  1. You can't run it on Sunday market oil, it's a PD engine so it HAS to have the correct spec. or the top end will get scrapped VERY quickly, 505.01 or 507, whichever you can get cheapest, don't get distracted by brand or viscosity, synthetic or semi-syn. Only the spec. matters, nothing else.
  2. Check for vacuum leaks, splits in the brake servo pipe particularly.
  3. The purple gasket and blanking plate is to block the coolant flow to the deleted EGR valve. You have the rest of it right.
  4. Just clearing faults usually resets the map, even if there are no faults to clear.
  5. Try clearing the dynamic map, over time they tend to overlean slightly causing the symptoms you describe.
  6. Considered too dangerous. Yes 110V even though it makes no real sense.
  7. Don't do 0-60 unless you wanna buy a new clutch and fly, the gearbox isn't very strong either. Sounds like a terrible map, get it reflashed.
  8. Nearly, the other two are 7" and 9" because 9" are banned from most sites now. But you're close enough for government work.
  9. I have four angle grinders but everyone should have at least one, a 115mm version with a 1mm cutting disc is perfect.
  10. A Dremel will split the nut easily enough if you don't have a grinder.
  11. Ah, oh dear. Exhaust valves no bueno.
  12. Use the electric spinning wheel of death.
  13. I would check the brake servo hose for splits, particularly around joints.
  14. ...I'm just trying to help. Pedantry is a symptom of an underlying condition, broadly, it's the expression of a desire for a level of certainty and precision which cannot realistically be achieved.
  15. I think he means the handbrake cable.
  16. 1. New. 2. Scrapyard. 3. Out of business with prices that low I should think.
  17. 1.6 TDI for you then.
  18. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/18000/P1592/005522 Get to it, check the wiring and connectors first, disconnect the MAF, then clean the engine earths, replace the MAP sensor only as a last resort.
  19. I haven't seen piston slap in years, modern engines are so finely toleranced and oils so good that I can't imagine how it would happen. If you have enough skirt wear for the piston to rock in the bore that much then oil blowby is a certainty so I'm not sure why you don't agree Ken other than that you're inherently argumentative.
  20. It's not piston slap, the car would smoke like a chimney if it were. It's more likely to be detonation, have you checked the spark plugs?
  21. It's unavoidable due to the engine breather venting into the intake. Nothing to worry about.
  22. You need to check for intake leaks, you can buy a can of leak testing smoke to help with this. Then you need to get the wiring loom checked, the faults you have listed do not support a scattergun parts replacement strategy so it's of no interest to most garages.
  23. Brilliant, who knew focusing on form over function could be an entire alternative philosophical worldview.
