Timing belt shenanigans
Can you share where it says 50k? Certainly seems too soon and not one I've heard before.

Looking to upgrade head unit on 2013 Octavia
One further feature on columbus I think is the ability to connect 2 bluetooth devices at the same time. Good if you have a work phone alongside your personal one. This may be limited to specific columbus variants.

IV - Non Skoda class 2 charging lead being blamed
That's like blaming a non stock tyre. A joke if you ask me. I had to get a new cable soon after getting my car and never had an issue. Type 2 is a standard and, assuming it's genuinely certified, should work as designed.

L&K Suspension Tweaks
Someone may correct me but electronic suspension is DCC. Maybe the garage you went to has never fitted aftermarket shocks to a DCC setup?

Cost of cambelt change
Decision to stick to 1.4 for the PHEV platform was also tooling. Internal parts are different to the regular 1.4 so they have stuck to that specific engine to save making the same changes to other capacities.

Cracked DSG Gearbox - quoted £7k for repair!!!
Just to confirm the above, DSG boxes are on mileage service regime and not time. So yours is 80k miles. The table in your link is 8 yrs or 80k (or the 4 yrs/40k as as you read which is for the other box type). It's not fair to expect the general public to understand which figure to choose.

Bilstein B6
When my SAs die I'll be swapping out for B6 so maybe I'll be the first on this platform to try both. The issue I have with SAs is the inconsistency. They feel good when cruising. But then when below 50mph they might feel great and supportive or they go soft and wallowy. There's no telling which way they go. The firmer B6 is far more reliable in use. Not had any mechanical issues yet and that's with lowering springs and a stiffer rear bar.

Does my 2.0 TDI sound ok?
Just double checking: post above says 1.6. clip says 2.0. Either way sounds ok to me.

iV versions - Does driving in full electric mode recharge the 9V Battery?
This I'm not sure and haven't found a conclusive answer. It would make sense from a technical use case. But, some other decisions by VW (etc) have made this platform odd compared to others. Some of which make it a nicer car to drive. Gearbox for one.

@ApertureSyes you are right.

Changing the rims from 16' to 18' is a sensible thing to do?
60% of the time it works every time.

Changing the rims from 16' to 18' is a sensible thing to do?
The stock 18 size is 225/40/18. Much lower profile than the 205/55/16. Hence why people are saying that they are a harder ride. That size you are looking at is way out of the realms of usable on the Octavia. Won't fit the wheel wells and the drivetrain will struggle.

Changing the rims from 16' to 18' is a sensible thing to do?
@tootI put 18s on my Octavia that had torsion beam rear end like the 1.5. Granted it was lowered and with B6 shocks but it wasn't that bad.

Bronze alloys on a Black vrs...
Like those. Looks great.

Changing the rims from 16' to 18' is a sensible thing to do?
It's a personal thing. If you are not used to the car and you are new to driving (first car etc) then maybe stick to the 16s. They will be more forgiving and better on fuel. Toots idea to change the wheels at a more convenient time might be good too. For what it's worth tyre reviews in YouTube did a test with the golf with different wheel sizes and found the 17s to be the best compromise for comfort and performance.

iV versions - Does driving in full electric mode recharge the 9V Battery?
To answer the main question yes it does charge the battery. Pretty sure the car needs to be on as that closes the contacts to the 400v battery so will only charge when driving. Also to be clear, the battery you are referring to is 12v like all other car batteries. Not sure where you got 9v from.

Is this roof bar fit close enough or nowhere near.
This is a great idea.

Skoda VRS turbo what is this?
I knew it had a better name and ashamed to say I knew it was the waste gate. Need to brush up.

Skoda VRS turbo what is this?
Is that not the dump valve (probably has a better name)? It's used to regulate the boost pressure and actively opens and closes to modulate the release. Or, it's the variable vane mechanism on the inlet side but doesn't look quite right for that. Been a while since I looked at turbos so don't quote me on any of that.

Load Compensation - Suspension
Very basic solution but I have used spring assisters that solved it short term.

Superb Mk3 suspension upgrade no DCC
Comfort is a subjective thing and also more related to the damping characteristics. But you do need to complement the damping with the springs. If you are after a specific feel (in this order): 1. Dampers (for the feel) 2. Springs (to match the dampers and required ride height) 3. Roll bars (to control the roll to the desired amount) (be aware that this can add to the spring rate so going slightly softer on the main springs won't hurt.
