  1. There are a fair number of sceptics on that boating forum, so it may be that this is all made up - like VW's EA189 "Clean Diesel", but I'm going to keep an open mind for now.
  2. All these are in the engine bay fusebox. Strip fuse no.5 - 40 amp rated Blade fuse no. 8 - 30 amp Blade fuse no. 11 - 5 amp The last two are under a clip-on cover to the right of the strip fuses, you'll see wiring to them, but not the fuses themselves 'til you unclip that cover.
  3. Which fuses have you checked? I'll just look up which are the right ones on your car.
  4. Massive thread on a boating forum from a year ago here: ALFADAN 654hp outboards - Page 8 - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum CEO 'wades' in...
  5. That Infiniti/Nissan solution looks expensive, but hats off to whoever imagined that mechanism.
  6. Thanks, hadn't come across that. I guess the one I've linked must be a little different, but we'll have to wait and see.
  7. That had never occurred to me actually. My experience of the standalone ones in houses is that they struggle to do much, but a car is a much smaller volume usually. Quite power hungry though, so if all-electric it might need to be wired in as opposed to plugged into a lighter socket. See if the radiator fan(s) come on shortly after asking for cooling.

  9. If inline fours can be made better in the meantime, for those that opt for such things, we should do it though, right?
  10. Then checking that the fans themselves work at low speed is as simple as switching on the A/C, turning the dial to cold and waiting for a short while to see what happens under the bonnet. You almost certainly could have fixed the leaky thermoswitch by tightening it up a touch, but never mind. A/C cars' thermoswitches don't carry the fan motor currents, just the relay coil currents, so virtually never fail. The wiring to them can be vulnerable though, as it's very thin.
  11. That's a good diagram! Yes you could. The relay and its fuse for the low speed action won't quite be rated to run main fan at high speed and other fan at low, but I bet it'll work OK in the short term. The circuit for the fans is like this:
  12. Bad info in the context of Mk1 Fabia. The fans are wired in parallel, as said earlier.
  13. I personally think that ban may not be able to happen as early as hoped, but yes.
  14. YouTube's recommendation algorithm offered me this yesterday, just finished watching it. Quite interesting throughout, I thought. REVOLUTIONARY new INLINE 4 - ALFADAN BIG BLOCK i4 ENGINE - YouTube Some subsequent vids by The Workshop suggest/claim that it's just a money making scam, fairly convincingly: NOTE: NSFW/family - sweary ALFADAN - Re-inventing the CON rod? - YouTube ALFADAN rhymes 'with a SCAM'? - YouTube
  15. Same shields fitted for 239, 256 and 288mm brakes.
  16. Take the car for a 15-minute plus drive on a hot day and then park up with engine idling. If the thermoswitch (and fans) are working the fan(s) will come on at low speed shortly after, probably only for a short time though. Does the car have A/C?
  17. The 6R0615311 part was superseded by the 6R0615311A part in 2010. https://oemwolf.com/oem-parts/6r0615311.html#replacements Same for the other side (312-312A) but a month later, curiously! Buy 6R0615312 cover plate for brake disc Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen genuine OEM part (oemwolf.com) So correct.
  18. Both fans should switch over to full speed if refrigerant pressure gets too high with just the small fan running at low speed, see if this happens after a while at a standstill. If it doesn't, check the strip fuses above battery. You can watch refrigerant pressure in one of the HVAC measuring blocks. 9 bar threshold for low speed fans, 16 bar for full speed, from memory. Catch you tomorrow.
  19. Yes, wired in parallel.
  20. Looks like main fan has suffered low speed failure. Very common. Either replace or repair with external power resistor. Guide in the "Handy topics and guides" section.
  21. OK, so it sounds like all is well there. Confirm that you do get them coming on shortly after switching on A/C too, in case the G65 sensor isn't playing nicely.
  22. I can't remember, do you get the option to try both low and full speed?
  23. Yes, one of the output tests in the HVAC module I think.
