Nope, if you can get the door card off the inside, and expose the lock mechanism, you can cut open the plastic shell with a sharp stanley blade. then, use 2 allen keys to manually wind back the gears that conteol the deadbolt. 1 to wind it and the other to hold the tension on the spring. once its wound back, just pull the door release arm / cable. then take out the 2 retaining bolts and put in your new mechanism. test test test test test with a screwdriver before you ever think about closing the door.

mmm.... am i right in thinking that outer plastic shell looks hard, but actually isnt very?

if its the same (ish) lock mech as a mk1 octy (and i dont see it bein that different) you can do it with a stanley knife and 2 small allen keys. no violence or hammering required at all...

Ah jaysus, i dont think you meeded to get that violent with either lock. could you post a pic of what that lock looked like? im interested to see if what i was guiding you towards wouldve worked. hopefully help the next guy not need to take the heavy artillery to their doors

@Breezy_Pete te, am i right in thinking the roomster lock modules are the same as the mk1 Octy etc? if Pete says i am, @PizzaSoft , ill post a link to my instructions on how to gently break into the lock mechanism and release the deadbolt

use an open handed strike with the heel of your palm. gets a nice thump.

thats fair.. i was just reminded by Ootohere's mention of living near quarry of a funny dust related anecdote. ive read the post linked above, and acxording to that youre vehicle in a dusty region is every 120,000km. but given you have exceptionally low mileage at 22,000km your question is does general age come into play aswell. honestly the only way to answer that is open it up and check the belt condition. but if going to that effort, may as well throw on the new one anyway..

My dad bought a freelander 2 sport about 20 yrs ago. heaviest clutch pedal ive ever experienced, but thats a different story. he dropped it to his mechanic for a service one day and to get the front end suspension checked as was a bit knocky. mechanic told him later he nearly died under the car. taking off the aluminium engine undertray, he was holding it up with one hand while undoing the bolts. when he got about 3/4 of them off, the tray just dropped like a rock, barely missed his head, bent alonlong the last line of bolts. the previous owner had worked in a quarry, and there was a 2in thick layer of hardened, compacted grit, dust and gravel stuck to the top of tray.

hi Ahmed. wht Ootohere means is your region of the world - mid east - is more dust prone due to average climate in vehicle manufacturers' definitions than, say, where I am - Ireland - where we get rained on 352 days of the year, and saharan sand storm / dusty winds rarely land here meaning we are a less dusty, mucky and rust prone part of the world..

Hi markyp27, welcome to the forum, youve already had a look so good stuff. the beat place to post the niggles are in the octy 3 sub section. lads there will help you out. if knocking off the aircon drop the revs then its load related, or if the fans are running on after shutting down alot it could be the dpf struggling to complete a regen. my moneys on the load though i wouldnt worry about it too much. the heat weve been having aircon is needing to work alot harder anyway, so gonna put more draw on the system. if its not just the aircon causing the idle speed increase, check how the battery charge is and how its doing while the alternator is engaged.
