  1. I wouldn't count on it, they still point at aeroplanes down there, a man with three different hammers is classed as a skilled mechanic. You might find a decent machine shop in Plymouth if you're lucky.
  2. Not a chance. That muppet mechanic knew the job wasn't done right so he's blaming the coolant.
  3. Like dogs sniffing each other, are you SERIOUSLY going to post every time you see another Furby?
  4. Ok, so I'm going to be completely blunt with you, if your stop/start system barely ever kicks in or you drive everywhere with it switched off then you can use a normal cheap battery but the cars fault warning system might not like it and I can't promise it won't. I don't understand why you keep charging the battery when you aren't using it, AGM batteries are designed to sit for months with little loss of charge, you must stop doing that because you might have damaged the battery prematurely. In your situation I wouldn't even bother replacing the battery until you have actual evidence that it's failing, particularly now the cold weather is behind us.
  5. Living in the Southeast corner of the UK means very mild winters so as far as I'm concerned it's only the corrosion inhibitors I really need and since my coolant is still pink that'll do me, it really is possible to get too precious about this sort of thing, life is short and painful enough without fannying about with stuff that doesn't really need doing.
  6. It certainly does. ...and you don't need to change your coolant unless it's become dilute through topping up with plain water.
  7. Of course you can, they're not stepper motors, just cheap DC motors.
  8. I wouldn't use it at all if I were you.
  9. That's because the Ibiza was so brutally ugly.
  10. What a fecund imagination someone has, what the hell even is a turbo surge?
  11. It's so difficult trying stop these kids from turning a perfectly serviceable vehicle into an ornament complete with its own roof garden and interior water feature. If you drive as much as I do you see these tragic objects everywhere, crying out for Car SOS to intervene or for the scrap man to just come and drag it away.
  12. Here is wisdom. I gave up on my 16V conversion when I changed the clutch and realised it will barely hold the 8V engine, it's tiny and there's no physical room in the low-profile bell housing for a larger one, these kinds of packaging restraints are what happens when you fit the engine and gearbox from a wider Golf platform into the narrower Polo platform, you can't make the crankshaft or the layshafts shorter so you have to fit a tiny clutch and flywheel between them. I may be able to have a stronger competition clutch made for the tiny flywheel but that would probably cost at least a thousand pounds and spending that much money is simply unrealistic. In the meantime my 2.0 is in daily use and the 16V engine is still on the pallet behind the shed. Nothing ventured, nothing lost.
  13. Chinese rubbish from ECP?
  14. I would always change the console bushes for PU as it's a huge improvement in handling, the rest are not really worth bothering with.
  15. Except it wipes the dynamic map...
  16. So just swap the engine out for a complete AUB and ECU if you're determined to increase the power, it's a straight swap you can get done in a day if you have the tools and the talent.
  17. I'm afraid it's a total waste of time and money, you'll end up with what was a perfectly good car in bits that doesn't work any more, then you'll lose interest and buy something faster. So just cut out the stupid part, sell that car and buy a faster car.
  18. I guess the ECU thinks the engine is very cold, try disconnecting the ECT sensor to see if it improves.
  19. Ok then you must change the ECT sensor because the ECU is not reading the temperature correctly. Open loop is basically on choke, as soon as the engine is warm enough the ECU should switch to closed loop.
  20. I would replace the pre-cat lambda probe if the car won't operate on closed loop properly. If it's never been replaced then it's 20 years old and not to be trusted.
  21. Is it the disc shield touching the disc?
  22. It's humour J.R. not an insult, I'm simply pointing out that a discussion on legality is not relevant to this thread. Donning the fake helmet is a humourous reference to disguising oneself as a member of her majesty's constabulary.
