  1. I'll try cranking a bit before removing plugs to check compression. Ta.
  2. Got a call this afternoon from stranded partner. 05 Fabia (1.2 12V HTP, very low miles 2nd engine), won't start. Got her to check ignition coils' fuse, but that seemed OK. Has fuel in tank, tries to catch sometimes but never quite does. Handheld OBD scanner says no fault codes, she told me. Rush hour rescue drive... VCDS also sees no fault codes in engine ECU. Shows rpm when cranking, on tacho and vcds. Thought there was at least one spare coilpack in car, but no, a coilpack box with other spare sensors in. 🙁 Jumping around on its mounts when cranking, not looking good. About half a mile from a GSF, but bang on closing time when I decided to buy a coilpack, so a little further to ECP who did have one 10 mins before their closing. Tried in all 3 cylinders with no change. ☚ī¸ Coolant level spot on, oil at minimum; that's unusual, dunno when last checked. Fearing a chain issue here, will take compression tester to it first thing, and tools to examine chain timing via cam end covers. Anyone got any suggestions of other things to try, please? I'll look at the plugs prior to comp test.
  3. The MAF sensor should show a reduction in the flow of fresh air in proportion to how much EGR recirculation is commanded. If EGR is very blocked, like yours, then the expected change in MAF reading will not happen.
  4. I think the only sensible solution to the oil burning is to drop a replacement engine in, preferably one with low mileage and known condition. Much easier and cheaper than major work on that engine. But with the other problems as well, I think it should be heading toward the scrapyard.
  5. When ours was doing this a few years ago, it turned out to be a cracked solder joint on the circuit board within the passenger front lock module. You can often work out which lock has the problem by unlocking with remote, then opening a door. The one with a bad connection probably won't be recognised as having opened, and car will self-lock again with door wide open. 20200910_155143.mp4
  6. Hi @Harrystubbs , yes, still repairing. I'll send you a private message with contact info.
  7. How many miles have you done in those 6 weeks?
  8. 6Q0959843K Not handed, fits either side. 🙂
  9. ^ Have just replied to your email @16sam, apologies for the delay.
  10. Not enough to bother buying a new one, but probably worth trying to refit that one, it may just snap into place.
  11. Possibly item 10 here? Car Parts Catalog - LLLParts When was the car built?
  12. HI @jonny888, I'll be happy to fix that for you. I'll send you a private message in a sec, with contact info. 👍
  13. Look for the part number moulded into it somewhere.
  14. Try removing the red/green wire from the strip fuse and go for a careful test drive. Should get a warning light quite soon after starting to move, I think. Did you try driving with fuse 25 absent? (As opposed to just having ignition on or engine idling, stationary on driveway.)
  15. Look at strip fuse no.6 in the fuse tray above the battery. See if it looks newer than any of the others. That might indicate a repair to this common failure; which may have happened subsequently to someone masking the warning light. Not sure if there's a way to make all the lights come on in the cluster, if there is it will be from "output tests" in module 17, the instrument cluster. Possibly quite easy to remove and disassemble cluster enough to physically look. I had a Polo with no emissions warning light that turned out to have a bit of black tape stuffed down the hole that the LED sat below.
  16. No idea, sorry.
  17. Yes, if the brakes are as rum4mo described. Genuine part number for bearing was 6R0407621A, superseded by 6C0407621. You may or may not already be aware that this is a Gen2 type bearing that needs special tooling to fit. See e.g. GEN2 Wheel Bearing Removal Tools | 2nd Generation Just pressing the whole lot in by the hub face will likely result in failure and damage to the bearing.
  18. Your rear discs are 272x10mm, current part number 5Q0 615 601D, currently ÂŖ57.60 + VAT each at Skoda.
  19. Will look up later this evening for you.
  20. Dumb bstards if it's true. Seems even more likely to be discovered than VW's NOx emissions dodge.
  21. @Yety knowing what size your rear discs are is a good start. Either measure, or let me look up for you with reg or VIN. Debatable. A lot of recent Skoda models seem to have very poor quality rear discs from the factory, at least in terms of corrosion resistance.
  22. Was the replacement new, or second hand?
  23. Build date of current engine is the only relevant one. If the currently fitted Mann filter has given no trouble, then just buy another with same PN.
