  1. Totally agree, my AC is also on 24/7/365 ever since I've had aircon (which is 23 years now).
  2. For several years now VAG vehicles (at least) have had a compressor that it always engaged (there is no clutch), but the compressor has a variable vane type system which is used to control the compressor performance more accurately than the simple on/off possible with a clutch system. So the question as to whether the AC is on or off isn't a simple one, it's actually how much on is the AC (0%, 100% or somewhere in between).
  3. Work done over 30 years ago at Lotus found that the boom was caused by tiny vibration inputs exciting cabin resonances. These inputs can come from engine imbalances (especially with an inline 4 cylinder engine which has out-of-balance forces at twice engine rpm) and road vibrations fed through the suspension. These are both low frequencies which need lots of heavy sound deadening to prevent the cabin resonances being excited, hence why the boom is worse on non-premium brands and is becoming worse with the emphasis on light weight (thinner panels will have stronger resonances). So the first question to ask is whether the frequency (tone) of the boom is related to engine speed or road speed. Then you know whether to try and reduce engine vibration inputs or road vibration inputs.
  4. ... because the SD card needs to be a Skoda (or VW) branded one not a generic one as the Amundsen checks the card CID. The cards are easily available on eBay (other auction sites are available) for much less than a dealer will charge - I recently got a genuine Skoda 32GB SD card for GBP26.09
  5. Classic Shell I've been using Classic Shell on W7, W8.1, W10 & W11 PCs ever since W7 made an appearance.
  6. Just turned it off on mine this morning 👍
  7. Sorry no, but I reckon someone on here will know and post details.
  8. It was also there on the previous Octavia 3 from 2013, VAG seem to think it's a useful option ⁉️
  9. I suspect the B109515 fault code is the clue, and suggests that the servo motor which controls the right side temperature flap is not operating correctly as it's unable to correctly sense the flap position.
  10. That's assuming the driver sees the pedestrian, who may be hidden behind parked vehicles. As with all road safety issues there's no easy answer, but if the injury/death rate of pedestrians is seen to rise involving EVs compared to ICEs you can be 100% sure that the media will get onto the story, so better to not even get to that point.
  11. What about the villages with 40, 50 or even 60 speed limits? Pedestrians need to hear an oncoming vehicle not just see it (especially if they are blind or partially sighted)? IMHO as well as a maximum noise level (been part of Type Approval for years) there should also be a minimum speed related noise level for ALL vehicles and if that can't be met by tyre & wind noise then a fake sound is necessary.
  12. Since the Waze app works fine with cars not on the MQBEvo platform, I don't 100% agree with that statement on erWin. There's an incompatibility with Waze but whether it's poor software design/implementation by Waze or by VAG is an open point.
  13. Mine was the offside rear wheel speed sensor which is integrated into the wheel bearing so it was £500 at Marshalls Barnstaple. Not sure about the cost if it is a front wheel speed sensor - you need a proper scan to know which wheel speed sensor is faulty.
  14. That's perfectly normal for all Octavia 3's - it's the battery management system operating as designed to keep the battery state of charge to 80% to allow headroom for some minor regenerative braking.
  15. Sounds like a Mark 4 Octavia specific issue as I use Google maps and Waze with CarPlay in my Mark 3 Octavia with no problems.
  16. If you enter your VIN onto the Skoda update portal you can download a file with lots of station logos.
  17. I prefer VCDS, yes you have to learn about details of the changes, but at least you know what you're doing and VCDS keeps logs of all the changes to coding and adaptations so if you make a mess you can fairly easily revert back.
  18. ... according to the diagnostics, but as some of those 'calculations' are not based on measured data but estimated the values may not reflect reality especially if there have been other sources of soot/ash i.e. engine oil.
  19. Sounds like you need to take a thorough look at the Leuchte adaptations in the BCM, these control the lighting and it sounds like they could have been messed with.
  20. Intrigued why the 1.5ACT cambelt change would be so much more than a 1.4 non-ACT since they are both an EA211 engine?
  21. Typically the change of manufacturing takes place during the summer factory closure, which would mean that the facelift would be a MY24 available in autumn/fall 2023.
  22. One of the reasons that cars have 3 rear brake lights - the CHMSL (centre high mounted stop light) was introduced so that it's easy to tell the difference between rear side lights, rear for lights and brake lights. If a following driver cannot see the third light coming on when the brakes are applied, then you have to question whether they should be driving at all...
  23. I've never bought the nav SD card for an Amundsen from a dealer, always from eBay. Just got a 32GB one so I can use the 'all Europe' maps on my MIB2, cost? £26.09
