  1. @Breezy_Pete Nail on head. You are totally totally correct as usual, i do not know. But then if it was as simple as use this oil in the older engines from 6 years plus ago and use less fuel would people not now being doing this for the environment. The OP can try and see if using the supposedly not back compatible oil will reduce the fuel used. Also in the real world and the ambient temperatures if emissions are reduced. & if the oil does not require topping up more often.
  2. & now i have all this in front of me and no need to put a finger to the screen to the left as changing anything to see is on the wheel, stalk or i-drive shifter or switches below the centre screen. There is even a heads up display which i have disabled. I drove the new Countryman with just the centre display and really disliked not have the speed in front of me.
  3. It is no better option for your 1.4 TSI. 0w 30 FS III will be perfectly fine. You will not reduce emissions with 0w 20 FS IV or fuel consuption. If doing fixed servicing oil and filter i would use the 5w 40 FS so not long life oil in a 1.4 TSI or a 1.4 TSI ACT. Were the spark plugs replaced at 40,000 miles or 4 years. Is the air filter nice and clean. That will do more for good running in city and short runs than the oil that was introduced to suit VW getting the figures needed for the WLTP certification which came after your was built and they stopped using that engine and went 1.5 TSI ACT. (and coc-ked that up for a while.)
  4. Welcome to the forum. You were speaking to someone that thought 2020 for VW508 00 / 509 00 that likely was not with a Dealership back in 2018. or really learns from the person they hear tell other customers the wrong information. VW 502 00 can be used for fixed service regimes with a TSI. But many dealers stopped stocking or using it because the would use VW504 00 / 507 00 for fixed or Variable. Used to be commonly 5w 30 FS III and now often 0w 30 FS III. (When not ones needing or recommended to VW508 00 / 509 00, 0w 20 FS IV. & Some are using 0w 30 FS III instead. or were ) @silver1011can keep you right.
  5. Welcome to the forum. We await someone with one and that is not Mutt & Jeff to tell us about theirs.
  6. 'Fleet News' today. An article on whoever it is wanting Fleet Managers to seriously consider Tesla Servicing as cars need Serviced & Maintained and Inspections even if Tesla says not required. That will be a stitch in time then. Catch faults or issues, be aware, have parts available, keep vehicles on the road, save down time. Also the Service & Maintenance Operators need the work. These are Leasing and Finance and all sorts of set ups that BEV,s are messing up....
  7. @Graham Butcher 2 or 3% away from 100% uploaded to the car i take it. Or is it downloaded. (They will have been checking Radio Stations and Sat Nav no doubt for Sales Data for 'Customer Satisfaction' and the Sales / Marketing. They manage to do that OK. But that is Service Desk people crap like brakes 80% worn as far as software updates. Arnold Clark have a Multi Million EV facility in Glasgow with 'Genius' employees as the advertise. Then the Call Centre employee booking an EV in for a Service offers an OFFER price on Fuel Treatments. The Manager at Arnold Clarks Service Centre is not sure if the Corsa Electric Courtesy cars are Automatics and the Glasgow Service Booking staff say Arnold Clark has no Automatic Courtesy cars. Not knowing that Dundee Service Centre had. But then they had not when they had outstanding Recall Actions...
  8. @Lady Elanore Like techs getting locked out of Stellantis EV,s. the Peugeot being a Stallantis PHEV. Not enough Broadband width i was told to complete software updates. Get to 97% and freezing.... Like the carry on there was with my Corsa Electric that i knew about from others experiences and i asked about and the clueless Service Staff know nothing. Par for course. They did not even know their own courtesy cars had outstanding Recall Actions because the people in the workshop could not do the required actions. Hence a tech in on a Sunday to do them when the building is closed. Maybe the IT savvy or Techs can comment on that.
  9. There are plenty decade and a half old + Skoda that have had the same and bottom of their doors is not a rust issue. There are maintenance guides on how the drain holes should be cleaned out periodically, but like sun roof maintenance that is unlikely to happen as Skoda Main Dealers, not even with Used Car pre sales prep, even though A FULL DEALER MAIN SERVICING History might be advertised or Rigorous Inspections. Many things do not happen. Just like Body Inspections for the Corrosion Warranty do not and are not a T&C in the Warranty, but if you have a corrosion claim Skoda / VW UK says no record of having been done, even Approved Used Cars with a FMDSH.
  10. At some point each model section of this forum has similar posts. Most common Fabia Mk2. But it can be any model or generation of model. Kamiq, Scala continue the trend with new ones but it can be a Karoq, or as here Octavia. Maybe even Kodiaq and eventually Enyaqs. Skoda Designers and Engineers are likely right now not addressing the characteristic for the Elroq or Epiq. 'Simply Clever', just not Vorsprung durch technik!
