1.6tdi CAYC EGR
That's good enough for me, I'm not looking to do VAG's development I just want my car to run ok. As to apps in the absence of VCDS; the Carista dongle is useful for logging regens, ash residue etc using VAG DPF, and the Carista app can be used to start a regen - personally I think it's pretty useless for anything else, but the dongle is £25 so hey-ho.

@J.R. Any update with your EGR simulator? I'm edging closer to a purchase and I'd be interested in your progress

Amundsen+ DAB issues
Now working perfectly thanks to the fine work of Alex at VW Retrofit in Redditch, even with the **** aerial !

Amundsen+ DAB issues
I've been by a few people told that this is probably due to my aged micro-can vcds cable. I'm due to see Alex at VW Retrofit later, I'm confident he can resolve it.

Amundsen+ DAB issues
Having not used DAB on the unit before I have fitted a suitable aerial to the socket on the back of the unit and the aerial powered up ok. Label on the unit confirms Bluetooth and DAB. My problem is how to select the DAB frequency; I have unticked the option in VCDS Navigation menu to allow DAB to function and the coding was accepted, Digital Radio enabled in Canbus menu - but I only get options for AM and FM. What am I doing wrong folks?

1.6tdi CAYC EGR
Well the hateful CAYC lump in my car is still giving huge problems; after a month of blanket bombing with Esso, Forte, Wynn's Injector Cleaner and ECP DC980 the car has been freeing up nicely and limp mode events have been rare. However, today things changed - on the outward journey to Kenilworth today (30 miles) the car was perfect, good boost and no issues. The return trip was a different matter; 40+ limp mode episodes which happened in a while variety of situations including in town, at traffic lights, coasting downhill, driving uphill and slightly lifting the throttle, overtaking in lane 3 of the M42 and a few miles later still on M42 there was a firm but brief thump from the engine which focussed my mind somewhat. Carista gave a range of error codes, none of which can be searched including; 07336, 07462, 07385, 09839 I am due to take it to Cornwall soon, a round trip of 500+ miles but I have NO faith in the car whatsoever, the limp mode events are manageable but if this escalates ... Much as I love the car, I think it will be gone before the end of the month.

Steering wheel controls- audio side not working
Have a look at the VCDS pages, or get a cable of your own - beware, there are thousands of chinese copies about, expect to pay about £230 for a genuine Ross-Tech cable.

Steering wheel controls- audio side not working
Seems like this was an OEM extra, probably cost a fortune too ! I would imagine this is either a physical fault (wiring, or clockspring attachment is a club fingered DIY has been attempted), or the coding for this unit has been lost. First job, and one that doesn't require any dismantling) is to get a VCDS scan for faults, and to check what coding is in situ.

Citigo ASG
Resurrecting an old thread whilst researching a car for a family member ... I note the ASG gearbox works on the same principle as the Smart 451 gearbox in that an actuator motor operates the clutch, and that this motor causes some problems. Having owned 6 Smart cars over 21 years I am familiar with actuator problems and have practiced preventative maintenance on all 6 cars, this is widely down in Smart circles and is cheap and effective. I don't know the details of the ASG actuator but on the Smart by putting it in reverse it's possible to squeeze the plastic pipe of a tin of white lithium spray into the mechanism itself via the rod that operates the clutch, and I simply emptied a can into the actuator once a year - it was VERY effective, Smart owning friends referred to the change on my car being as smooth as greased weasel poo I thought I'd put it out there as it may work on the ASG.

I wonder where "effing effing EGR" is in the world ?

1.6tdi CAYC EGR
I wonder how many folks with DPF and EGR issues would actually mind that much if there was a runaway event ?

No, doesn't use any oil

1.6tdi CAYC EGR
I've spent this morning looking at the EGR tune to the inlet manifold and the EGR mixer. I cleaned tube and mixer only 5k miles ago, to a shine ... I was surprised to find both heavily clogged this morning (no photos, sorry). Last time I cleaned the EGR mixer I turned it through 180 degrees so it was now facing the engine to try and minimize this problem. This is despite using Esso diesel, Archoil and Forte regularly. And it still goes into limp mode on partial throttle or coasting !

Sounds like I need advice from another mapper

1.6tdi CAYC EGR
@KenONeillI've heard that the innards can be removed and then the opening re-welded so it's not obvious at MOT time, but what happens to the DPF pressure sensor, NOX sensor etc? Do they raise other problems? @J.R. I was hoping you would have some better news regarding your EGR emulator! I'm convinced a gummed up EGR is the root of my problems. Do you this it's not working so well because the 'fix' software/hardware is still in situ? And what is your opinion of the remap, does it raise exhaust temp? Was it worth doing? Pre and during regen the car is pretty undrivable car, at tickover the revs rose from 850-1000 every few seconds and when driving went into limp mode 20 times (my 10yr old kept count!) on flat roads or very slight inclines in less than 5 miles , each time it cleared when the ignition was cycled. Unusually the DPF light came on which has never happened before, I normally only notice the smell and the raised revs. The light was on for only a few miles and then the car returned to its usual self - good boost, but with a transient turbo whistle which is much worse during regen for some reason. Suggestions are welcomed - a search of the forum shows this is not an uncommon problem, but of the threads I've read the OP never finishes the story off so that other members can learn. ... perhaps the solution is to sell the car?

1.6tdi CAYC EGR
So my remapper has stated that an EGR delete is a very bad idea for this engine as it will mess with the DPF, whether this is because his map doesn't feature this is open to speculation. I seem to have read that many others have had a remap with EGR delete on this widely used engine without issue, but I'm no expert. I'm getting limp mode even on a steady throttle on a flat road, and a healthy turbo whistle during the frequent regens. I have to do something, and the kitty won't fund a new EGR, so ... 1) Try another remapper? 2) Try EGR emulator ?

Xenon light intensity
Probably wiser to spend the available funds replacing the levelling mechanism that sits on the rear suspension, so that the available light is aimed correctly.

Skoda Yeti noise at rear
Just a thought - the hard plastic rear shock cover often breaks and slides down the shock until it sits on the bracket. The noise this made on my old Touran was amazing as it sounded all around the back of the car, and it was road speed.

Spider ate my door loom
Not terribly practical to take the guts out of the door just for a part number? It's not a 5 minute job.

Timing Belt replacement
Just fitted a cambelt and water pump on the 1.6tdi this week; I bought a Bosch kit from Autodoc for (from memory) £192 with a view to fitting it myself. A bad encounter with Pfizer has left me unable to attempt anything physical at the moment, so it was fitted by a trusted garage for £250 which included the G13+.

Spider ate my door loom
Thinking along the lines of corporate parts bin, and on the basis that other models sold in bigger numbers etc - will the drivers door loom from another model ie Octavia, Superb of the same year fit?
-
Spider ate my door loom
@Wino Thanks, I'll take a look. To be honest, I was looking at the new loom route as the thought of all that soldering doesn't give me the horn - I'm a pen-pusher and as someone once said 'man's gotta know his limitations'

Spider ate my door loom
To be honest the whole bundle look pretty brittle, I don't think repairs will be practical. I've done some searching this afternoon and I have a feeling this is going to be expensive, there are no used ones on eBay and in any case they are likely to be in the same position.

Spider ate my door loom
@Wino thanks, that would be good to know - perhaps a repair of one wire will suffice until I get more symptoms? It's a 2012 Greenline S
