  1. No worries, just good to know what engine we're dealing with. I imagine there's going to be an EGR cooler on the back of the engine which might be another source of coolant/pressurised gas interchange, can sometimes bypass that by moving coolant hoses around to eliminate. Might also be a coolant based intercooler, which might be another non-HG gas entry spot. That would be just pressurised air as opposed to combustion product gases, so wouldn't trigger the chemical kit?
  2. Which engine is this? What year? The forum sub-section you're in and your profile info don't really match up, and it appears to be a diesel from the engine cover visible in that first pic.
  3. Ta. Your passenger side motor is part number 6R0959801P. I suspect, given the symptoms, that the relay on the little tiny circuit board inside it has developed worn/burnt contacts for the 'up' direction of motor rotation. New replacement of whole motor is >£200 from Skoda, so not recommended. I could replace the relay for you, but the cost of secondhand ones on ebay may be cheaper, e.g. this one, from a similar age same model: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314929997322 Obviously, 2nd hand ones may have similar or other issues, but I think this generation of motors is reasonably reliable compared to some. The other thing probably worth doing, if there's any crustiness to be found, is to give the outer seal at the bottom of the passenger window pane a good clean-up to reduce friction. Old toothbrush and warm water with a touch of washing up liquid will probably suffice.
  4. The fan control module only powers the radiator fan(s). The solenoid valve in the compressor is driven by the climatronic module. Wires sometimes break at a plug/socket intermediate connection in front of the gearbox.
  5. Got an M10 spline bit? If so, remove that seat for improved access.
  6. An adequate one is extremely cheap and widely available.
  7. Measure voltage at each end of the (empty) fuse socket with ignition switched on.
  8. ^ Should've waited a couple more months for the 20th anniversary of the posting! 😁
  9. So much to say about this, but not really finding the time to both do and write, but I am taking plenty of pics to allow a later catch-up. Lots of jobs planned for this weekend, brakes mostly but a few other bits. Got to get it driveable soon, since my partner is itching to test drive it. 😀 (And I need it to move a boat on trailer soon). One question for the 1.2TSI literate, at 158k miles, should I just assume that a recon turbo would be a good plan, or give it a chance first? Seems like a lot of oil coming from TB area... 10. Yep; especially if you know someone north of the border to make return postage a bunch easier. Will message you later.
  11. Funnily enough, I think that's the same colour as the Rescue Roomster. 🙂
  12. No probs: Roof color 0F Exterior color / Paint Code 0F / W5Q
  13. Can't see for dirt in my pic, but now that you mention it, these might have a tool recess within the head as well as the external 12-point.
  14. Look like these? 12-point bi-hex 9mm I expect, since they're M7 screws.
  15. Torx are a 6-point design Will try to look up what these are via parts catalogue.
  16. Can you let me know reg or VIN so I can research part numbers please?
  17. Last 6 tyres for 3 different cars that I've bought have been part worns. Mostly less than 3 years old and most looked barely driven on, with 7mm tread. Lots of cars getting scrapped just after new tyres were fitted, for reasons nothing to do with the tyres.
  18. You can possibly use the blanking plugs from an FSIII caliper, or otherwise improvise, but it's probably shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, at this point.
  19. Assuming the previous catalogue links are broken, here's a live one that shows all the parts of the 239mm FSII set-up: https://www.lllparts.co.uk/catalogs/skoda/CZ/FAB/453/6/615/615015
  20. Your front brake PR code is 1ZA. 312x25mm discs, caliper part numbers are 1K0615123E (left) and 1K0615124E (right), same as for 288 discs it seems.
