  1. Copy the CD onto an SD card or a USB stick?
  2. You need to separate the causes of noise: 1) petrol engines create less vibration and noise than diesel engines so create less engine related boom, BUT... 2) road and wind noise are not dependent on the engine type so when road and/or wind generated noise are at least 3dB louder than engine induced noise the engine type is irrelevant.
  3. Easy to say until you get stopped for some other reason and the PC's take a look round the vehicle, if they spot blue lights they will metaphorically 'throw the book at you' and check EVERYTHING else (tyres, MOT, insurance, driving licence, penalty points, etc.). Not worth the risk IMHO.
  4. Not true, many (most?) people on here mod their cars - BUT legally, which blue lights showing most definitely is not. While that's true we are not representative of most buyers (who tend not to join owners forums) and for them ANY mods will stop them buying. I guess it all boils down to whether you want the best chance to sell or are prepared to wait for an enthusiast buyer to come along?
  5. Not necessarily true - my 2015 Elegance has headlight washers but has Halogen headlights. How come? - the headlight washers were an option that the original purchaser specified.
  6. Is it that Merc have stood still and Red Bull have gained pace? Or have Merc lost pace and Red Bull stood still?
  7. ... why the wind deflectors I ordered in November are still sitting indoors waiting for the warmer weather before I fit them
  8. The H15 bulb is a dual filament bulb - one used for DRL and the other for high (main) beam - neither for low (dipped) beam unless the BCM leuchte channels have been changed from factory settings.
  9. Software glitch? I've had several strange behaviours from the MIB1 Amundsen in our Octavia: 1) several occasions when navigation sits forever displaying "starting" message. Rebooting (long press on power button) has restored it every time (so far). 2) one occasion when instead of muting the radio when making a navigation announcement it turned the radio up to max volume (which made me jump!) and then tried to talk over it. Neither rebooting nor ignition off/on corrected it, only leaving the car overnight got it working normally again.
  10. PetrolDave replied to daver132's topic in Skoda Karoq
Ask a dealer? Check the online configurator?
  11. The 1.4TSI engine in the Octavia III is the CHPA engine, which does not have a timing chain (it has a timing belt), if you search this Octavia III forum you will see owners have not had problems with the injectors either. We've had ours for 5 years now (bought when 1 year old) and not had any engine problems at all. I suspect you are looking at information for the older 1.4TSI engine not the one fitted to the Octavia III.
  12. More proof that the published CO2 figures have little or no relationship to what happens in the real world!
  13. All three of the cars I mentioned have 'achieved' near enough 45mpg over the period of ownership - so in my experience CO2 output really isn't a guide to real world mpg. Another example - my previous Audi B7 RS4 had the same basic engine as the later B8 RS4 (4.2 V8) but the B8 version had an improved inlet manifold so it developed 40bhp more, yet Audi claimed CO2 emissions approximately 30% lower???
  14. Too many people buying low CO2 cars meant the Governments 'take' on Road Tax fell a lot, so they decided they needed to change to system so there's no longer any incentive to run a low CO2 car. My 2015 Octavia (119g/km) is £30, my (now gone) 2008 C1 (109g/km) was £20 but it's replacement 2020 Aygo (99g/km) will be £155!
  15. The latest MOT Regulations specifically state that if either HID or LED bulbs have been fitted to a headlamp only approved for Halogens then that is an MOT fail.
  16. If the spare wheel/tyre combination is a different size to the other 4 wheels/tyres on your car then the 50mph/80kph limit applies, no matter whether the spare is a space saver or a 'normal' wheel/tyre.
  17. The Skoda Update Portal does still show maps for the MIB1 Amundsen if you enter a VIN - but it's the 2020/21 map from June 2020 not the expected 2021 map from November 2020. I've used the VW file (and can confirm that it is 100% identical to the Skoda map) but the VW website is also only offering the 2020/21 map from June 2020 - yes it says it been updated in November but it's lying (I've done a 100% comparison with the June map and it's identical). So it seems the three year or five year limit is unproven? I'll have to hassle Skoda UK AGAIN
  18. @CJJEdo you have a link that confirms that the download free updates is only for 5 years? I ask because neither the Skoda nor VW map download sites have updates for MIB1 Amundsen maps and the MIB1 Amundsen was last fitted to cars built in May 2015. Skoda UK haven't bothered to reply to my email asking why the usual 6 monthly update didn' t happen in week 45 of 2020...
  19. Sounds like the 'Full Self Driving' beta is downright dangerous https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a35878363/teslas-full-self-driving-beta-is-just-laughably-bad-and-potentially-dangerous/
  20. Not on every Skoda - on my 2015 Octavia I needed to buy the dongle before Connect Lite would work.
  21. Simple answer, no.
  22. I think it's already been mentioned that an Amundsen can ONLY read maps from a genuine Skoda SD card...
  23. A Recall is forced on a manufacturer by the relevant country authorities for a serious road safety issue; but Skoda UK, dealers and owners often incorrectly call a Service Campaign a 'Recall'. What is happening at the moment are 'only' Service Campaigns not Recalls.
  24. Then go to the VW map update site https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/car/ , and select 'Golf until 2015' followed by 'Discover Media' then download the Europe maps - they are 100% identical to the Skoda maps (yes I have done a 100% byte for byte comparison).
  25. Yes, both MIB1 and MIB2 Amundsen will only read maps off a genuine Skoda SD card - there are usually plenty on eBay (I've got mine off eBay). It doesn't matter if you get the 5E0 prefix card or the 5L0 prefix card, the MIB1 Amundsen will work with both (I alternate between a 5E0 and a 5L0 card). And the suffix doesn't matter because you can download the latest maps from the Skoda Update Portal by entering your VIN. Currently there are 31 Skoda SD cards on the UK eBay...
