shallow sump question
Really?

Steering fault *possible steering rack*
It won't be the rack, it'll be the pump or the sensor unless you have a dodgy battery or alternator.

Mechatronic leaking?
Just for the sake of clarity, hydraulic oil is much of a muchness, I'm not suggesting deviating from spec. but worrying about what colour dye has been added to the oil is a red herring. As you can see, your DSG has had the recall work done and the oil is now golden instead of green, this isn't important, the dye is added during manufacture to help spot leaks and pinpoint their origin.

Did you miss that part? Ah, volumetric estimation by looking at different pictures, a rare skill indeed.

If nothing else fitting those bushes will sharpen up the steering and make cornering feel much more stable.

It's not mileage that perishes rubber, it's age.

Octy is the same as the Golf Mark 4, so the bushes are radial rather than axial in the lower wishbone.

For many, decision-making is not part of their primary skillset, actually for most it doesn't even make it onto the list, they're too busy experiencing emoshuns and thinking about relayshunships to be rational.

I used Cupra bushes on my first Fabia, horrible to fit but good performance. I used PSB on this Fabia, easy to fit, same performance. Powerflex are just as good and just as easy to fit but much more expensive. It's what the Americans call a "no-brainer" for the hard-of-thinking.

I know they've cancelled HS2 but surely there's a decent public transport network covering Yorkshire and Lancashire, try further afield!

Come home to a real fire, buy a Zafira... Are you kidding me, Vauxhall are probably the least reliable cars on the road!

No, look 'em up on ebay, much cheaper and just as effective.

I used a hacksaw blade to remove the old ones, they come out easily once split, if you use PSB bushes you don't need special tools to fit them.

shallow sump question
I doubt the capacity is different, merely the shape. There's a lot of overthinking going on in here!

shallow sump question
I've no idea what the capacity of the new sump will be, the point is the level will be the same because that's dictated by the crank height, you don't want the crank and rod caps touching the surface of the oil leading to parasitic windage losses and oil foaming. Put oil in it until it's at the correct level on the dipstick ok.

Back with anther issue P0171 & P0106 ( thank got MOT passed before these errors)
No, but it clears the dynamic map so any bad sensor inputs will be deleted. I swear we've been round this loop before. Later Mark 2's have non-volatile memory so it doesn't work on them. What fault codes do you have? Post here and you never know, I might be able to help.
-
shallow sump question
No, the dipstick doesn't measure the depth of oil in the sump, only the level, so it doesn't make any difference.

ECT sensor will not give codes, it will just tell the ECU the wrong temperature, if you disconnect it the engine might run better.

I agree it's electrical, in twelve years on here I have never heard of a 1.4 16V blowing a head gasket, or even snapping a cambelt, they are incredibly mechanically robust but the electronic systems are junk, and I repeat, there is NO MAF on this engine, please tell your clueless mechanic this and the catalyst will be just fine, petrol will clean a cat, it's oil that's bad for them. I'd replace the ECT sensor and the precat lambda probe to start with.

car recommendation?
Don't worry, others are laughing at it. The most important thing is not to overthink this decision, you need another car, you are short of money, buy a cheap high mileage car in good condition that's been well looked after. Dimwits avoid high mileage cars like the plague because they mistakenly believe they will be unreliable, high mileage cars have spent most of their lives clocking those miles up on the motorway network sitting in top gear. Low mileage cars from big cities are the least reliable.

It's a humourous quote from the movie "Snatch", my, my, you have led a sheltered life.

If it's a Mark 1 1.4 16V it'll work just fine.

How often do you need to move seven people all at once? I'll bet it's hardly ever, so don't buy a massive gas guzzling boat, buy an Octavia or Fabia PD100 estate.
