  1. problem with using tiger seal / tec7 etc is - you will never get the scuttle out again without smashing it. do you have any pics? it might be possible to get some thing made to fill the channel and let you reclip it. (3d printers to the replicate the original is what im thinking)
  2. @jars @skomaz tha ks for asking and answering before i had to ask. it was new i formation for me too!!
  3. the Polish mechanic i sold mine to for scrap sent the block to poland to get it reconditioned, because noone here doing them would do one that the block side bearing had failed on rather than the piston side. when he got back and rebuilt it it was probably the most perfect 2.0cdti in Ireland. i still didnt want the car back though when i found the second key after about 2 months i called up to him and he had my 2009 hatch sitting there, without the engine back in it yet, and a 2011 estate parked beside it with the same problem... i told him take my engine, alloys, leather interior and gearbox/clutch etc and put it into the estate to make 1 better car and set fire to the remains of mine... one of the rear shocks had started leaking on his compound while it was parked up aswell....
  4. back to from whence it came and start looking for money back. the HG didnt fail on the drive home, that was sold with the fault, no way it wasnt known about...
  5. yup... i had one, a diesel... it ate its own big end block bearings. the radiator sprung a leak. the egr may have had a problem (never got to look at it properly), the alarm developed a fault, the boost actuator solenoid stopped working intermittently, the aux belt tensioner failed, the dmf started to self destruct.... all with less than 130k miles on it.
  6. i gave the initial post a love it for a couple of reasons- admitting youre terrified and have had tears is healthy and yet not done by men in general even less so spoken about, the "brave face" being the norm. as such i commend that open honesty even among relative strangers. weirdly the surgical decision is great - they are pre planning your future care by avoiding a more strenuous procedure in the future when you might not be as physically able to take that strain, instead setting up a much less demanding future. also, the fact they are doing this preplaning means they clearly have great confidence in the surgery going well, you being physically able for it, and that the long term prognosis is "this lads gonna be around long enough to need a turbo upgrade in a few years so lets do the pipework now". yes it will mean more work down time, but the benefits of being then able to work more effectively and potentially for a longer time.... thats worth the few days of fear.
  7. also started looking at trail running shoes last week. had narrowed it down to 2 pairs, so stopped into sports direct in cork on my lunch break today. Salomon speedcross vario 2 and asics trail scout 2 i went with - trail scouts. the salomons were lovely, snug fit, look brilliant. but.... the flap of material that the bottom lace loop is on came up over my big toe in just the wrong place and when i started walking around it was a bit sore. i dunno if anyone saw me jumping around the shop testing the heel strike cushioning.. imo a good idea they should bring into shoe shops is a treadmill so you could jump on see how they feel when moving properly. esp for sports runners..
  8. well the last few weeks have been a bit odd. too late at to get out for q run or the weathers been ****e. then a week and a half of night shifts. but, i did get my first proper 2 plus hrs cycle last thursday completely guilt free legs were a bit jellied after that. but kharma being what it is... spud sr picked up a stomach bug that caused to destroy his bed on friday evening, so that wrote off the night... so, i got out last night at 9pm (still a bit of light) and set off up the hill on foot. twas rough given it had been a good 2 weeks since i was out last. but, i made it to the cross, then on to the top of the hill behind it - my second phase target achievement point when i started the rough cycling last summer. then descended a slightly longer way to stretch it out and my phone battery died before i was finished! luckily strava recovered most of it when i turned it back on, so it wasnt all lost. might get lucky later on and get another hoofer done. earlier though, 9pm is too feckin late to be going on an hour plus run..
  9. i dunno about a mondeo but i got bored while on the phone outsude my car today at work so tried it.. can confirm - 2013 mk2 octavia diesel - this doesnt work
  10. worth remembering that carparts4less and exp are the same company... so not surprised neither could tell you..
