Rob's Ur Quattro
Yes it can, but not necessarily. You can also get smooth wear on the inner edges from toe out, as well as from component failure (which Rob obviously doesn't have): Gaz

Rob's not attacking the corners hard enough 😁 Drive harder and chew up the outer edges to match the inners 👍 (Or mebbe check the toe-out too) G

Hello and welcome DDS Sounds like you're enjoying it. I've a pano roof, but don't tend to use it in hot weather, relying on the aircon instead to stop me from evaporating. Gaz

Turbo leaking oil at 28000 miles!!
Yes. Only you can decide what to do though. And you won't know unless you ask. A component, potentially non-moving, that should be keeping oil in, has failed. It's what's happened that's the key. If you want 'better than 50% chance', then maybe save yourself the trouble, but I'd want to know what was causing the issue. Taking TheClients point, what if it was a copper washer on a banjo bolt? (one hopes not and that your mechanic would simply fix it, but you get the point). There are plenty of turbo's available, with varying levels of warranty. As per TC, I'd take the service exchange route if it were me - but not before knowing exactly what the problem is, and then deciding next steps. Have you had any work done to the car that might dislodge anything turbo related? Gaz

Turbo leaking oil at 28000 miles!!
I don't agree Phil. I think you should push Skoda. Then decide if you want them to do it, or if it'll be more cost effective to use a good indy. If you look at what happened to me, it would have cost me £250. Having had the car remapped (after the warranty expired I might add) was my downfall, as Skoda UK used it as a get-out card (which of course it is). So long as you've not had anything done that would void the warranty, if I were you, I'd be pushing Skoda. I take John's point, turbo's let go, sh 1t happens. I had a B5 Passat that was at 275k and on it's original turbo when I sold it. There are plenty of tales of turbo's lasting a very long time, but there are also those of us who've experience the opposite from time to time. Googling IS20 Turbo longevity/lifespan brings up some very interesting results. Best o'luck with getting it fixed 👍 Gaz

Turbo leaking oil at 28000 miles!!
I can't really complain. I know the guys who worked on my car and the amount of effort and head scratching that went into fixing it. Another notch on my one-of-those-things post. Car was fine after and went like the clappers (circa 320bhp). So much so that I was hesitant right up to handing the keys over when I traded it in for the GTI. G

Advice re selling a 2007 Skoda - to MOT or not?
Hello Fabiafan6 The advisories might just still be advisories, and even if they're not, they're not unusual repairs. For the cost of a battery and MOT you'll know either way. It'll have more value with a year's ticket on it, and people still like Fabia's. Unless it's a pile of crap that no one would want, you could recoup the fairly minimal costs, and keep another Furby on the road. What model, spec and condition is it in? Gaz

Turbo leaking oil at 28000 miles!!
Mine was slightly more complicated. I argued with Skoda (local), that because of the time of year, I hadn't had the heating on for months, so it was quite likely (although impossible to prove) the coolant fault was there when the car had been in warranty. This was accepted, and I agreed to pay a £250 contribution towards repairs. The fault proved difficult to trace and diagnostics compounded the issue with several red herrings. Several items were replaced, but the fault was eventually found by a technician feeling a hose that should've been hot but was actually cold. In between this I'd collected the car awaiting a new part, but didn't make it home 🙁 The turbo had grenaded itself and there was some question as to whether it had taken the engine with it. All work done by a local Skoda main dealer, and 30+ hours labour overall. Skoda UK rejected any warranty or goodwill because of the TD1 Marker, and I was handed a £3,000 bill. The whole sorry tale: Gaz

Turbo leaking oil at 28000 miles!!
My 2015 vRS's turbo failed at 22,000 miles and three years old - six weeks or so out of warranty. It was owned by me from new. No contribution from Skoda due to a TD1 marker (Revo remap). To be fair, in my case, the turbo failing was caused by a fault on the cooling system. Gaz

Timing Belt problem - can't remove bolt
And I've a similar experience too. More odd is that both the local Skoda and VW dealerships are in the same franchise (as is Audi). Needing new rear discs while my vRS was in for other work, there was a two day delay on getting the discs. I pointed out to Skoda that VW had them in stock 150 yards away and offered to pick up and deliver. Skoda declined and I got the car back the same day, with new discs. The local independent I've used (BMW & VAG specialising) for a long time goes to VW when needed, not Skoda if they can help it. Gaz

End of the Fiesta
I agree. We had them as fleet cars when I worked in transport in the very early 1980's. At the time, people who got Chevette's instead felt quite cheated. Wifey had a 1.1L when we first met, then moved up to a 1.3S. Both great cars for what they were. We saw the 1.1 for a good 20+ years after we sold it. Gaz

Clutch problems at 30k miles
Don't think any of us 'you's' are trying to be unhelpful John. I'd like to know if the black marks will come off with a bit o'spit, or if it's physical damage from a sudden component failure, or something in between. Their competence and integrity is certainly in question given what's been said so far. Gaz

Clutch problems at 30k miles
And that's the point. One wonders how many 30k clutches, with normal wear and tear, have black marks on them. Think you're right to pass it on to someone who can confirm if it's not normal. My local VW highlighted two items of 'Urgent' work that needing doing to our Polo at its last MOT. Nothing is wrong and nothing needs doing. Trust them as far as you can throw them Gaz

Clutch problems at 30k miles
It'll be interesting to know what the overheating 'damage' is in reality. Signs that it might've got hot at some point, and nothing else, or is it a molten lump in the bottom of the bell housing? As others have said, not being able to test the clutch hydraulics without replacing the clutch is tripe. Sounds like the money printing machine being fired up to me. Gaz
