  1. There will be two separate poles, one for dipped beam and one for main beam. The pole for dipped is probably dead whereas the pole for main will work just fine. Obviously.
  2. No I get that Nige, obviously you don't want main beam if dipped beam is switched off but the OP has already said main beam works so you're putting the cart in front of the horse.
  3. Are you taking the ****? Is that not what I said, main beam is independent of the dipped beam circuit? Am I taking crazy pills here, the stalk makes NO difference to dipped beam function.
  4. Because the OP said he'd already checked the fuses. It's always the bloody switch on VAG cars, that's why.
  5. So how does main beam flash work when the lights are off then? Voodoo magic?
  6. The main rotary light switch, NOT the stalk or the load levelling dial. Simply rotate the switch anticlockwise and pull it out. Just to be doubly extra clear, the stalk ONLY switches main beam on and off, it has nothing to do with dipped beam.
  7. To be fair I've already pointed that out, I'm trying to be honest with the OP to help him, erm now that erm another decade has passed these erm gearboxes are even LESS reliable than they were then! White knighting for your favourite car really isn't very helpful when impartial advice is being sought.
  8. Now, now, no need to panic. Germany is right next door to France so Autodoc will be able to deliver cheaply and even Skoda Parts in CZ will be cheap and quickly delivered.
  9. TPS is the VAG dealer parts network.
  10. It's more like to be the rotary switch than the stalk.
  11. I agree, it's probably the throttle body.
  12. Try pulling the pedal up by hooking your toe under it when it happens.
  13. The parts are so cheap you can afford express delivery from mainland Europe. You check with TPS first obviously.
  14. It could be either really, the loom or the lock, more testing is needed.
  15. No, here, there's been tons of problems with them over the last dozen years or more I've been a regular on here and no problems with the five speed in the PD100, in fact the PD100 is by a distance the most reliable drivetrain available in the Fabia although my 2.0 petrol is pretty solid, but then I have a very similar five speed gearbox. The DMF and the six speed box make the VRS drivetrain much less reliable than the PD130 engine itself.
  16. So it's Euro 5 compliant with a non-volatile memory and needs the codes clearing to reset the map?
  17. That's true but they can and do go out of range due to inaccurate sensors.
  18. It is true of the earlier K-line ECU's, since Euro 5, disconnecting the battery will not reset the dynamic map, you have to use diagnostic software to clear the faults which also clears the map.
  19. A Golf is hardly a big car, you can figure this out for yourself then. I'm out.
  20. No, the six speed is weak, the torque of even a mildly tuned VRS will wreck it.
  21. You forgot to tell him they're all KNACKERED. Not a good gearbox.
  22. No, the internals are different, PD130 has different injectors and camshaft, the injectors are the limiting factor on the PD100, there was a guy with a wildly modified PD100 called @devonutopia Only the VRS has the DMF. Octavia is Golf based, Fabia is a Polo so about 200kg difference. You can buy a Golf TDI estate with the PD130 already in it as cheap as chips and they're more reliable than a VRS and bigger too. If I were going to buy a big estate though I'd buy a high mileage Superb with the 2.0 CR engine in it.
  23. Nowhere near good enough, frankly it's barely adequate for taping parcels.
  24. No, you need duct tape. Go and buy some.
  25. The sheer amount of work needed for that extra 35 BHP beggars belief, it's also non-trivial since the ECU and wiring loom are completely different between PD100 and PD130. this isn't a straightforward scrapyard tune up. You'll be needing a donor car as well as the estate car, lots of dry, well-lit space, proper tools and the talent to use them and it's gonna cost THOUSANDS. ...or you buy the estate car and throw a few hundred quid at it and get 90% of what you want. Now what's it gonna be?