  11. Customers & Owners should not need to pay more and Void a Warranty or Extended Warranty with non-factory approved Software. VW Group that had to do Recalls and apply software updates that are just so so should be called out by the Motoring Press / Journalists. Actually by the DfT / DVSA in the UK as well. If everyone was not so much in VW,s pocket, like Haymarket Media Group or other publishers.
  12. ^^^^ Sorry linked the wrong vid. But here was the one i meant to. Lets hope Volvo are not manufacturing cars with the issue Alfa,s of old had. (Lots of cars have missed top / colour paint coats though where not really seen. eg Skoda.)
  13. @AGFalco might be the one to be able to advise.
  14. Which they are, The Twin Dry Clutch or Single Dry. Citig has the ASG. VW Group show the DSG,s as S-A / Semi-automated. There are s-tronic Audi,s that had CVT, there are 7 Speed Twin Dry and 6 or 7 speed wet and actual Automatic Audi,s. (VW Group 1.4 tsi,s in other world regions with 8 speed TC Automatics.) Manual Hand Brake. Then that bottom vid. Manual Parking brake / Hand Brake. (A e-Brake surely is a finger brake is ir not?) The big differences, important things now. Tech moves on. If no Hand Brake / Parking brake, Manual, then e-Brake / Parking brake, then Auto Hold, enabled or not enabled. Foot off brake pedal once Auto Hold enabled, as ling as Auto Hold has not been turned off. Then Stop / Start Enabled or not enabled. Switched off. As to EV,s. Not all have e-Brakes that Automatically come on, or have Autohold. EDIT. PS Then those that have 'Coasting function' might have it enabled, or possible not. Watch VW Vids on that. Then 1.5 TSI ACT,s. cylinder deactivation. ECO, Coasting, Autohold or no autohold. DQ200,s all Dry Twin clutch DSG,s but not all models of Skoda have the same choice maybe of 'modes'. Then there are differences away from a Fabia with Wet Clutch DSG,s & Modes. 6 or 7 speed wet clutch, nearly all now with e-Brakes. 1.0 TSI, Mild Hybrids a 7 speed DQ200-e. 1.5 TSI PHEV,s a 6 speed wet Clutch DQ400-e.
  15. Skoda had this out to Skoda Dealership employees to have them explain Euro 6 1.2 TSI,s running rough on start up was / is perfectly normal and OK. Odd though only some run like sh!te. The ones that are smooth must be faulty. Any old guff to suit all old buyer, driver, customer. Never accept that they had to manipulate testing, an with 1.5 TSI ACT to get the WLTP results as they were failing as they were pre WLTP engine management yet those vehicles ran fine.
  16. & what happened was that the WLPT was coming, VW Group could not Fix / CHEAT / Manipulate testing as they had, the 1.5 TSI ACT,s could not get the scores on the doors that had before when being tested for the WLTP so VW Group manipulated the Engine Management / Mapping for the certification and any possible testing when the cars arrived in countries after being IMPORTED. UK being one place where random checks were being done. The Manipulated the cars to sit testing and stuff they might run like sh!te. And many did. The fix had to be as done and not require new testing. No more Das Auto, just supposedly honesty. Kidology more like. ........... There were / are Euro 6 1.2 TSI,s that are rough as boars sh!t sometimes on start up. Skoda Dealership employees were schooled on explain to owners that Running like crap for a while is perfectly OK. They all do that, except those that do not.
