularly when Mike and Andy moved on. But the reality is there are a lot of truly decent, helpful folk on here whose company I would miss. Like others on here, I just ignore the few names that irritate and I continue to enjoy and participate in one of the best Forums there is. Whatever your decision, all the best for the future

Should I routinely update the BIOS on my laptop?
Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help and advice. Every day is a learning day

Should I routinely update the BIOS on my laptop?
I’m not especially computer savvy so please bear with me. I recently had to return my HP W10 laptop for repair under warranty after it started to randomly freeze and restart. The repair agent found the problem was caused by an outdated BIOS. He updated the BIOS and returned the laptop to me, and all is well. I’ve never (knowingly) had to update BIOS during thirty years of computer ownership, so I Googled to see if it were something I should be doing routinely. Different websites hold different opinions on this, from “Yes – it will keep your computer running smoothly” to “No – it could brick your computer”. May I please ask our Brisky experts’ opinions on this? Should I, or should I not routinely update the BIOS? Many thanks.

roof rail cover
The covers simply clip into place and have been known to go missing while the vehicle is parked. Some owners, myself included, glue the covers into place to prevent this.

Yeti 110 Limp Mode
Remember... if you take it to a dealer for any work to be done, they will probably apply the 'fix' automatically unless you give them specific instructions not to. You may have to sign a disclaimer.

Plethora of Warning Lights!
My guess would be the battery is failing. Measure the resting voltage one morning after leaving the car standing overnight. Do this before you switch on the ignition or start the car. The resting voltage should be an absolute minimum of 12.4V and ideally nearer 12.7V.

Just a coincidence? Rear wiper, rear tailgate lock & reg number plate lights not working...
My guess would be broken wire(s) within the trunking at the top of the tailgate. These have been known to fail with repeated opening and closing of the tailgate.

engine rattle on start-up
My 2013 Roomster did this. The rattle disappeared after the oil and filter were changed at the next service.
- Roomster ... or Dumpster

Electrical oddities (4 of)
Not only Fabias & Roomsters, but also Yetis. I'm on a Yeti-specific Forum where owners of early Yetis have reported all manner of seemingly unrelated faults caused by broken wires in the door bellows. Not sure about Fabias but later Yetis used a modified wiring loom to overcome the problem.

Scout CV joint
I think you'll find Scout is mechanically identical to S and SE models, the only differences being trim. Unlike S and SE models, Scout models came with roof rails - which might account for the additional 41mm of height.
