Estate 4x4 in trims other than VRS?
@nickcollYour experience and knowledge of your car and your thoughts on tyres and wheels are interesting, but really with the correct tyres for the cars use wider does not have to be inferior to narrower for grip. Proper tread, proper compound and correct pressures and they can work in wet, dry, cold or snow, maybe just not good for every road or weather condition. Really wider tyres / tread on the road surface do not make cars ditch finders.

@nickcoll It might be an idea to say what country you are looking at getting the Mk4 Octavia with AWD in.

What should a 100,000 miles VRS (in 3 years) have replaced
The thing is that if someone bought a new car and buys the Extended Warranty for 5 years / 100,000 miles it is rather common to get shot at the 100,000 miles or maybe 3 years if that comes up about the same time. 36172_SKODA_Approved_Used_Warranty_Dec20_SINGLES.pdf

How did cars end up with so much tech fitted?
I was driving a Volvo when i first got it and everything went blank on the dash and i could not figure what was wrong so pulled over and stopped and put up my sunglasses and then everything was showing again. A couple of times of glasses on, glasses off and i realised it must be the lenses that was the issue....

EV sub £30k comparison group tests.
^^^ Love it, the chunky monkey! Who do Renault think they are, VW? Teasing with images years ahead of ever actually producing and selling them! PS The more i look the more that is the best looking EV i have ever seen, even more so than the Concept Honda-e's. Obviously the sills will just never be like that.... Unless they retract in as the doors are opened...

Vw Polo 2021/2022 spied
I have one sitting ready to put together sometime. The Corsa is as much fun and as good if not better in the snow and can wade through floods. If they do a Fabia EV that would be great as a bit easier in and out, and the ability to wear a top hat.

It is Simply Clever how they use the stuck on Tornado Line and lower styling features that are in the online tease images for a Skoda Fabia & Scala to disguise the car from VW.

How good is the Octavia 1.0 TSI?
@Alecs If you are going to quote 0-100 kph, then that is the same as the 0-62 mph times. There is a few UK Road testers that go on about 0-60 times and get them wrong. It is amazing how some cars need around half a second more to get to 62 than to 60 mph.

What should a 100,000 miles VRS (in 3 years) have replaced
@Westbury63Funny you should post that, as my partner just bought one yesterday to move logs. When i asked how much it was & she said 18,000 Forint. Thankfully just about £45. More thankfully i am not there to be moving and stacking them. PS If the Dealership in the thread was to be laundering money they would not be the only ones in the UK doing that. Plenty of the UK's biggest Motor Groups became the size they have doing exactly that. It even got some founders on the Queens Honours list.

What should a 100,000 miles VRS (in 3 years) have replaced
They have some amazing stock of Super Cars and an Alfa Romeo that i would love to buy. At the moment i am only £69,000 short of the Asking Price. I wonder if they accept Magic Beans as a form of payment.

What should a 100,000 miles VRS (in 3 years) have replaced
The Oil & Filter and Sump plug 5 times now at least. The Air Filter should have been replaced, maybe twice at 40,000 mile intervals rather than @ 4 years. Or at least looked at. The Pollen / Cabin Filter. The Spark Plugs. The Brake Fluid @ 3 years. The tyres might well have been changed, maybe more than once. Maybe the driver never used the brakes much so the pads have not been changed, and maybe they were used enough that the discs are not red with rust.

What engines to avoid? (Fabia II/III)?
A 110ps 1.2 or 1.0 TSI DSG will behave just as your Mk2 vRS 1.4 TSI Twincharger did but just with less power. It is the same DQ200 DSG as your 2010-2012 (then from 2012-2014 after Global Recall excluding Europe) had but with less possible problems. The newest 1.0 TSI's will have a GPF. I think you will like i Suzuki Swift and @skomazmight see this and help you on those. They do not have VW Group engines.

Horn is embarrassing
@HareLaw Have you stood at the roadside and had someone toot your horn so that you know what it sounds like to others? ? Who are you tooting your horn at because really many other motorists could not care less about another drivers horn. It is not nice when an aggressive horn is tooted at pedestrians or cyclists that make them jump rather than just letting them know you are there.

Skoda Fabia MKII 2010 Wet footwell behind driver
@mojoman Welcome to the forum. ? Did you see on here that it is a common issue? It is with Mk1's as far as i know, not with Mk2's. Common is the rear windows dropping a little bit. Also water in the spare tyres well. That is via the rear lights, and sometimes the re\r flaps that are hidden by the bumper. Common at the front is the driver or passenger leaning on the seal at the top of the door and bending it and it not sealing well to the roof.

oil service message - cheapest service option?
I would recon that there was some messing up when the Service Indicator was reset at the PDI. Very strange that 'Oil Service' message never appeared after a year if the car was on Fixed Servicing. The car maybe is 'Simply Clever' and decided with such low miles and near its 2nd birthday the oil could do with changing. ? Does the car also show if you check that an 'Inspection Service' is due in June? so in 5 months time. If you could get away with just an Oil & Filter Service and look see and report and a Free Brake Inspection before the car is returned then fine.

Kodiaq RS DPF Regeneration
@linniWhen i had a Jupiter 5 Sidecar outfit, (basically a Jawa 350) it came with a translated to English Owners / Operators manual and extra parts including carb jets for using in very low temperatures. It had a table showing the correct mix to use at different temps of Generator Oil / Transformer oil and aviation fuel. What amazed me was that the USSR could not produce round ball bearings. It was brilliant in a Scottish winter, sadly it went on fire one fine summers day. Likely an issue with the Oil filler air filter tray and me never having changed what was in there. It was very much like this. Started dead easily at low temps.

Winter driving, a few observations.
There is another wee period of snow and wintry conditions coming in the next 48 hours for some that have not already had much in Scotland. Tier 4 lock down Mainland Scotland's Central Belt will likely be in a bit of pandemonium as people ignore warning if there are any to not travel unless essential and if you do be prepared.

@Diljit If the front screen washers are not powerful enough get them uprated so that you can wash tailgaters front screen and have their auto wiper activating. If you have them just right you might be able to get those in convertibles to get the idea they are too close when in nose to tail slow traffic.

Kodiaq RS DPF Regeneration
The Internal Engine oils we are talking about efficient operating temp is in the 90's*oC. Oil is a Coolant as well as a lubricant. Which is why the Coolant System so the / Anti Freeze / Summer Coolant / Rust Inhibitor is got to around 90*oC and kept there with the radiator and fans so that when the Oil temp goes into the low 100's*oC it gets brought back down by the coolant system. The Engines in Europe and other world regions where the WLTP might apply are coming from VW Group factories with VW508 / 509, so 0w 20 FS IV.

A grown up will be along to help. I never do it myself as there are plenty children or others with the gear and more than an idea that will do it for me. Look for the Australian Setting if you want your dash coded for large MPH, if you want and do not already have that.

You can change the settings on your UK car to have the rear sidelights on with the DRL's, if you can not do it get someone who can to do it.

@Diljit You can have the coding done to have the rear Side Lights (Position lights) on with the Front Daytime / Daylight running lights. (No special bulbs to the rear.) Or you could just turn on the Side lights & Dipped Headlights and have lights to the front and rear.