  17. Looking forward to some interesting runs this summer and longish trips in Scotland and North of England with the MINI. I know now just how it behaves for efficiency in colder weather and how to hypermile is if needs must. If i can get an average above 4 miles a kWh on good driving fun roads that will do. The Maxxis Premitra AP3 All-Season tyres have been great. 195/55 R 16 instead of the OEM this model had of 205/45 R 17 Goodyear Eagle F1 (almost no treads or grip / traction), then the same size Vredstein Quatrac Pro i fitted, So sure footed in the most torrential rain and flooding roads including the motorway and dual carriageways. Comfortable as well. I have the tyres up higher in pressure just to see if grip is ok, traction and braking and they are all good. The efficiency i am getting is better now the weather is warmer but on the same trips at the same temps as August, September, October i am getting 3.7 miles a KWh on the Motorway rather than as it was under 3.5 and usually 3.1. I am seeing over 4 miles a kWh and sometimes averaging 5 miles. Given that the Useable Battery is really as near as damn it 30 kWh that is OK for 110 miles and expect to need to get on a charger in 10-15 miles going City to City in Scotland, Or Park & Ride, Charging Hub to Charging Hub. Counting on single Rapid chargers is too dodgy. Edinburgh City Council Chargers are pretty hopeless, or just CPS and who is maintaining them can be a problem. Now when there i am splashing the cash, get charged on a Rapid and get moving or know i am fully charged to go where ever. I was surprised staying at a Premier Inn to see there was a Genie Point. The receptionist said they had 3 chargers. I never bothered explaining there was 1. It has a CCS, ChAdeMO and a AC but that might be good for charging 2 cars max. 75 pence a kWh. But right next there is a McD,s and a BP filling station with BP Pulse so i used that. (I have subscription & oddly sometimes my account seems to not be getting charged for charging, but then sometimes the BP Pulse chargers at various locations are just not starting. The amount of MFG chargers around is making getting on chargers around Edinburgh pretty easy but expensive, and then my default is get to a EvYve. Or now if near and need charged a Tesla Super Charger hub with Tesla non Tesla. So warmer weather and tyres and getting to know when just to go into Cruise Control and put the mode to Green or Green + is helping the range and i expect will more as the weather warms through the summer. I am interested where the sweet spot will be for efficiency, i expect it to be 16*oC to near 20*oC ambient. Sun roof open and AC off maybe 16-18 *oC setting on the heating. Driving on Mid mode in town for the lighter steering but i am often in sport to get a shift on at junctions, roundabouts, overtaking. Mid, Green & Green + has it feel like the brakes are on. High regen is just horrible IMO. ............. Downhill 1 mile to the park. 8*oC. Depending on temperature it can show up to 9 miles a kWh, then when back up to home still over 5 miles.
  18. What did it used to do when you started it pre service, or when did you first notice this high rpm behaviour? Was this how it became 5,000 miles ago following the service? Euro 5 1.2 TSI. Normal is starting at about 1,100 rpm and within about 40 seconds dropping to 800-850 rpm if the AC is not on. So not 1,000 rpm. Regardless of ambient temp. Look at the air filter and see if it is still clean and dry. Was it you that changed the spark plugs and air filter? EDIT. Others here with a 1.2 TSI might look when they start there car today and the rev counter and see what they get for the first minute when starting. Unlock the drivers door and the fuel pump primes before the key is in the ingnition. Key in and maybe Needle Sweep. Then when starting what RPM, then what within a minute.? Probable their wiper arms will be corroded like those @Gabercrombie has in the picture.
  19. Anyone tarting up a car can buy the badges, grills, trim and all the bits and pieces. There was a Briskoda member with a Fabia Mk2 estate elegance diesel turned into a Mk2 vRS petrol look alike with the correct exterior and interior. Same with Monte Carlos. A Crash damaged non Monte Carlo repaired and fitted with the correct Monte Carlo Trim & body trims, shiny black plastic arches and badges. Done by a member who is Body repairer / painter for his daughter. In my young days a worked in a place where we changed Ford Taxis to Ford Ghia Models for resale. I did trim, wheels, paint etc not mileometers. So not common but an accident damaged car which has not had a claim on the insurance might be repaired and if doing one and sourcing parts it is as well to source parts for a more desirable model sometimes. Crooks / Professional crooks do it simply, steal a model and break it and use those parts to rebuild the damaged vehicle. Or the dead easy way, clone the stolen one. Should be easy to spot, part codes, window / glass codes for dates etc. Funnily lots float about on roads for years.
  20. A different car but i had a 2016 2.0TDI SCR DSG and after a few AdBlue fills it started just sipping the Adblue had a increased range on Adblue and started showing a Clogged DPF light rather easily. But really only with a few days of sort runs in town. Cold Start short runs, not regens just clogged filter. Started off just needing an 8 mile run to turn it off and eventually got to 20 miles and 20 +. Last of the VW / Skoda / SEAT / Audi Defeat Device cheaters. Early Euro 6 and they still had tricks. Great Fuel Consumption on runs and maybe less Adblue use over time when maybe more was needed. These were Full with AdBlue and someplace i have it with 8,500 miles range by the time it was near 30,000 miles. & taking a long time / miles to drop by each 500 miles, about 800 miles or so.
  21. Is there no Menu choice for, Just Drivers door, or Driver and others and not hatch, or unlock all doors?
  22. Sounds like a good change made by Skoda as far as i am concerned. If i park when rainy, snowy etc and then get back to the car missing seeing the Parking Ticket or note giving me abuse for taking their parking spot i do not want the wipers starting. Or if there is maybe sand blown on the glass.
  23. Great protection from crumple zones, air bags. Not sure with the Octavia about the automatic braking once a vehicle does hit or is hit by something and airbags activate but i am pretty sure it has that. I take for granted that modern Skoda,s have it.
  24. Let,s hope Politicians, Government and Government Agencies and Local Authorities, regulators and the likes are learning from these incidents.