  11. our green paety minister for transport suggested we "slow down" "avoid 1 journey a week" among other things to cope with thw fuel crisis. fine suggestions in theory but as he is also a stumbling dope of a man (referred to russia as "the USSR, eh i mean Soviet Un... eheheh russia" in an interview) noone take him seriously. as the dept responsible for providing public funding for public transport projects he is signing off on way more money for me to spend in work though so i think hes great....
  12. actually, june isnt that far away 😳
  13. and the woods.. into the trees... only 4.5k to go from Sir Thomas's Bridge, up the Blueway
  14. todays guilt free pedal.... it qas tough, a fair bit of get off and push on the really steep inclines... but so worth it.. im not inserting all the pics below... couple of the better ones though.. so after the "easy" bit up to the cross... knockindotha and long hill ahead.. stop time at the back of longhill.. time to push... lagnafrankee weeeeeeeeeeeeee down we go. view back across from gurteen to the hills i went across then into the woods...
  15. as Pete said, pop the original bulb types back in. putting leds into a headlight unit not designed for the way the light is delivered (multiple sources instead of one centred halogen point) causes the light to be reflected out badly, causing scatter - so poorly lit areas of road for you the driver, and also glare for on coming drivers. i could explain the sciency bit about parabolas and focal points but im pretty sure its been covered 100+ times previously
  16. mmm. .... not much hunting when they just run out in front of you... Am i right in my visual thinking that there are 3 radiators up front? (i have aircon) or are they combined into 1? can o ly see 1 part number sticker.
  17. well, i mentioned this over in a different section yesterday. Hit a fox at 65mph on the way to work Wednesday night. initial check - cracked the bottom of the bumper and drove the grille into void ahead of the radiators. just got to go do a bit of a deeper inspection... i could here a bit of rubbing going over a couple of speed bumps last night on the way to work.. undertray will rub when its ripped off on one side alright.. yup, grille is shattered.. eh... that metal bit at the bottom should be straight.. and that rad isnt curved like that ex factory... so a little bit of pulling and twisting, got the bumper pulled back into line. and managed to line the grille up reasonably well for now. so...i need... a scrappy sourced brilliant silver bumper (to avoid spraying. ) a set of radiators, the front one is warped, second one probably is too. no fluids leaking though at least. and a new lower grill (might get lucky with the bumper...) and i need to see better how the undertray is looking couple of the screw point are definitely ripped out.. at least Basil shouldnt have suffered much.. i hope..
  18. check the connector blocks where the cable passes from the car body to the hatch. pretty sure its tucked under the headlining. also check the cables for wear and tear inside the bellows. good chance either the connector has water corrosion or theres a broken/shorted wire in the loom. happens with drivers door cable bellows alot too.
  19. the fact they are locking and then unlocking, id wager its the microswitches too. can vouch the chinese ebay specials are fine. used one on my old mk1 and it worked flawlessly for the 2yrs i still had the car after fitting it.
  20. unfortunately you are in the "low budget, limited options, anyhring could happen" category on this purchase. i know we discussed that vrs in the mk1 section the other, didnt rwalise there was a second conversation going on about it. reality is any car you pick up in this price range could be an epic disaster waiting to happen or a work horse that plods on for thousands of hassle free miles. everything is going to have little niggly rattles, and wear and tear things to be dealt with or lived with. the fun part is not knowing for sure which you'll get.... like a pack of match attacks cards
  21. if thats the only time it throws a tantrum hes a lucky man
  22. fuel consumption varies on how heavy your right foot is too though, dont drive everywhere like your heads on fire and you may keep sonething reasonable on your average. you can hear some problems alright, not everything, but make sure to get "in cabin" video ideally on the move too they can legally and safely record that and external/ under bonnet too.
  23. i think they ran out of mk1 shells to use also, they had released the facelifted version of the mk2 in 09 (iirc) so it was now 2 models old. they had to stop, and the mk3 was probably in the pipeline for factory retooling etc...
  24. ask him for a couple of videos of it running too...
